On Javon Walker and Shaun Rogers
Former Green Bay Packers WR Javon Walker is done. One serious knee injury in Green Bay, and further injuries while in Denver, have probably taken away all of his formerly great talent. It doesn't help that he's on the wrong side of 30 either. But what does it say about him that he offered to give the Raiders back their money? Did he realize he took advantage of a senile old man? Is he just feeling sorry for himself? Or maybe he's looking for some attention.
This has nothing to do with the Packers, but I'm venting. DT Shaun Rogers is this year's athlete who was so stupid that he forgot to take the loaded gun out of his bag before he boarded the plane. It seems like there are one of these stories every year and every year I can't believe anyone is that stupid.

I hear ya on the Walker thing!
There are a few ex-Packers that just leave a sour taste in my mouth. I don’t know what exactly it is, but something about how they left just seems stupid. Walker is one of the main ones. That small, petty, and bitter part of my soul has reveled in watching his career since he left GB.
Crybaby never was!
I remember when Walker left Green Bay, “Nobody likes to come to work and get beat up everyday!” Please! I knew he’d get shuffled around and then when he went to Oakland, I knew he was done. Desmond Howard: Superbowl MVP “wanted to be a wide receiver” went to Oakland, done! I think Travis Jervey went to Oakland too: DONE! Oakland under the mismanagement of Al Davis has become a ships graveyard of one-time talented players. The NFL should take the team away from him and sell it to someone else just to ease the suffering of the Raider faithful. Ah, screw it! It may be a Raider Nation but it’s a PACKER WORLD!!!!
Walker
Walker was also never the same after Darrent Williams bled out all over his lap. The 06-07 season—the season Williams was killed during, was his last productive year.
You have to wonder how much was real injury and how much was being messed up in the head.
Really sad. I can’t ever imagine going through something like that.

Shaun Rogers...
continues to show what an idiot he is! Man I still can’t believe he walked into an airport with a loaded weapon in his possession! Some people will never learn!
Pro Athletes
And their speeding tickets and their drugs and their insane partying and airport security stupidity and their DUIs……. WOW just WOW.

I feel that same. When he was here, Walker was my fav Packer. I almost bought a jersey with his number (never havebought one before or since) but then held off…glad I did. After all the crap happened I really soured on him and was bitter that it ended how it did. I didn’t want to see him fall off the face of the earth like this though. I actually drafted him like 3 years in a row in my fantasy league…got burned there too! haha
change of subject
Lets try and nabb Brown from the Bears….Jolly might be having legal troubles.,and Brown would be playing with chip on his shoulder!
Yeah…I started a thread about that…I posed it asking about if he could play OLB, but maybe he’d be protection for if we lose Jolly too.
If he only weighs 260
He can’t cover for Jolly.

Remember?
Wasn’t Favre the cause of the hard feelings aspect of it?
As I recall, it was a fairly normal, run-of-the-mill holdout until Favre chimed in and said that Walker was hurting the team by holding out. It was only then that Javon starting getting really serious about leaving GB. So… it was a normal hold-out with everybody talking and posturing, and then Favre basically calls Walker selfish and greedy in the media, and then Walker’s like “oh, it’s on now” and announces that he’ll never play in GB again.
So, is this just me, or am I remembering it wrong?
No, wait… this was the previous offseason that I’m thinking of. Walker did come back after that holdout. He pretty much walked from his couch to the field, and he proceeded to shred his knee after the 1st quarter of the first game. That’s right. Then he sat out the rest of the season and we traded him the next April.
…and a good thing, too. He never came back from that knee. …although he did show flashes when he was with Denver. Wasn’t there one game where he had a 70 yd reception and a 70 yd rush or something?
Anyway, I’d say the reason GB fans hate Javon is that Favre told us to.
You recalled right.
I was upset with him before Favre chimed in on it. I don’t like it when a guy has one good season and thinks a team should break the bank. I was unhappy with Grant too a couple years ago.
In response to Curly
Sorry, my computer won’t let me reply….
Anyhow, yeah, that’s how it went down. It went from bad to ugly when Favre made his comments. I must agree with Favre on that one though, it was his team at the time and the leader always needs to step up and make a stand. One might beg to differ because it’s none of his business, but considering Favre was running the show then, I supported him then and even now for that action.
And like Trevor, I was also unhappy with Grant for doing that. I’m still bitter towards him because he has never earned any pay raise! It’s not that difficult to get 1200 yards when the defenses focuses on stopping the pas 95% of the time! Granted it’s not the best OL to play behind, but it works to his advantage that defenses don’t prepare to stop him.
"No player is greater than a team."
-Vince Lombardi
At times, it was the worst OL to play behind.
Heck, I felt Ryan Grant earned every cent of his first contract. Did he have a right to hold out? Well…yes. Would Brandon Jackson have held out? No. Would Brandon Jackson have done anything aside from getting tackled after a 1 yard gain on 3rd and 17 after Rodgers took a pair of sacks? Nope.

Holdout
You can’t say Grant was a holdout… He didn’t have a contract!!! And he did show up for OTA’s even if he didn’t participate in the drills. So at least he remained part of the team as much as he could.
All Grant did was use his unique situation and performance to get the best deal he could!!! Something any of us negotiating a contract would surely have done!!!

He was tendered as a exclusive rights free agent so he would be considered a hold out. YOu are right, he was a free agent just like Bigby or Collins or half a dozen players this off season. Once they’ve been tendered, they are still considered hold outs if they refuse to accept the tender.
holdout
I think that only applies if they SIGN the tender offer!!! If they haven’t signed the tender they are still technically FA…
Well either way, the tender was offered if he doesn’t sign it, he’s holding out on that offer. Do a google search on it, they all call him a hold out. As an exclusive rights FA, he’s basically the property of the Packers whether he has a contract or not just by them tendering him. He can choose to not sign it but it doesn’t change his status, they own his rights exclusively, I consider anyone not signing the tender to be a holdout.
Ultimately its just a matter of words. You choose to not call him a hold out and I did but the fact of the matter is that contract talks were in place, offers were being made and he wasn’t taking them and calling them insulting. I get that he needs to make his money…especially as a RB I just don’t like a guy with an 8 game resume acting like he’s Tomlinson in his prime or something. It really put a sour taste in my mouth toward him that is still there.

Same here! Watching him run into our OL’s backs and running scared/soft has gotten old too me.

Not that it really matters, but I thought Favre was in the wrong
Sure it’s easy for the guy who’s making 10 million a year to tell everyone else to do what’s best for the team, but it’s really not any of his business what other players do. And besides all that, as we’ve seen over the previous couple years, Favre is not against putting his own need above those of the team.

Grant’s holdout was too bad but unavoidable, I’d say.
Everybody knew that he was going to be the feature back that year, and he was making a salary in keeping with the 6th rd pick he was traded for. Thing is, feature backs wear out so fast that he just couldn’t afford to waste a prime earning year in his career. If RBs are lucky enough to even get to a second contract at all (most don’t), they’ve got to cash in. They just have to.

Yeah probably right. He was offered contracts though and continued to turn them down and call them insulting though. THAT was the part that pissed me off. He acted like he was in his 3rd 1000 yard season for us or something. He had one good half a season. He did what he had to though to get his. YOu are right, the life expectancy of a RB is quite short so I guess I can’t totally blame him.
