Hey guys,
A little background: I'm a Giants fan (and writer for SBN's Giants blog, Big Blue View), but also a huge fan of sports history - my bookshelf back home is pretty much overloaded with books filled with old black and white sports photos. I'm currently on a business trip in Milwaukee, which is allowing me to continue my lifelong goal of seeing a game at every MLB stadium - I'm going to Miller Park Wednesday night (and I've got a trip to Coors Field coming up in three weeks).
Unlike MLB, I have no strong desire to see many NFL parks, they pretty much seem a dime a dozen to me. I've been to Giants Stadium a bunch, and as a fan I obviously want to go to the new Meadowlands Stadium, but that's only to see my team play - if that stadium was built in Buffalo I wouldn't care at all. I guess I'd be vaguely curious to see the new Cowboys stadium, but only so I can fantasize about playing Madden on that giant scoreboard. No, for professional football, there's really only one place I've ever had a desire to go, and that's very obviously Lambeau Field. Vince Lombardi, Bart Starr, Paul Hornung, Reggie White, Brett Favre (back when people still liked him), the Ice Bowl, 3 Super Bowl runs, and so much more. You guys know your Packers history better than I do, I'm sure, but for an outsider Lambeau is really the only remaining connection to a football past that's increasingly hard to imagine.
Yesterday, while watching a certain someone dressed in purple, I had a flash of inspiration - I'm in Wisconsin! I could go to Lambeau! I checked the Packers schedule, and sure enough they are playing a pre-season game 4 hours after my conference ends Thursday night. I went to Stub Hub and bought a seat in Section 132 for $20 (sidebar - I know it's only preseason, but these seats would have cost $100 easily at Giants Stadium. My tickets at Miller Park cost me $1 on Stub Hub, for seats that would be $30-40 bucks at Citi Field or Yankee Stadium. I need to move out here!), and am planning on renting a car Thursday afternoon to drive up to Green Bay.
Now, the reason I'm posting all of this: Do you guys have any suggestions for me? How bad is rush hour traffic from Milwaukee to Green Bay - if I leave at 4:30, will that give me enough time to get up there? What's the parking situation at Lambeau, and how much do they charge? Any things I need to make sure to see when I'm there? Any food I need to try or anything like that? Any info you guys give me would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, and good luck this season! I'm on the record here as being a big Aaron Rodgers fan, and if the Giants don't win this year, you guys are the NFC team I'll be rooting for to keep the Cowboys and Eagles (and Redskins, lol) out of the Super Bowl.
