Aaron Rodgers Talks "Trash" About The Lions

Lost amongst all the ESPN bashing by Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers during his recent radio interview with ESPN Milwaukee was this on the Lions pointed out by the Freep.com:

Rodgers’ rationale was that a few changes could bolster the franchise.

"New uniforms, new logo," Rodgers said Monday. "Worked for the Lions, right?"

There you go, Leos. Circle the date: Oct. 3 at Lambeau.

As far as trash talk goes, that's pretty weak. Is that really going get their players mad?

Yeah, one of the Lions guys posted something on this over on their blog. Most of their fans didn’t really consider it trash talk. Though some of them were upset about it, and were hoping that Delmas or Suh would give him a shot. I don’t really think what he said is necessarily “trash talk”. Just seemed like another case of he and the “The Homer” joking around with one another.

I'm so ready for training camp

I don’t know what it is exactly, but this offseason seems to be taking forever. It might be the fact that there is some excitement for the Pack. Or that there are weird news stories like this that are trying to keep the chatter going. Or the Viking fans that whine about their team not being respected if the Vikes aren’t put in the top 5 of the league or behind the Pack (my personal favorite).

All I know is that I’m ready for training camp to start so we can actually see who’s improving and how the team is truly shaping up for this year.

seriously! When THIS is a story, you know its a slllllllow time of year!!!

by TrevorR on Jun 13, 2010 9:34 AM CDT up reply actions

its also taken out of context slightly. He was talking about the CLippers signing Queen James & trying to sort of restart their franchise. A “makeover” if you will has been a very popular tactic for teams, look at the Falcons after drafting Vick when they retooled their uniforms after his 1st year there. Its been done many times and will continue to be done

Packers nearly changed unis back in mid-90s

There was a spate of this back in the mid-to-late 90s:

  • Broncos: orange crush to current
  • Buccaneers: creamsicle to current
  • Rams: classic blue+yellow to current

Ron Wolf nearly did this for the Packers too (as seen here; scroll down about halfway). Thank God that never happened.

The Bucs were the only change that was a clear win (those old creamsicle unis were just awful); the Rams should go back to their classic blue+yellow uniform style, that way there’d be at least one thing about them that didn’t suck.

I really like the metallic gold. I would be okay with the switch. The color in the unis really isn’t gold at all, its clearly a yellow. I think the proposed look is sharp but I know everyone associates us with that yellow color so it would be a big change.

Wow, I actually like the uniform Wolf came up with

I also like how the Packers maintain tradition and stick with old school style uniforms. It’d be cool to see the Pack play with those uniforms though, the green and metallic gold.

Why is this on the front page?

It was one joke amongst many at the tail end of an interview.

All is vanity.

Hey now, don't sleep on the Lions

We beat them twice last year, sure, but they were vastly improved. They actually kinda’ resembled a pro football team. And they’re rebuilding the right way, from the lines out. I, for one, am a little nervous about the D-line they’ve put together. Suh, VandenBosch, and Corey Williams is nothing to sneeze at.

…also, I’m getting a little tired of A-Rodg’s neverending comments. Once was fine, twice was “okay,” but it’s getting old. There’s a fine line between “fun and confident” and “cocky punk.” Rodgers isn’t there yet, but he’s toeing the line. He should get back to talking with his play. …along with maybe his facial hair. I always enjoy seeing what new nutty arrangment he’s grown! hahah I loved it when all the Favre talk was at its peak and he came out with a ridiculous fu-man chu as if to say “I know this is all VERY serious.”

you are right…they are going to start coming around here soon I think. Its just been SO long since they’ve been at all relevant and old habits die hard!

+1

I think their DL will have a good pass rush with Avril as the LE. I do think they will continue to struggle against the run though. They have 2 3 Gap DT’s in Corey Williams and Ndamakong Suh. So they don’t have a true NT. Avril and Vanden Bosch are both speed rushers. I think they is their downfall.

We will be able to run it right up the gut or between the OG and OT. They should be good at defending the run towards the outside though.

Our passing game might hurt though. I expect that DL to get after the QB.

DL

Thats the Schwartz scheme though… Remember he was at Tenn when Haynesworth and vandenbosch got alot of attention. All the DL are asked to do is get upfield and create movement! It seems to work for him at Tenn, as I think they had a top D w/ Haynesworth!!! If Suh can be anything like Haynes the D will be good… Usually DL take a couple years to get the NFL game. Suh has alot to like and could be that kinda player, but alot of DL don’t pan out like hoped. Just depends on how Suh develops and if Williams can be the player he was w/ GB.

by Strohman on Jun 16, 2010 1:25 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah, if Suh plays good, and Williams has anything close to the year he had with us they could be pretty good. When Schwartz has the right guys he has proved to run a tough defense. It definitely helped him in Tennessee having Bulluck though. I’m not sure how good Detroit’s LB corps will be.

Tru Dat...

They do have DeAndre Levy don’t they? Maybe he can be Detroits answer to Bulluck… LOL

by Strohman on Jun 16, 2010 3:03 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah, I think he’s supposed to be their replacement to Sims. Apparently he played alright last season but I still think trading Sims was a bad move. I don’t know how much Peterson has left, and I don’t even know who their weak side guy is going to be.

This is pretty tame "trash talk."

There is a lot worse that goes around the league.
