On Michael Vick's Future
The rumors are circling that the Eagles may release QB Michael Vick after the recent shooting and police investigation following his birthday celebration. This is actually something that could have an impact on the Green Bay Packers because they considered signing him last August and they might have interest again.
My first thought was that it seemed unlikely that they would release him at this time. The Eagles have denied it (for what that's worth) but the rumor is thinly sourced. It's so thin that as far as Jason over at Bleeding Green Nation knows, it could be attributed to something that he might have wrote at his blog. Unless this investigation gets a lot more serious for Vick, which could happen, it seems unlikely that he's going to be released.

Interesting but doubt it would happen
Two reasons why I doubt this would happen.
1. I don’t think the Eagles are going to get rid of him. I think one of the guys at NFL Network said it best: the Eagles are stuck with Vick at this point. For good or ill, the train has sailed on this for the Eagles, and it set off the moment they got rid of McNabb. In Philly the Eagles can just hope that Kolb is going to be good, they need to have some sort of back up, which is what Vick adds to the team. While this may be true in just about any year in that city, this year it’s especially critical since they just got rid of one of the better QB’s in the league. No matter what happens to Vick, the Eagles can’t afford to lose him.
2. I doubt Vick would want to come here. Even this would have two reason for it (I guess I’m in a two reason day today)
2a. Vick doesn’t want to learn something new. As far as I can tell this guy doesn’t really want to go into a place and learn, and that’s really what coming here would be for him. The GB coaches are teachers and they mold QB’s. Vick’s actions show that he has no interest in learning how to be a great QB. If that is the case, why would he want to come here.
2b. Vick wants to be the man. In that case staying in Philly is a great idea since he would get a contending team and possibly beat out a young guy who couldn’t get it done. That’s about as good a situation as you are going to find in starting roles right now in the NFL. After that I would imagine he would head off to a team where he can start such as Buffalo or Jacksonville. For as needed as QB’s are in this league, there aren’t that many starting jobs left really.
Not interested.
It’s not really even him that I dislike, it’s anything that resembles a wildcat. We’ve got no reason to take the ball out of Aaron’s hands unless were winning or losing by 40 points in the 4th.
All is vanity.
Ron Mexico will be fine - he's not going anywhere.
The truth is that the NFL has showns some pretty damn unethical behavior, over all, and releasing Michael Vick would be the same as inviting him to sign with another team.
A bad move, especially without that other QB they had who they released and can no longer leverage good behavior out of Vick with, in the event Kolb goes down.
What was that guy’s name again…? ;)
"Show me a good loser, and I'll show you a loser." - Vince Lombardi
The Eagles are denying the reports that they're considering releasing him,
which I guess is what they would do until announcing such a decision. For what it’s worth, the birthday party was open to the public… whoever bought a ticket. To me that makes this incident less of a reflection on his personal character, just another bad decision. Either way, I can’t see why anyone would want him on the roster.
I wouldnt be to thrilled about it either. But we do need a back up i mean if god forbid something does happen to rodgers were he has to miss a few games i would trust vick over matt flynn to help us win those games.

Ah the interesting question arises
Who would be a better backup? Flynn or Vick?
My answer is Flynn. Flynn would be able to come in off the bench and win a game or two. After that things would get iffy, but that’s the case with most franchises in the league right now. If your starter goes down then you get into a bad spot. Add in Flynn knowing the system and getting better (albeit slowly) each year, the back up situation seems to be in a fine shape.
Vick as a backup would be a problem because he wants to be the starter (so I couldn’t imagine him being happy or putting lots of effort to being a good back up). The other worry would be the temptation to put him out there on gadgets plays. McNabb complained about this last year, that it disrupted the flow of the offense, and as some have pointed out it is a mistake to let the ball get out of Rodger’s hands.
So all in all I see the temptation, but I don’t think it’s worth the effort for this franchise.

Vick over Flynn?
I take Flynn hands down!!! Flynn is a leader and has some moxie… VIck is a front runner. Vick wouldn’t have won a Natl Championship w/ that LSU team!!! Vick is OVER-RATED in just about every way that matters as a QB!
I struggled with this last year
I like Flynn but I haven’t seen that much from him either. He’s an unknown. Vick’s not great (always been overrated), but he’s good enough as a backup that the drop off from Rodgers to Vick wouldn’t be as bad as some backup QB situations around the NFL.
Koren Robinson
I used him as my example last year. They aren’t going to sign anyone they aren’t comfortable having in the locker room, they did believe in Robinson, and if they were willing to sign Robinson I think they’d be willing to sign nearly any player they believed in, no matter his past problems.
Vick
Just cuz Thompson didn’t deny looking into acquiring Vick, doesn’t mean he was interested in doing so!!! I don’t think the Packers were ever interested in Vick!!! Thompson just played the “don’t say anything” line… Vick has none of the skills the Packers desire in their QB’s!!! Accuracy? No!!! Game manager? No… Leadership? Some, in that he can lead when the team is ahead, but when its difficult he shrinks.
Never thought Thompson wanted Vick in the first place and don’t see any reason for that to have changed!!!
The guy was punished, but
I think he’s paid his dues, but he’s still a crap QB. I think i’d take my chances on Flynn.

My ex girlfriend
was one of his bankruptcy attorneys, she used to talk to him weekly when he was in prison.
I tried to get her to ply him for some Eagles@Giants tickets (she lives in NY) but she thought that might’ve been unethical or something.
Damn her and her ethics.
I don't see what the appeal would be...
it would be inviting a circus into town. We don’t need help getting the media here.
Fools
You’d be fools to sign Vick. Unless……..with all things considered……….he’s much better
than your current backup should Rogers go down and……he can be had cheap!
Expectations don't produce!
First,
he isn’t
much better than [our] current backupand second,
he can’t be had cheap enough! :)
