Preseason Game #1 Injuries: Grant and Crabtree Knocked Out
RB Ryan Grant was hit hard on his third carry and stumbled badly thereafter. Greg Bedard tweeted that "[Head Trainer Pepper] Burress said he thought Grant's head cleared quickly." We'll have to wait to see if it's a concussion.
Backup TE Tom Crabtree suffered a hand injury but, according to the same tweet by Greg Bedard, Crabtree will need another x-ray.

browns vs, packers
well, i attended that game and it was pretty much as i suspected. our offense will be one of the better ones in the league this year and the defense will probably be in the middle of the pack,
the good———-rodgers looked really sharpe in his first game action since last year. the pass protection was outstanding and the punters looked like they could actually punt. the run defense looks formidable like last year.
the bad————-grants early fumble, no pass rush once again, not much of a running game,
the ugly——- underwood’s lack of coverage, the blitzes got snuffed once again up the middle, NO pressure on the qb and hawk, once again getting beat by a te for an easy score.
It’s nice to actually have a couple formidable punters isn’t it? I don’t think I ever remember seeing to 50 yard punts in a row from Kapinos. He really was horrid.
Honestly, it looks like we still have a lot of the same problems. The lack of a pass rush hurt but I have some hope since Matthews was out. Surprisingly enough, Justin “I can never play” Harrell provided some good push in passing situations. Even Mike Neal looked pretty good too me.
Can we just bench Hawk? We know what we have with him, and it’s not all that valuable. He’s just too slow from sideline to sideline, and probably couldn’t an offensive lineman if one was to go out on a route. I’d much rather see Chillar start in the middle over him. At least he doesn’t like he has 5 lb. weights in his shoes as he’s trying to cover somebody.

So I watched until probably the beginning of the 3rd quarter and then just couldn’t find another stream.
Anybody have a good 4th quarter? I know Shields showed everyone he probably will never be able to be a returner but how did he look in coverage? What about Gianconmini at RT?
On a side note, I was pretty impressed with Jones and Torbidio (sp?). You can tell Jones beefed up over the summer. I watched him provide a pretty good ball rush, as well as blowing a run play up in the backfield. Hopefully he can keep that up when the regular season rolls around.
observations
I lost the stream about the same time as you. Took me till the 4th qt to get another one… Shields made a nice play on a pass and should have had a pick 6 the way it soundd. He seems to keep making plays in pass D. I noticed Harrell getting some inside push too. Giacomini got beat wide for a sack, but other than that was good. Think he set inside and the guy took a looping outside rush, QB might have held the ball too long too.
Only play I saw of Hawk was getting beat by the TE. Lumpkin and Porter are neck and neck for the last RB spot. Both had some good runs. Porter and Shields both need work catching punts, alot of work… Hope Blackmon is ready for opening game!
Jones made the one good play on the run, but I didn’t see him getting any pressure to speak of. Might have missed it watching Harrell and Neal. But I don’t recall his name mentioned in pass rush.
RERUN
- against #1 looked like a replay of Pittsburgh and AZ to me. Of course we stood pat , so we HAVE what we HAD. The O looks good, the D bad. Special teams sux. I will say that the protection was good.
Burnett
I heard that Burnett made all the D play calls and adjustments when he was in. Collins said he was going to let Burnett do that. And how did Burnett fair? Abysmal… He didn’t play well is what Capers said, thats coach speak for he was crap. Anyone looking forward to Bigby’s return yet? Plus Burnett dove at Hillis’ ankles instead of hitting him?!! What the hell is that??? Just what I was afaid of from Burnett as a rookie safety. Just what his bio said… Not a good or physical tackler! ANd he is overmatched right now making the D calls. Better get better at Both Rook!!! Just what I predicted from Burnett, but he has 4 weeks to change his play!!!
Atari get well soon… We need you!!!
Packer signal calls
The way the Packer defense works the middle linebacker makes the play call based on the offensive player personnel package and he’s relaying that from the sideline. Usually it is AJ Hawk who calls the play. Nick Collins has been making the adjustment(play call) since he was a rookie based on how the recievers are lined up. They let Burnett call the adjustments this game to make him think and hopefully it overloaded his brain this game for the longterm good
I just turned the game on and fast forwarded it and you can see Hawk making the call then they all clapped their hands. At that point all they know is the personnel once they line up(you can line up a thousand ways) the safety being all the way back has the best advantage of seeing the field and makes the adjustments
This is my understanding talking with one of my neighbors and you can see it when your at the game if your watching. I’m sure this is a very fluid situation in that AJ isn’t in their for many personnel groupings and some alignments Collins isn,t in a position to make the proper presnap adjustments
Ohhh, in the huddle yes.
But who cares about the calls in the huddle? Those are changed and the assignments are changed when they see the offensive alignment! Thats the important part!
Yes I watched the 1st half again you can clearly see Hawk making the calls in the huddle and I was able to see Burnett once making a adjustment but he’s not in the screen much just before the snap to see what’s going on. Like I’ve said before when your at the game you can clearly seewhat’s going on. I’m not sure how that works but you can also catch Woodson changing things up.
maybe
hawk can call the plays from the sidelines, because that’s where he belongs. they say he’s assignment sure, but does that matter if he can’t get over to his assignment and actually make a play.
