More Potential Secondary Help
Two experienced DBs have entered free agency in the last few days and would likely be relatively cheap with no compensation of draft picks:
Oshiomogho (O.J.) Atogwe
The Rams on Thursday tendered safety Oshiomogho Atogwe at the lowest tender for restricted free agents with his experience, but the team views it as the opportunity for him to gauge his value from other teams.
Atogwe would be an improvement over Bigby and would be affordable if TT only wants to make one (probably the highest number imaginable) free agent acquisition. Although he is a FS, the two safeties are essentially interchangeable in our system. I couldn't exactly find what it meant by "lowest tender for FA with his experience" but I'm pretty sure it would not be a first round pick. Also, he is only 28 and has some mileage left.
Earlier today, the Jets traded a 3rd-2nd round pick for Antonio Cromartie and released Sheppard. Some reports say he wasn't very good last season, but he was an important part of the Jets' great defense and probably got picked on a lot when teams wouldn't throw at Revis. He would probably come cheap after being released and at only 28 would be an improvement when Harris leaves. I feel like he could even compete with Tramon for the 2nd starting corner spot and potential be a long term solution with our aging corners.

I'm not opposed to either player
But in a weak free agent market, I’d expect Sheppard to get a significant offer from some team desperate for CB help.
It’s more complicated with Atogwe. The best guess is that the Rams will match any offer, but are giving him a real opportunity to negotiate a market contract. But if the Rams would match any offer then he won’t receive a real contract offer from any team. It’s an odd move and it doesn’t seem like he’ll really be available.
I would love to see Atogwe play for us
But I’m not so sure about Sheppard. I think the answer at DB is through the draft, as this is a relatively deep draft class at that position. If we were to sign a free agent, I’d prefer TT goes all-out and chases Dunta Robinson. Chances are slim . . . but I can dream.
Things happen for a reason they say, but I say there's a reason things happen.
Marlin Jackson an Tim Jennings
The Colts aren’t tendering either of the two corners. They were both starters, but the Colts found young talent in the draft. Despite being pushed down the depth chart, they have starting experience and, if we could get them cheap, would be improvements over whoever is our fourth corner after Tramon. Jackson was a former 1st round pick and is only 26, and has been injured the majority of the last two years and I think Jennings is fairly young too.
I hated to see Jackson go, but injuries are the reason. Too much money for the risk and depth we have.
Tim Jennings, however, is the perfect guy for a team who is looking for a CB who gives way too much cushion to a defender and is too short. Opponents knew that every play was good for a successful twelve yard out pattern or curl route against Jennings, who would stay a full city block ahead to insure that he wouldn’t ever get beat deep.

Yeah, there is no chance we sign him simply because of his size. Do you think Jackson has some good play left in him?
On a side note, you guys really struck the jackpot with your two new Cb’s. Both of them look like their gonna be good players in the league!

It all comes down to recovery.
Jackson is a sure tackler and a hard hitter. If he can be his old self after injuring each of his kness the past two seasons, he can be great. I think that the Colts still wanted him, just not for the price they would’ve had to tender based on his last year’s salary. Now it seems that there is more interest than expected, so I suppose the Colts lost him. If so, I hope the Packers can pick him up. And hopefully avoid Jennings…
Thanks about the CBs. I am thrilled with them. Powers is going to be the best CB we have had in a long time, what a great draft choice. And Lacey is good too, especially considering where we drafted him. Polian has done well at this for a long time.

i dont think we will get atogwe but lito shepard or leigh booden i think is a very good possiblity i also think we have a good chance of singing porter which would help us havea good veteran either inside or outside linebaker to pair with barnet hawk and clay mathews people are upset because on the first day ted didnt go out and sign like crazy but really we were only a few game’s from the super bowl with the team we had lsat year we resigned clifton and there is no reason to go crazy on signing we need to fix the o line get another corner to help our secondary and as long as we keep collins and maybe draft another safety to replace bigby cause all ne can do is hit he isnt good incoverage and i like brad jones as a starter but if we can get someone like porter or if were lucky bulloks cause i saw he was a free agent that would be great
