Thursday Night Open Thread: Texans at Eagles
The Texans are flying high after QB Rusty Smith helped them end their four game losing streak. The Eagles are coming off an ugly loss to the Bears. Can the Texans ride that momentum, or will the Eagles rebound? The odds have the Eagles favored by seven.
RB Arian Foster is worth the price of admission these days. But this game is definitely one for the mute button. Bonus reason to watch: CB Asante Samuel is out again this week, and it could turn into a shoot out on a clear December night.

I figure we want the Texans to win...
But is that even plausible given how poor their defense is? ;/

Dead Horse alert:
NFL network broadcasts suck. They think all the low camera angles are edgy and make us feel like we’re on the field, but instead it just looks like the footage we get from the AV camera guy standing on the sideline during a public access broadcast of high school games. The announcers suck. Theisman’s arrogant AND uninsightful to the point where it’s almost a super-power, and the play by play guy, while competent, lacks any sense of gravitas in either his word choice or his intonation.
It’s all just so ordinary, and occasionally amateurish, that it makes the game harder to watch. I quite literally have to remind myself I’m watching an NFL game every freaking week, and I barely even argue when my wife wants to turn on 30 Rock and The Office.

Including the game last week between Cincinnati and the Jets. So I get home after watching “Harry Potter”, and, surprise surprise, no NFL Network.
Would it kill those clueless morons at Dish Network to actually get me the same channels week in and week out?

by OBrienSchofieldismyHero on Dec 2, 2010 10:18 PM CST up reply actions
Yeah, just like they can dream, too.
But they already lost the head-to-head tiebreaker to Green Bay, having been swept (although they’ll never admit that). So that gives GB the edge if the Packers and Vikings end up tied. Also, division record might also come into play, especially if the Vikings lose at home to the Bears in a couple of weeks (that might be the only time with Favre at QB that’s I’ve supported the Vikings if Chicago and Green Bay are still neck-and-neck).
And then they have to fend off a likely wild-card (possibly two) from the NFC South, with Atlanta, Tampa Bay, and New Orleans (who also has head-to-head tiebreaker over the Vikings).
Can Minnesota make it to 9-7? It’s possible. Is it realistic, given their remaining schedule? Not really. Will they make the playoffs at 9-7? No.

Not only that,
But they completely refute the NFL’s claim that all penalties are called fairly. Do you remember that ridiculous overturned interception in the 2005 playoffs? Polamalu clearly intercepted the ball, started to run, dropped it, and fell on it. After review, it was overturned and called an incomplete pass.
There have been other incidents where Brady and Manning ask for a penalty and the official, even if he’s not looking at the play, says “Yep, since you saw it, it must have happened.” Though I must say Brady is worse than Manning is by far.
