Packers Wednesday Practice Open To The Public

Which means we get some pictures and reports of who's playing and how they're doing. Unfortunately the Green Bay Packers are not in pads, so this isn't a real indication of what's to come.

It was first reported today that WR Donald Driver and LB Nick Barnett had their knee(s) scoped this offseason. It means they're sitting out practice now, and we'll have to wait and see if it's anything more serious. For Barnett, it's the same knee that had the torn ACL back in 2008. TE Jermichael Finley and NT Ryan Pickett also sat out with minor injuries.

Greg Bedard and Lori Nickel also had a live blog of practice. They said good things about CB Brandon Underwood, CB Pat Lee, and not surprisingly QB Aaron Rodgers. Despite the lessons of last season, they had Allen Barbre at left tackle and Bedard said "Think Barbre ends up on ground more than any lineman." They also mentioned that Justin Harrell practiced at left DE and NT. I'm not getting my hopes up, but it's good to see him back on the field. I'd love to read an interview with him to hear how he's feeling compared to last year. Go check it out for more mentions of a lot of players.

Harrell isn't injured yet?

Its a minor miracle!

Seriously though, the Barnett one is a little concerning. That is a guy I don’t want to see us be without.

No he doesn’t get injured till they put on pads. Give it a monthish and he’ll be on his back.

Good to hear that Underwood and Lee looked good.

HOpefully the Underwood saga isn’t too much of a distraction for him…

Harrell interview

Well, I remember Harrell doing a couple interviews at almost this exact time last year saying how he was feeling great and he had high hopes that the injuries were behind him and so on. So, I don’t know how much an interview now would mean.

With him, I just wish upon a star that someday he contributes something. That’s it. No expectations. And no words are going to get my hopes up. It remains too bad that he’s got that bad back. He seems like a nice kid, and he must be a hard worker if he’s still trying to gut it out. So, you hope for the best for him, but… obviously don’t hold your breath, and I would say don’t even expect anything ever. There’s no reason to think he’ll ever be a good player. I mean, even if let’s say the back does allow him to get on the field, how long will it last, and compare that to how long it’ll take him to learn the pro game (don’t forget, he’s still pretty much a rookie in terms of experience)?

I mean, do bad backs ever just magically get better? Let’s face it, he’s got a miniscule chance of ever being able to contribute, much less be a valuable asset to the team.

You are right…I think. I remember interviews like that too…along with positive talk about him making an impact in 2009. Sure enough, fooled again. I hope he does something this year, we sure have paid him enough to do nothing so far!

Williams

Pat Williams turned out “pretty” good, after he had back surgery when he first got to the NFL. Other than that I totally agree… No words will make me believe or trust he won’t get injured again. Only his playing well thru training camp and the preseason, will start to make me a believer… And thats just a start…
