Washington Post: Will The Jets Moves Pay Off?
On a football note unrelated to the Green Bay Packers, I wrote about the recent acquisitions of WR Santonio Holmes and CB Antonio Cromartie by the New York Jets over at the Washington Post.com. It's a follow up on a post I wrote here a couple days ago. From the Washington Post.com:
While I'm concerned about their team's chemistry, Holmes and Cromartie certainly made the Jets a better on-field team and I'm looking forward to watching them in 2010.

I'm not a huge Holmes fan
He’s a #2 receiver with character issues. But he definitely makes their WR corps better. If Sanchez is average, the Jets should be beastly.
Selgy
Team to beat in the AFC
They were one game from the Super Bowl already and made some GREAT moves to make them better…and we haven’t even gotten to the draft yet. This team is ready to be the new Patriots of the 2010 decade if they can keep their young core in tact.
Agreed
They’ve added some nice pieces on offense, and Sanchez should only get better. Their defense really didn’t even really need to make any improvements but they did in a big way. I’d be willing to bet my life that Cromartie will excel in their high pressure defense, just like he did when the Chargers were able to get good pressure in 2007.

I dont think they will be the team to beat in the AFC yet
But I do hope they unseat the Patriots as AFC East champs every year.
They might have the best crew of WRs (Edwards, Holmes, Cotchery, and then Keller at TE) to go with their young QB, a couple of solid RBs. Then they have their same stout defense only better due to Cromartie on the other side. I don’t know who’s better. I think the Colts and Pats are starting to head the other direction. we’ll see though I guess…
Colts are going in the other direction?
Based on what? A lot of people are still picking them to win next years SB. Pats are deffinetely (thank god) but not the Colts. Also there are other teams who have better WRs then the Jets. Colts are one and I would put the Packers group before them also.
Arizona, even without Boldin is still better as well
Mostly due to Fitzgerald probably being the league’s best.

Well for one, the Cardinals are in the NFC, not the AFC…they are not part of this conversation. For two, QB counts…doesn’t matter how good the WRs are if their QB makes them look bad. For three, Aside from Fitz, the other guys are average or just above average…at least in my opinion.
Eh I just don’t see them as on the upswing. They are starting to age some, having to piece things together. They still were good enough to move to the super bowl in the AFC but I think the competition just is either really young and inexperienced (ravens, jets, etc) or going the wrong way. I think the Colts this next year will take a nice step back from where they ended up this year. Just my own take…I am allowed to have that, right?
Sure no one said you weren't
How did the Colts show their age? There oldest players, Peyton Manning and Reggie Wayne, didnt show anything to say they are not elite. Dwight Freeney had an injury that wasnt directly related to age. There DBs are young, There LBs are young, there WRs are young. Dallas Clark is getting better every year. If they fix their OL and get their RBs playing better they should no way not win at least 13 games next year and at least get close to the SB.
The only move I don't agree with was them essentially swapping out Jones for Tomlinson
Although I suppose Greene was going to be the main guy either way so it probably won’t make much difference.
I don’t think it was a swap. Jones wanted to remain THE MAN out there and they were ready to see the younger guys take over. Tomlinson is a little insurance. He is the only one that thinks he has a chance of starting out there…
Tomlinson seems like their version of Ahman Green. In my eyes he was a decent aquisition in an otherwise greatly succesfull FA for them. Hopefully both the Jets and the Dolphins might be able to seriously dance with the Pats this year – Chad Henne is interesting to follow in my eyes. Getting Holmes for that price is a steal and even if he´s “just” the # 2 guy, he´ll precent a threat to respect meaning more holes for Greene (heck maybe even a couple for LT) and a slightly more loose coverage of Edwards might actually make him hold on to that darned ball-thingy. Sanchez has got some pressure on him to deliver now though – interesting to see how that goes. Still WAY better than Leinert…
Prime Time?
Next season the Jets are going to be one of the high profile teams in the league; they will have a lot of attention.
I think that when the Pack plays the Jets, the game could be a Sunday or Monday night matchup..along with Packers and Vikings being in a prime time slot. Also, Packers and Bears seem to be a popular Sunday/Monday night matchup.
How many games will the Pack have on national tv? (OTHER THAN 3 PLAYOFF GAMES!)
