Packers Sign Nick Collins and Charles Dillon

The Green Bay Packers signed two players: one is looking to reach his third straight Pro Bowl and the other will be lucky to reach the practice squad.

Why did they decide to sign WR Charles Dillion now? He was 6'0" 186 lbs. back at the 2008 NFL Combine, according to NFL Draft Scout, but apparently he's up to 200 lbs. as an Arena League player. He hasn't been on an NFL roster since August 2008. It will be surprising if he makes it past the April mini-camps.

Back to the real signing, FS Nick Collins signed his one-year tender contract. He really had no choice. Another team would have to surrender their 1st and 3rd round draft choices to sign him, and the going rate for a quality safety is only a 4th and 7th round pick, which is what the Cardinals had to trade for S Kerry Rhodes. No team was going to go up to a 1st and 3rd for Collins. Glad to have him back, but he can't be too happy with his options at this point.

psych !!!!!!!!!!!

exactly!

I saw the headline and thought he signed a real contract…that was a TEASE and I am NOT happy. Here I sit in Puerto Vallarta looking for an update from Packer land and I just get teased…

Charles Dillon ~ Washington State ~ KR ~ 40 for 835 yards... 20.87 yard ave...

Averaging 20.87 yards per return in college is probably why they took a chance… That would be my guess anyway!?

my guess as well, hopefully he pans out as a return guy, but more likely he is a JAG (just a guy), who will go to camp ,compete and then released .

TrevorR ~ If you're in Puerto Vallarta ~ You have to reserve your comments! lol

On vacation, business, or do ya live there? I’ll remember this year when Dillon rips off some great returns that you said that!! lol : ) Have a great day!

On vacation! Livin the good life for a week. Vacations change a little when you have a kid with you…no more nightlife. Still VERY good times though…

To be fair, there's a pretty large difference in quality between Collins and Rhodes

Certainly could’ve gotten a second rounder for him. It’ll be interesting to see if we can work out a long-term deal with him or just keep franchising him in the future.

I sure hope not Crab... Remember Kurt Warner came from the IOWA BARNSTORMERS in Arena Football!

Not saying Dillon will have a HOF return career… It just didn’t seem like Jordy was NOT comfortable back there… Didn’t get North & South very quick! I hope Dillon lights it up this year! Would be a great story for him & the Packers… ( & TT! : )

Great news

First I think it’s excellent that TT has lined up his first candidate for returner. My guess is he’ll add a late draft pick and they can compete with Blackmon. What is amazing is all of uninformed opinions about Dillon. No comments about how he looked on tape. No opinions based on watching him play in college. No one with information on why the Colts let him go last year. Just the certainty that he’s just a guy. What we actually know is that a group of professional talent appraisers think he’s worth a look. Sounds like a smart move to me, unless of course someone on this blog has some actual facts to contribute to the contrary.

Second, why the heartache over Collins? 1) He’s doing the stand up thing. (Actually Brandon he did have a choice about signing. See Daryn College for an existence proof.) 2) Collins’ agent is optimistic. 3) It’s obvious, even to us amateurs, that the Packers need him happy next year. This is a no-brainer that just needs some time to work out. All this negativity reminds me of the angst being vented when Clifton didn’t sign until a whole two days into free agency.

I, for one, am a happy clam hoping we can pull another Mathews type jump and grab our LT of the future next month.

@ 50 years and Counting:

I never got to see Dillon play in college… I don’t know why the Colts let him go… I also think it’s great that we have a potential Kick returner/Punt returner… & I HOPE he’s not just another guy!

Would love to hear your facts…???

Collins will get his deal… I’m confident!

I also defy you to find someone who has BEAT THE LT DRUM more than I… Ask anyone on here… Stroh, TrevorR, Jabooty, PackAllDay, hermitcrab…

I’m sorry if I seem perturbed… It just seems like your looking down your nose at us while you comment from on high… If I’m out of line I apologize… but, by looking down your nose at us and chastising us you haven’t really contributed much to this discussion either!

Sorry 'bout that

Your right. The tone was all wrong.

I enjoy this space because so much of the posting is fact based. Real data to chew on, not hot air. When Cliffy didn’t get signed early it seemed like some on this site started heading down the GBPG road and it worried me. The early posts on this blog were no better.

However, adding to the negativity is not constructive and I apologies for my inconsistency.

to the misinformed

he wasn’t let go by the colts last year. he got an injury settlement from the colts in 08. last year he played in the af2 league and was a receiver and returner. back at wash. st at his pro day he supposedly ran a 4.6 40.

if there’s anything else, research it yourself. i’m sure he’s the best since we have him. that seems to be the common theme with some on this blog.

Hey Crab ~

I tried to find out more on him and I couldn’t find much… and you’re right… He probably is the best! lol… (another good one!) Truth be told… I seriously do hope he lights it up! Wouldn’t that be a God Send for the Pack? One less thing to worry about! Have a GREAT NIGHT! : )

correction

he ran a 4.46 40 back in 08. don’t know what kind of injury he sustained in 08 for the colts to settle with him.

by hermitcrab on Mar 10, 2010 9:43 PM CST reply actions

I was going to say a 4.6...

is not that fast for a returner…. a 4.4 now your talking some speed! ~ thats with all serious but isnt kinda strange how 2 tenths of a second make you fast or just average in the NFL?

by bizzle4 on Mar 10, 2010 11:28 PM CST up reply actions

Super strange! It’s kind of like .08 determining who takes the gold and who takes the silver in downhill skiing. Haha random, but it kind of relates.

think about this

the human heart at rest beats 70 times a minute or so…..that means that tit takes on average about .85 seconds to complete a single resting heartbeat.

nicke Collins

to the person who said let me know when he signs his real contract so i know he wont hold out. thats crazy he could have held out the last 2 years this is one reason i dont like TT he dick around with the players 2 much and makes them not want to stay in GB.
