Jennings becoming an Actor?
Evidently........ http://www.packers.com/news/stories/2010/05/04/1/
According to packers.com, Greg Jennings will be having a cameo role on CBS's "Criminal Minds". My own thoughts were that this is the right passage to fame. Many NFL pro's end up in the media for negative reasons (guns, drugs, oawi's, motorcycle accident's ET AL.) It is nice to see a positive NFL image in this day and age and especially from a Green Bay Packer. So, although I don't get to enjoy watching him "hit the jackpot" against the Bear's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ki2KAtO8if0&feature=related , I can check out his acting skills tonight on CBS. Any thoughts on this? I think it is pretty cool.

Why not?
Jennings can pretend to drop the ball and make a one handed TD catch, utterly faking out the closest defender!

Thanks for
taking it easy on me guy’s….. this is officially my first " fanpost" ever! Not the best or most interesting topic, but I wanted to try it out.
can't be worse
than favre’s cameo on “something about mary”———-brutal.
Jennings is an amazing reciever we vike fans can only hope S . Rice stays this
productive . I hope he doesn’t do a Jason Taylor and lose focus on the game he loves .
Jennings is amazing!
S. Rice is average without Favre throwing the ball to him. Favre made recievers better his whole career this is just another example.
eh you can’t really say that yet. You won’t be able to until Favre is gone. Jennings actually took a step back last year over his past two years…I think he’ll respond nicely this year though.
Jennings
I don’t believe for a second that Jennings took a step back… I believe he took a step UP… TO the #1 WR role. He became the #1 WR and Driver took a step back down to #2 WR!!! Jennings is the one who opposing offensive coordinators game planned to take out of the game last year!!! Given that he was double covered the majority of the season, he put up very good numbers. And when Finley was making his presence felt Jennings had an outstanding final month or so…
Jennings and Finley are easily the #1 and #2 recieving options in ’10!!! Driver falls all the way down to the #3 recieving option.
double teamed
well, most if not all dc gameplan against their opposition #1 receivers, so jenningns numbers last year were pedestrian. nobody ever gameplans against a. johnson, r.wayne, r.moss, s.rice, m.austin,s.smith,, ect, -——-and it’s a good thing too or those guys wouldn’t put up the numbers they have. as you can see i agree with trevor, that jennings——imo——-took a step back last year. if your going to be paid like an elite receiver——68 catches,1,100 yard, 4 td’s, isn’t exactly elite numbers in the pass happy nfl.
if your rebutle is that the packers and rodgers spread the ball around alot, that is correct, but than why give out top dollar for mediocre numbers when nelson or jones would be able to put up similar numbers given the chance———they would cost much, much less in an offense that spreads the ball around.
sidenote
jennings made 4 million for every td last year————not 2 shabby—-imo.
or
roughly 230,000 $ per reception—just to keep it in perspective, so imo he did underachieve for what he was getting paid last year.
compare
Did I compare Jennings to Johnson, Wayne, Moss, etc??? NO… YOU just did!!! All I said was that he was drawing the double teams for the Packers INSTEAD of Driver!!! His numbers were down some, but that still means he took a step UP to becoming the #1 WR. Look who stepped up down the stretch when it mattered! Over 500 yds in the final 5 games and playoffs!
NOT to shabby is it?!!
nope
but you did make the excuse of his mediocre season being that he was double teamed. i just put out a few names that also have been double teamed last year and were far more productive.
I am with you. Moving from #1 to #2 doesn’t mean he moved up in terms of production. Even if he wasn’t the #1 according to depth charts in the past, he was still the guy that was double teamed the year before most of the time. He’s the deep threat and therefore will draw extra safety coverage. He had a down year, both in yards and in TDs…its okay to admit it.
I was thinking the same thing as I read this discussion. It reminds me of how we always used to make excuses for Favre’s late-season choke jobs. “oh, it was his receivers oh it was the defense oh he’s just trying to make something happen” blah blah blah. The guy folded in the playoffs. That’s who he is. But we tried to mythologize him and made excuses at every turn. And the media helped too, and then Brett bought into it himself, and before you knew it everybody’s living a lie. The nice part about him leaving was the relief of having that bubble pop where now I feel like I can evaluate his career honestly and say, for instance, that “John Elway was a better QB.” There. I said it. It feels good to say true things.
Anyway, back to Jennings… he had an off year production-wise. It’s akay to admit it. He’s still a good player and a good guy. It’s fine. He’ll be back or he won’t.

But see, I don’t think any of us would compare him to Andre Johnson, Randy Moss, Larry Fitzgerald, Calvin Johnson, or Steve Smith. Those guys are the best of the best, and I don’t think Jennings is on that level. I think it’s a little premature to list Rice and Austin in that list. Both prior to this year have done virtually nothing. They both have to continue to produce.
Yes, we know all other #1 WR’s get double teamed but a lot of those teams didn;t have the same problems pass blocking that we did. I assumed you watched our games last year in the first half of the season. If so, I’m also going to assume that you saw us having to leave a Rb and Te back to block. As you can probably figure out, that leaves us with 3 guys to go out on routes. A lot of the time, teams only rushed 4-5 guys against our max protection sets and were STILL able to get good pressure against us.
What has made Jennings so effective these past few years for us is his tremendous route running and explosiveness. In prior years we would run him and Driver on slant routes pretty consistently. Teams would eventually start to play this, and when they did so, Jennings would give them the slant n’ go and be on his way. We have him run a lot of double routes because he is very, very good at them. In order for these to work though, you need time and the defense respected the underneath route. In the first half of the season, we presented neither. McCarthy wanted to start off games calling the deep routes. That in itself limits the effectiveness of double move routes. Then add to that, that Rodgers rarely had anymore then 3-4 seconds to throw. When that is the situation your put in, and teams are bracketing you, it’s going to be hard for you to be really effective.
Not surprisinly, when McCarthy started calling more quick route type plays and when our OL improved Jennings started to become more effective. I get that we’re paying him a lot of $, and I get we’d like him to be more productive, and under the right circumstances he has been and will be.

actually
rodgers 1st games last year were basically the same as the 2nd half.
1st 8 games———2,137 yards and 16 td passes
last 8 games———2,135 yards and 14 td’s
as you can see—the numbers are equal, no matter what line combination their was.
I wasn’t talking about Rodgers production..

rodgers production
is a direct correlation with jennings and the passing game(jennings is a wr right?) and you referrenced or had an excuse “o-line shuffle” and i just showed you facts that the passing game didn’t suffer. jennings just wasn’t getting open. that’s fine, the numbers show rodgers was finding other players that were open.
so——-either jennings couldn’t beat the double team early in the year and when he found success late in the year it was a direct correlation with finley’s emergence, where jennings was seeing more single coverage.
the elite receivers beat double teams———-jennings isn’t their yet, hopefully he can turn the corner and get to that level, but he’s not their yet. the pack will need him to step up his game this year if they want to reach the ultimate goal.

I didn’t say the passing game suffered I said Jennings suffered because of the OL and play-calling.
And yes, he had troubles beating the double teams. He was getting doubled quite often with a safety bracketing him. (Which resulted in many deep bombs to Driver.)
I don’t think he is an elite WR yet, like I said above.

speaking of drugs
Did you guys see the article on yahoo about Brian Cushing being suspended for 4 games for steroid use? I am so happy we picked the Claymaker!!!!

I agree S.Rice needs to prove himself .
Chris Carter’s camp really put the fear of God in him .
I also agree Brett passes that bravado on to other teammates as a whole and his window of accuracy is key to Rice’s success . It’s a lot to hear him mentioned with Jennings .
The key to Jennings success is Donald . The Brett of WR’s without the divaness and baggage .
Don’t be critical of Jennings . The over achieving patchwork , not in a bad way , O-line forced the long throws that may have pulled him away from his strengths . Being one -on-one matchups as safeties had time to pursue on the deep routes IMO
I was really impressed with Rice this year. I did NOT see it coming. I figured everyone would ramp up their stats with Brett out there, but I didn’t see Sidney emerging like he did. I am still extremely curious to see how he does sans Favre. I am weighing keeping him for my fantasy team next year…Bretts decision will affect my decision.
When a QB places the ball with such accuracy it's easy .
Brett having a little less on it these days helps not to break fingers like in the GB days .
This should lead to a re-imagining
of the great Willie Mays Hays movie with Jessie Ventura, “Black Lightning White Thunder”

Jennings in his debut...
This article by MJD on Yahoo Sports has an actual clip of his performance. Seemed to do a pretty nice job actually:
