Nick Collins a holdout?
Saw this today, looks like Collins maybe a holdout. I think he is an important part of that defense, I hope this won't be a big issue. I'm thinking he will get an extension. Thirteen interceptions in two years is good production, and he is only 26.
The article, taken from the Milwaukee Sentinel Journal and posted on Yahoo says this:
That is, he'll do it if the team doesn't come through with some kind of long-term deal and just extend him a restricted free agent tender.
Is there anyway this doesn't get done? I just don't see it.

Jeez, I hope not. We need to re-sign Collins to a long-term deal and honestly I don’t see why we haven’t yet. He deserves it as he’s had 2 good years now, and it’s pretty clear he can be a really good FS in this league.
i’ve been talking about this last week here. if the packers tag him, collins won’t receive the big signing bonus and the gauranteed money. hold-out coming soon.
the packers have to make their tender offers in 10 days or so, so we’ll have to wait and see.
shivers down my spine
starting at free safety derrick martin and starting at strong safety jarret bush. the horror, the horror!!!
Look beyond the INTs though...
He is a very good Safety, he gets some nice INTs but is he one of the best in the league…I don’t know that he’s there yet. I think he wants to be paid like he is though. That is probably where the problem lies.
You guys can always get Sharper again
looks like NO is letting him flutter as well.
It's a lot easier to love the Vikings when they win...
collins
i don’t think he deserves top 5 money, but the packers, like with clifton, backed themselvesinto this corner. there is no viable alternative on the roster to replace collins or clifton. no free agent options are better than those 2 and if tt thinks he can replace those 2 guys in this upcoming draft and have no drop-off, well i got some ocean front property to sell in north dakota.
Long-term deal limbo
With a possible lockout looming in 2011, and who knows what the CBA will look like in 2 years, I’d expect every team is a little nervous about long-term contracts. Not that they won’t happen, but there hasn’t been a rush of them recently either. I’m sure they want to keep Collins long-term, but the long-term contract marketplace is in a limbo at the moment. A lot of talk of franchise tags and tender offers, but no big signings.
Every year it's the same thing
With the exception of Greg Jennings, Thompson likes to play chicken with his players. It’s a bad reputation to have to work through, especially because Green Bay is not a “destination” market for most players. Collins should have been fairly and quietly handled last fall, but he wasn’t, and so now we have another threatened holdout, with everybody else in the league making notes about how hard it is to deal with the Packers.
You do realize WHY it wasn’t handled last year. New defensive scheme…player who did well in the old one. You don’t pay a HUGE contract to a guy if you don’t know how he’s going to do. I like how you ALWAYS automatically take the players side over Thompson. We have NO clue what Collins demands are. Maybe he’s asking to be the highest paid safety in the league…completely unreasonable. He may not be though…we don’t know but lets not just throw people under buses here.
The Packers are SO hard to deal with now huh? Jennings got a nice deal. Rodgers got a nice deal. Chillar was signed to a nice deal with little haggling. Those were just the recent ones…I can only think of a few that were that ugly. Its usually with players that feel they are the best who just AREN’T…or rookies. TT is a shrewd business man. He knows a LOT more about this than YOU do ktenreb…lets get that into your head before you continue pretending you know more. YOu are going off of a couple stories that have Collins whining and NOTHING from the Packers. We don’t know what is happening up there. I don’t see other Packers out there complaining about Packer management and how terrible they are to deal with. I don’t see former players speaking out against it…this is you continuing to posture about Thompson and how much you hate him. We get it you hate him but much of what you bring in here is purely speculation driven by your own hatred toward him.
Name me 5 better Free Safeties
Why shouldn’t he get paid like one of the top safeties? Polamalu is in his own category, but after that…guys like Reed, Dawkins, Sharper are at the end of their careers. Sanders is always hurt, Wilson is good but more of a hitter.
He’s not a one year wonder, he’s not one dimensional, he’s not a problem off the field…pay the man! I understand playing hardball with certain guys for good reasons but this one needs to get resolved properly.
Yeah, your right. It could be argued that aside from Polamalu and Reed, that Collins has been the next best FS in the league these past two years. I really wish we would just pay the guy a long term deal worth some money. He deserves it, and without him back there forget stopping any teams passing game.

Just pay the man the money
Give Nick Collins his money… He deserves it…. He’s a top 3 FS in the league. Come one TT, just pay the man. I’d like to see him for another 5-6 years.
I hope we sign him
Collins is an excellent safety. I hope he gets signed. Agents may be as responsible as TT. Who knows?
