Prospect Watch: Syracuse WR Mike Williams

According to the Buffalo News, Green Bay Packers scout Lee Gissendaner attended the workout of WR Mike Williams. His 4.53 40 time is good, but it looks much better considering his 6'2", 221 lb. frame. He's got 2nd round talent, but questions regarding suspensions and quitting his college team back in November have pushed him down. NFL Draft Scout projects he'll go in the 5th or 6th round. Williams might be a good use for their compensatory pick at the end of the 5th round.

Niagara basketball player Tyrone Lewis also had a workout, and it happened because of Packers scout Eliot Wolf. From the Buffalo News:

Lewis received a Facebook message from Packers scout Eliot Wolf after Wolf watched Niagara beat Siena in a game on ESPN on Feb. 12. "Do you have any interest in playing football again?" inquired Wolf, who was impressed by Lewis' athleticism.

-Ted Thompson just can’t help himself when it comes to drafting wide reciever
-This guy had better be better than the other Mike Williams who was a recievers
-Is this Wolf related to Ron Wolf?

Seriously

Yes… Eliot Wolf is Ron Wolfs son!!! LOL

Thought everyone knew him…. Been working for the Packers in various capacities for a long time. Been a scout basically since he graduated!

I would LOVE to see us use one of our 5ths on the kid. You figure about 90% of 5th rounders end up not doing anything so that is a great place to take a chance on a kid like this. Could end up being the SOD. If that doesn’t work out, then lets hold out for the tall WRs coming out next year!

I think it’d be great if we took Williams. He is a really, really talented guy.

5th round? Why not?

I know I’ve said oodles of times here that our WR core is relatively fine, but if we get good value and a play maker in the 5th round, why not?

I forgot to mention

While Ted Thompson didn’t draft a WR last season, he gave up his 2nd and 3rd round picks to move up for Clay Matthews, he had drafted a WR in the 2nd or 3rd round in his 1st 4 drafts with the Packers. I don’t know if Williams is his guy, but he’s gotta be going through WR draft withdrawal.
