Packers News: OTA Begin on Monday
- The organized team activities (OTAs) begin on Monday, May 17th and run through June 17. I'm assuming Day 1 just involves the players showing up at Lambeau Field and having meetings. Many players have been in Green Bay and working out since the start of the offseason program in March. Other players have arrived later. LG Daryn Colledge didn't travel to Green Bay until after he signed his one-year contract last week.
- I expect everyone will attend the OTAs except the remaining unsigned free agents: DE Johnny Jolly, CB Tramon Williams, and SS Atari Bigby. They have until June 1 to accept the original contract tendered back in March, and it's possible they'd take a pay cut if they didn't sign by then. Their starting jobs should be safe, but Jolly's negotiations are certainly impacted by his May 21st trial date. If I had to pick one player in danger of losing his starting job, I'd pick Bigby. Brian Carriveau has a good rundown of who could play on the first team defense if it's not Bigby. My guess it would be everyone's favorite player (I'm kidding): CB/S Jarrett Bush.
- In his most recent rehab video, CB Al Harris said he'll be traveling to Green Bay in a week or two. I'd be stunned if he actually took part in the team activities. In the video, his current goal is to get the strength back in his injured left leg.

I will feel SO much better when Jarrett Bush is off this team...
Seriously. It’s just the idea of him, as much as anything. Like, “we keep guys around that suck just because we like them.” (meaning that TT & MM like him – nobody else does)
Someone might think, “he’s just a 4th stringer and special teams guy. It’s not that big of a deal.” But it IS. Remember when the team cut Ahmad Carroll. I know I do. It was a fist-pump “YES!” moment. It sent the message to the players that sucking will not be tolerated, no matter where the sucker was drafted. Keeping somebody like Bush around, on the other hand, sends the message that it’s okay to be a developing player who can’t produce. As long as the coaches like you and you’ve got potential, then you can suck all you want and it’s okay. Guys start subconsciously thinking “I can suck today as long as I have the potential to improve tomorrow.”
I’m telling you, this kind of thing is contageous. The number of talented suckers on the team will multiply.
(grr) Man, it just kills me that this guy’s on the team. It was bad enough at first, but now it’s turned into just year after year. …and he never does anything! Somebody, anybody, name for me one good play that Jarrett Bush has made in his three years here (or however long it is). …and compare that goose egg to all the times that he’s given up a TD at D-back, or gotten flagged for interferance, or had a nice return on STs negated because he got caught clipping 15 yards away from the play, and so on and so on and so on…
Okay… happy thoughts…
I’m totally with you. He seems to still be on the team because he is a special teams “contributor”. I say “contributor” because all he seems to “contribute” to is all the penalty yards we rack up on special teams this year. Seriously though, I don’t know that I’ve ever seen somebody line up offsides more then once in the NFL on special teams, let alone high school football. The holding and clipping penalties also get old as you mentioned. The guy seriously needs to go..

Oops. Didn’t mean “this year” in the second sentence. Meant to say, “throughout the past few years”.

deja vu' all over again
This gives me ‘Too Small’ Jamal Reynolds flashbacks!
A-a-r-rg! :)

The glass is more than half-full.
Packers didn't blow the tenth overall selection on Jarrett Bush, fortunately...

Anyone watch this guy last year?

Does he have the potential to be better if he had a better team around him?
Interesting. I don’t know much about him. Maybe I’ll go try and check out the Browns blog to get the skinny on him.

Well he was on a BAD Dolphins team and a bad Browns team…just wondering if anyone knows if the guy has some skills
It wasnt really about the team
He just wanted an extention or trade. But to answer your question he isnt that great. He had a pretty good 6 games for the Browns last year, but he hasnt been anything special other than that
Roth requests a trade?
I’m a little shocked. He was a monster at the University of Iowa but a complete no-show in Miami. Then he is released by the Dolphins, has a little run of good stats with the Browns, and he thinks he can ask for a trade? Even the Browns fans aren’t amused. All the Browns could get in trade would be something like a conditional draft choice. Roth has no leverage. The Browns would be asking for trouble if they gave him a multi-year deal. He’ll have to take their one-year contract offer. Maybe he’s just testing his bosses.
By the way
Has anybody else been watching those Al Harris videos? I mean wow, the guy has improved A LOT and pretty quickly. I’m really curious to see what happens with him this year.
I've watched a couple
Man that scar on his knee is nasty. I’m really curious too. There are a lot of reasons why his comeback should fail, but I’m not ready to bet against him either. I was very impressed with how he came back from his spleen injury in 2008.

Yeah, watching those videos is pretty motivating. It’s just crazy to see him not even being able to fully straighten it, and then just 2-3 weeks later starting to be able to run on it!
Yeah, I’m not sure I’d bet against him either..
