Packer Free Agent Rumors: Ignoring Jake Delhomme
I completely ignored this free agent rumor last week: QB Jake Delhomme to the Green Bay Packers. It seemed so unlikely, and seemed to be based on nothing more than the fact that Mike McCarthy and Delhomme are friends. I couldn't bring myself to speculate about why the Packers would want a 35 year old QB with no arm strength.
Instead the new Browns regime led by Mike Holmgren went crazy and decided to pay Delhomme $7 million in 2010 to be their starting QB. It's a good deal for Delhomme: he's still waiting on nearly $13 million from the Panthers for a deferred signing bonus. I'm glad those rumors died a quick death. Browns's fans don't seem eager for the Delhomme era either.
Vermont Cubs Fan wrote a Fanpost about the fallout from the Delhomme signing: the trade of QB Brady Quinn to the Broncos.

Do we really...
…have a front-page article about a weak rumor about a player coming to Green Bay after they already signed with another team and are, therefore, obviously not coming to Green Bay?
C’mon.
Strange
I thought this was strange too…first, clearly you can’t bring in a guy one year removed from starting who thinks he still can onto a team with a young for sure starter…that would be a TERRIBLE move. I like the idea of bringing in a Garcia or someone with more experience in case Aaron goes down though, this team could go big this year but if we lose Aaron its all over…we need to at least have someone that can step in and move the machine down the field with confidence!
Perhaps Delhomme is not the guy
The Packers desperately need a veteran backup quarterback. Rodgers could go down at any time, and Matt Flynn hasn’t taken any meaningful snaps in his professional career. If he would have agreed to be the back-up, Delhomme would have been perfect. We need to find somebody like him.
