Packers Back To OTA, Jolly's Trial Might Begin, Green to the UFL(?), and Restricted Free Agents

 - The Green Bay Packers are back at practice on Tuesday, and their Wednesday practice is open to the public. We might hear some news after then.

 - DE Johnny Jolly's trial should begin on Tuesday after it had its umpteenth delay last week.

 - The UFL draft is taking place on Wednesday. Former Packers offensive coordinator Jeff Jagozinski is taking over as head coach of the new Omaha Nighthawks, they had their expansion draft back in April, and now they might select RB Ahman Green who seems unlikely to land another NFL job.

 - The Packers have to re-issue the tender offer to their unsigned restricted free agents (Jolly, CB Tramon Williams, and SS Atari Bigby) on June 1. This shouldn't be a big deal for them. The only team that may not do this is the Rams with S Oshiomogho Atogwe. Pro Football Talk has a good summary of the process:

June 1 has relevance to the process because, technically, the tenders must be re-issued on that date...

As of June 1, the re-issued tender must be the greater of the previous tender or 110 percent of the prior year's salary...

The next key date comes on June 15, when the tender can be reduced to 110 percent of the player's 2009 salary, a development that would dramatically reduce the 2010 salaries for some of the unsigned restricted free agents.

SHOCKER...

Greg Bedard is reporting that the trial is pushed back AGAIN, to Friday this time.

Jolly is an idiot

I don’t care what he says about “how he plays” Jolly pretty much cost the packers any momentum they had with his personal foul for head butting chester taylor.

He’s got some of his home boys to testify that the drink with the codeine in it was theirs and not his. The test that they threw the case out for the first time is supposed to somehow prove that it was in fact Jolly’s.

Any way you slice it, the guy continues to make stupid decisions. I only sorta like him as a player because of the garbage above. For me to really route for him, he’s got to get his act together. Perhaps the best thing for him as a person would be to get suspended and possibly do some jail time/community service. Maybe this is the wake up call he needs. Let’s hope so – becuase if he does get off, it’s sort of like endorsing this idiotic behavior.

Agreed

I couldn’t believe when he head butted Taylor. Who thought we would be able to stop the most powerful Rb in the league again 3 times inside the 5 yard line? I sure as hell didn’t. He made some other stupid plays throughout the year as well. And on top of that, his play isn’t all that impressive.

I sure hope Pickett works out at LDE with Raji at NT.

I was SCREAMING at him through the TV when he did that and my wife was laughing (she’s a viking fan)…one of those momentum shifters you don’t recover from.

His frequent mental errors forced me to lose support of him

Not only was it noticeable on the field, but now off the field as well. Sorry, but as many of you know, I do not have strong feelings towards Jolly. I hope the Packers cut him. We can get just as much production out of our rookies or Pickett / Raji.

On top of that, what really dissapoints me is he was never solidified as the LE starter. It’s not like he was a 1st Round pick just not caring. He was a 6th Round pick. These guys have a steep mountain to climb, and adding in off field issues does not make it easier. What he did was dumb. Plain and simple. I do not want him on this team anymore!

I would like to see the Packers offer Green a 500K contract,

he’s worth a flier. He actually produced as a 3rd down back last year. Plus it’s not like we have a lot of great options.

who do you send packing? Do you keep Grant, Jackson, the rookie, and Green then? I probably wouldn’t object to something like that either…I’d rather have Green than someone like Wynn I think.

NO, Green is not PS eligible!!!!

Only 1st or 2nd year players w/ little to no time on the active 53 man roster are eligible.

haha

Was that really a question? That was one instance where I support your use of multiple exclamation points.

Plus, even if he were eligible, we wouldn’t want to put him on there. The PS is for promising guys that you want to protect and teach. If a guy’s on our practice squad, that means that other teams can’t sign him without our permission basically (we have the option of signing him before they do). So, why would we want to protect Green? If we need him at some point in the season, it’s pretty much a given that he’ll be available.

by Curly Lambeau on Jun 2, 2010 11:26 AM CDT up reply actions

actually

If a guy is on our PS, the another team can sign him to their 53 man roster immeditately. Then only the player can decide if he wants to go to the other teams 53. The Packers have the option of promoting him to the 53 man roster, but they would have to have a roster spot available or release someone else!

What he said...

Which is why we lost both Brohm and that OT last year from our practice squad…
