My one and only Lambeau Field experience.
First of all, I am a lifelong Vikings fan. Born in Minnesota and raised in the Purple People Eaters hey day; I can be nothing else. But my dad's side of the family are all Wisconsinites. So I am use to Packer fans "ruining" family functions whenever they occur. Our family cabin is also in Wisconsin. My lifelong battle with the Green and Gold, is and has been a source of amusement since my uncles tried to convert me to Packerdom when I was a young lad.
That said; I wish to tell you about my one and only trek (so far) to Lambeau Field. It was majestic. Compared to our oversized television studio (the Metrodome) and our old Met Stadium; your place ROCKS! It was on one of those picture perfect autumn afternoons; bright blue skies, a few clouds, a little breeze and the fall colors still hanging on. And I personally united practically all the fans that day. Both Packers and visitors. How? I wore my Vikings jersey! Since it was a Bears/Packers game, all the fans were in unison in their collective derision of me. No politician was ever such a uniter of two more divergent sets of people.
The ribbing aside, I had a wonderful time. Seats about 20 rows up on the 40 yd. line. I don't think I ever enjoyed an NFL game more. Once the game started, most fans ignored me and my jersey, and concentrated on the game. The Bears won 30-13 that day. It was Oct. 25, 1992. The games most memorable play was a fake punt. The Bears punter Chris Gardocki passed to RB Mike Green right in front of me. The play stood that day and propelled the Bears to victory. It was later claimed by the NFL to have been of questionable legality. (I remembered the play but not not the individual players or the exact date or score. Gotta love search engines) All in all, a great experience.
My point on writing about this trip down Memory Lane. The stadium issue in Minnesota. Be thankful Packer fans that you have an iconic stadium to watch your team play. We, on the other hand, have a KMart bluelight special of a TV studio. Our new Twins stadium makes this stark difference all the more clear. I hope this issue is resolved before the Vikings pull up and leave town. I would hate for my life long amusement with Packer fans to end on such a sour note. If the unthinkable does come to pass: Thanks for the memories.
Note: I normally just lurk here and read the posts to keep tabs on the competition. And I am a fantasy football junkie. I do on occasion however, comment on Wisconsin beer. I am an expert in this area. ;-P

What is this, an exercise in politeness? Like, “oh, here’s a Vikings fan posting a blog on a Packer site complete with some good-natured jockularity ah-hah-hah-hah Let’s all be civil to him and show how classy we are.”
…very mixed emotions here…
On the one hand, I detest the Vikings and honestly hope they move. On the other hand, I’m sure you’re a nice guy and whatever. But then again, why does a Vikings fan post a blog on a Packer site in the first place? …to tell us Lambeau is a great stadium? We know that. …and that the stadium formerly known as the Twinkiedome sucks? We know that too. We’ve been there. The best part about it is the T-shirt canons. …which obviously suck.
I mean, I’m confused here… do Packer fans post on the DN with good-natured “oh-ho-ho, our rivalry is really quite spirited” blogs? They probably do, I guess.
I think I probably feel the same way as did the people sitting around you at Lambeau: “yuck.” A guy would get his ass kicked in Philly for that kind of thing. …which I don’t approve of, but… still.
I have
Mostly with the stadium thing and to give some moral support. I hate the Vikings and have little patience with many of their fans, but a team moving is the last thing I would wish upon any enemy. It’s like communal kick to the groin that no fan base should endure.

Hey Mr. Lambeau.
I am a nice guy. And I am classy also. (Thanks for noticing.) In May. As September closes in, I become a relentless smart-ass. I trash talk both the Packers and the Bears. I still don’t bother with the Lions. But my wit and charm are always based in fact; i.e. my trash talking is always civil. Maybe it comes from years of practice in trash talking with people I actually like. (my aforementioned relatives)
But just to make you more comfortable; I will start now. :-)
1. My cousin and I have set an over/under on the times J. Allen sacks the GB QB in the first meeting. I insisted on the term of GB QB rather than Aaron because he might not make it to the 4th quarter. The # is 3 1/2. The wager: a six pack of Leinie’s. (in case you still don’t understand; this bet pre-supposes that your OL sucks)
2. If it wasn’t for Cutler, the Packers would have the whiniest QB in the league. The fact that both QB’s play in the Vikings division is icing on the cake. They are both truly gutless wonders who make easy fodder for my smart-assness. In all fairness though, your guy can’t hold a candle to Cutler when it comes to juvenile whining.
I hope you find it easier to vilify me now. Sorry I caused you stress and upset your green and gold view of the world. You are right about one thing though: I would never try that jersey stunt in Philly. I like myself too much.

In regards to Post #1 & 2
1. I’d probably do the same if I weren’t a Packer fan….and I’m being honest.
2. Rants have no validity
P.S- Vikings suck. That’s how brutal we are here. They suck, we rock, and that’s the end of it. ; )
"No player is greater than a team."
-Vince Lombardi
#2 is a rant
But it is based in reality. That’s what makes it somewhat plausible.
As for your P.S.-nice rant!
Bet
I’ll take a piece of that wager!!! Clifton didn’t play in either of the games against the vikes last year, if he had it would have likely been 1 per game!!! Our OL just got alot better and they’ll be pissed for looking bad vs Allen and Co.
Another 6 of Lienies is it?!! LOL You might have to hand deliver in AZ though. LOL
According to my spies in AZ:
Leinie’s is now sold in AZ. If I decide to visit my spy, you can hand deliver it to me at Turf Paradise. I’ll be the one with the historically inaccurate Viking horns on my head.
The Bet
So the bet is a 6 pack of Lienies w/ me getting the 6 pack from you, when the packers allow less than 3.5 sacks to the viqueens!!! When I win I will let you know where to meet me (you or your spy)…
Fine!
But I think that the Lions will win the Super Bowl before either of us hands over a six pack to the other. Maybe not.
Whiney?
I guess that means Jared Allen would be up for whiniest DE in the division for his crying after someone finally took a cheap shot BACK at him after all the ones he’s delivered? I don’t think Rodgers is all that whiny but maybe I am missing something.
Haha I can’t even lie, I was happy to see Cherilus take a cheap shot at Jared Allen. I found it even more funny to see Allen whining like a little girl. Guess he couldn’t take a little dose of his own medicine.

Curious?
What makes Rodger’s seem like a “whiner” to you?
by packallday555 on May 30, 2010 11:45 PM CDT up reply actions
no real proof
It is he who is blamed for running Favre out of town. He WHINED he would leave if he didn’t get his chance. This is according to my Packer friends. They have since changed their tune. Favre is now a traitor and Rodgers is the second coming of… well… Favre.
not really accurate...
I don’t remember hearing anything about Rodgers ACTUALLY whining, but there was a lot of speculation that if Favre was given his job back again, Rodgers would be done with the Packers. There was never anything I saw where Rodgers said anything about it though. Just rubes (using a term from your Viking god, PA) like us speculating on how WE would react. Honestly, I think Rodgers handled the situation about as well as someone could. He was in a sucky position. NOW not only was he the successor for an all time great, but he was the one they CHOSE over him. Yuck…talk about serious pressure!?!?
PA is not a God.
He is a pompous ass. IMHO. Don’t take his advice on the NFL or horse racing. EVER! Even his “inside info” is unreliable. He is a schill for the company line. The best part of his show is when Charch is on.
I don’t remember Rodgers whining either. Like I said, my Packer friends were telling me this. As Packer fans (and one Packer season ticket holder), they were more plugged in than I. Truthfully, I cared less at the time. Once Favre got here though, the tide turned against Brett and to Aaron. I did not really follow Acme back then, so maybe everyone here supported running your future HOF, franchise QB out of town. At the time though, Rodgers was unproven and from my perspective; a whiner.
by Odin on Jun 1, 2010 8:41 PM CDT up reply actions 1 recs
If you never actually heard him whine, then it would seem any speculation would be just heresay
Plus, it would be pretty unreliable because at the time of Favre’s departure, the fanbase was pretty split with a lot of anti Rodgers sentiment. Again, Rodgers never really came out and said anything regarding Favre, but I think fans were mostly upset that he wasn’t Brett.
by Charlie Kelly on Jun 1, 2010 8:52 PM CDT up reply actions
ummm....what did I do?
So let me get this straight, Rodgers did not make a peep and he’s a whiner?
What your Packer fans friends meant is this….
It was rumored that Rodgers would of soured on the Pack if Brett would of stayed. That’s really it. Compare that to Steve Young who did whine, often, to the media.
By the by, double check your facts before you call someone a pompous ass….especially on another team’s site.
by PackApologist on Jun 1, 2010 10:23 PM CDT up reply actions
No
That is not what they meant. They meant what they said. Amazing that you can tell what my friends meant without ever meeting them.
Steve Young has nothing to do with this conversation. Whether or not Steve Young whined has nothing to do with the degree of Aaron Rodgers whininess.
Your grammar left some doubt; but I think you are calling me a pompous ass. Fine, I may well be a pompous ass. That does not preclude that some one else is also a pompous ass. (and I called the Vikings play by play guy a pompous ass; not anyone here)
I understand the points you are trying to make. And I may be wrong about Aaron. But your logic is disjointed. My “facts” may not represent the entire truth. Let’s just say that we interpet the whininess factor of Mr. Rodgers differently. In the interest of good will; I will move Vince Young and Matt Leinart ahead of Aaron Rodgers when it comes to whininess. :-)
It's funny when people comment on other's grammar.
Truthfully, I cared less at the time.
Haha, what?

That was nothing more than a rumor
As in it was rumored Rodgers’ would not renew his contract if the Packers took the keys from Rodgers and gave it back to Favre. You don’t need rumors or speculation to understand that though, ANYONE would do that!
Here’s an example in our world: If I owned a business and you were a cashier making minimum wage, then I gave you the keys to become a Manager and having a very generous salary. Afterwards, somebody decides to unretire, so I take that all away and put you back to where you were after all the promises I gave you. How would you feel? Disowned? Disrespected? Dishonored?
That’s just a simple example in how that whole speculated event took place. At no time did Aaron Rodgers ever complain, at least to his friends, teammates, or the media. That is most definately not whinning by any means.
"No player is greater than a team."
-Vince Lombardi
Your first paragraph makes sense.
Of course at the time I hated both Favre and Rodgers. I still find cheering for Brett a little weird. It’s just not comfortable…yet.
I think a lot of the Viking fans were closet Favre fans even as a packer. They HAD to hate him because he was a Packer and he was so good but suddenly he’s on the other side and they love him…you might have had TRUE hatred though if you still struggle! :-)
I only know a few Viking fans who still truly hate Favre
But the rest of all went from despising him to calling him the greatest ever, but I’d imagine some of that could be them trying to irritate me.
by Charlie Kelly on Jun 2, 2010 10:30 AM CDT up reply actions
THANK YOU!
I literally cannot listen to his show. I listen to Kfan all day (keep your enemies close, right) but when his Good Times music starts, I turn off the radio. He personifies the Viking fans that we all hate…arrogant, unable to be subjective, and just an ass to people who don’t agree. Charch is good. That station needs to give Cove (sludge) his own show, he completely carries the morning show and he’s better than basically everyone on the station (maybe not Barrario if he’s your cup of tea).
You are right, Rodgers was VERY much unproven. Acme was a pretty divided place…as was anywhere Packer related. I was in the court of, its time to move on, I want to see if Rodgers can do it (I wasn’t a believer but I was ready to move on and see what the future had in store for us). Rodgers was far from a whiner though.
I too, hate Paul Allen with a passion
Which is why it never gets old watching these.

Perspective
Just a matter of perspective… Seeing #4 throw that INT for me it almost made up for the Favre TRAGEDIES against Philly and NYG!!! LMAO Almost healed my hearache of watching the Pack lose to the Cards in person!
Was watching w/ friends, w/ a few vike fans at a table next to us! THey all DIED w/ that play… I just said, “I TOLD YOU SO…” LOL
Now there is the distinction
As an announcer I actually really enjoy PA. He’s passionate and makes the broadcast interesting and exciting. I expect complete homerism during a team radio broadcast so I guess it doesn’t bother me as much. As a radio DJ I expect one to be able to be subjective…he isn’t EVER.
That said…the second one, the Cardinals game. I still remember where I was. I was leaving the Packers/Broncos game. I had a long drive back to MN and the Broncos had basically mailed it in for us so I zipped out about 5 min before the end so I didn’t get caught in the traffic cluster #$@. I had the Viking game on Sirius on the way home. I actually pulled over during the last play cause I was swerving all over the road with excitement that the Cardinals…the lowly Cardinals just won the division for us. I didn’t hear PA’s call live (it was the national announcers) but I heard it hundreds of time since on KFAN. It never gets old.
I won't complain...
hey if he wants to come in here and rave about our stadium and the gametime experience here, don’t stop him. Its a complement to the city, the team, and the fans…they all make up the experience! I mean he could lie like some Viking fans I’ve talked to who have said the dome is better (which is almost impossible) but he came out and wanted to share his experience so let him!
I comment on DN (and do an occasional fanshot) ....
… more often than I comment here.

On stadiums
Be thankful Packer fans that you have an iconic stadium to watch your team play.
The last time I went to watch a game in a new stadium the thing I noticed was how much it felt like a big Costco. The last time I was at Lambeau I was absorbed in the experience although Lambeau has many modern features after the last renovation was completed. Maybe part of that is just being a diehard fan but making a stadium seem somehow iconic seems beyond any modern architect.
Last Packer game I went to was in 2007.
The two oldest starting QBs in the NFL went head to head, and the Packers won.
Then Brett Farve happened. Sigh…

You may be right
about new stadiums having that Costco feel. But if the Vikings can replicate what the Twins accomplished…… one can dream.
One time I was in an airport and I saw a mom and dad with four sons
the oldest had a bears jersey, the second oldest had a packers jersey, the third oldest had a vikings jersey, and the youngest had a detroit jersey. They ranged from 13 to 5 years in age.
all I remember from that was thinking how awesome and stupid the parents were at the same time
He should be suspended. That is a flat-out, absolute disgrace to the umpiring profession, what this guy has been doing. West doesn’t care. -Hawk

Definitely have to agree with the iconic stadium thought and as someone said earlier about new stadiums feeling like oversized Costco’s. Theres nothing like watching a game or even just being at an old time, classic stadium. Ive beene to Lambeau once and it was one of the greatest days of my life, and I went in 2005 when the team was 1-6 at the time and the lost to the Steelers (who would win the Bowl). It was an amazing experience that involved my team being 1-6 and i cant wait to be there again when the team is having a successful season. Ill never forget Lambeau Field and I always think of it in the same vein as Yankee Stadium to me. Being in NY, Ive been to alot of games at the old stadium and a couple at the new one. While the new stadium is amazing it just doesnt have the same feel and appeal as the classic stadium. Thats just how special Lambeau & Yankee Stadium are to me with their classic history and traditions and its something the new stadiums of today lack.
Favre 4 Ever
I Believe In Chris Drury
I refuse to believe that MN would be stupid enough to let the Vikings leave town.
I just don’t buy it. It’ll get resolved at the last minute. Right now it’s the same thing that went on for years in Milwaukee: political musical chairs, where those with the authority to get the stadium built try to avoid being seen as the deciding voter that either:
1) spends hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars;
or
2) sends the state’s NFL team packing.
If one or two people are seen as the deciding voters that cause either of those 2 results, they lose their jobs, and they know it. It’s what happened to Petaki (or whatever his name was) whose change in vote saved the Brewers for Wisconsin and cost him his career as a legislator.
But sooner or later, someone will get talked into being the last guy to vote yes. They’ll be offered a job, or friendship they can use to get a job later, and they’ll vote yes. The voters will be outraged, but you’ll have your Vikings.
I hate the freaking Vikings. I hate their purple uniforms, their lousy stadium, their piped in crowd noise, those stupid and historically inaccurate horned helmets, the fake Helga hair hats the moronic fans wear, that otherwise unemployed dude who toots his horn while wearing rat fur on the sidelines, and Brett Freaking Favre. But I don’t want them anywhere else. How am I supposed to get worked up about playing the Los Angeles Vikings of Anaheim, or whatever the hell they’’ll be called out there? I’m supposed to hate the Bears, but I haven’t been able to really commit to that since the ‘89, and when I was a kid (in the 70’s), it was the Vikings who mattered. I watched the Vikings crush the Packers for 5 straight years when I first became a fan before I finally got to see the Packers win a game against them, and that bitter little 7 year old still lives in my heart. Any game the Vikings win is a tragedy, and every heart-breaking playoff loss they suffer is a triumph.
The Vikings mean almost as much to me as the Packers do, and I don’t want that lousy state you live in taking that away from me.

Wow.
That was a little ambiguous. Could you clarify your position for me and maybe add a little emotion to your arguments? ;-P
Never underestimate the power of Minnesota politicians to screw everything up when it comes to sports (or anything else for that matter). Lakers, a great franchise; allowed to move. The North Stars pack and leave; then we pay a premium to get the Wild. I swear, our politicians would allow the U of M to relocate to South Dakota if they thought they could score “political points” by doing so.
But they kept the Twins and build a world class stadium to do it, by all accounts (haven't been there yet myself.)

Would Wilf REALLY be THAT dumb? THAT is the question.
by OBrienSchofieldismyHero on May 31, 2010 10:30 PM CDT up reply actions
Choice
He may not really have a choice! If he doesn’t get a stadiium soon, the NFL might and Wilf himself might get past the point of no return. Wilf has been trying to get a stadium since he bought the team, and I have to believe he is losing patience. THe NFL surely wants the viqueens making more money as does Wilf… SO how long do you wait until you start looking elsewhere for the new stadium and revenue streams it would bring?
Wilf might not make that choice
But he will sell it to someone who would. From what I’ve read about Wilf is that he sounds like the most ideal sort of owner. He loves the game, he lets the professional football people to their thing, and he just wants the fans to share in that joy.
Unfortunately, he doesn’t have a fan base that supports their team in the way most others do. Sorry Viking fans, but when you can’t sell out a home playoff game, or most of the games of last year until the season starts despite having a HOF QB, and have the franchise make less money then other franchises in smaller venues or in worse straights then you (Forbes magazine estimated the Jags made more money than the Vikes last year), well then it’s time to take a hard look in the mirror as a fan base.
No, Wilf does not want his family name to be quite like “Model” in Cleveland. He will sell the team to an owner with less of a heart though.

… the internet is still governed by content. If you’ve got something people can’t get anywhere else or if the writing is good, you get hits and conversation. If not, you get this. The other issue is, for Packer fans in WI anyway, we can talk Packer football with virtually anyone, any day, any time, any where. So unless the writing is good enough to bring us back, there’s little incentive to turn up regularly. Brandon seems like a nice guy, but the content here is pretty bland and can generally be found a dozens of other sites as well.
