Eagles release G Shawn Andrews, Bears release CB Nate Vasher
Can we at least hear that the Packers are talking to SOMEONE! Someone other than Australian guys that no one knows. Here are two positions that we need help with. Vasher isn't a starter anymore, but that's not what we need. Vash could be a great 4th CB, anything would be better than Jarrett Bush at this point.
We've had depth problems on the offensive line, and while Andrews wouldn't be a starter, he would be another great veteran to help Lang, Barber and if he take a lineman in the draft, him too. At this point I just would like to hear that Thompson at least realizes that Free Agency is going on right now. I know he loves to build through the draft, but you need to sign a free agent or two. Come on Ted!

Whats the rush?
These guys and all the other middle to lower tier free agents will still be there after the draft. That is when we will know what our holes are.
I still don’t understand the “never signs a free agent” argument when people talk about Ted. He is batting a pretty high percentage when you talk about the big ticket signings (Woodson and Pickett) I dont see Colts fans yelling at Bill Polian for never signing someone elses garbage.
iirc Andrews had some extreme mental issues going into camp last year. Vasher is better than Bush but so are about 200 CBs in the draft.
"I agree but dont agree"
Finally
I had been wondering when the Bears were going to finally release Vasher. It’s seemed like their fans had been complaining about him for years, but Dane Noble was complimentary of him for what he had done in the past. And Jarrett Bush might actually be better than Vasher.
Andrews is someone that would interest the Packers, if the 330+ lb. guard was healthy. He would provide some serious size inside, which is something the Packers were looking for when they added RG Josh Sitton to the starting lineup last year. But JasonB doesn’t think Andrews will ever play again due to his bad back. Even if Andrews can pass a physical, the Packers haven’t shown any interest towards injury prone veterans in recent years (or only to the extent of a low-ball offer that wasn’t accepted). I expect some team will offer him starter money, though he may not be worth it anymore.
Isn't Chad Clifton
an injury prone veteran that we just signed?
Just sayin’

He's a bit different
Clifton has only missed 5 games over the past two seasons. While he’s battled a lot of injuries over the past couple seasons, he’s mostly played through them. I generally assume every NFL starter is playing through some degree of injury. On the other hand, Andrews has only played in 2 games over the past 2 seasons. He’s like the Justin Harrell of offensive lineman.
knee jerk
“Signing free agents” is not good.
“Signing guys that can help the team” is good.
We’re set at O-line except for left tackle depth. The interior is stacked, and there’s only so many guys you can keep on the roster at some point. So, we absolutely do not need a guard. And Vasher was good for about a month 4 years ago.
You sound like one of those fans who need to write this sentence on a 3×5 card and put it on the fridge: Just because a guy is on the market doesn’t automatically mean that we should sign him.
