Looking at Injuries Going Into Packers Preseason Game Versus Colts

From Mike McCarthy on Tuesday about injuries:

(Has anyone been ruled out for Thursday?)
Ruled out? Not yet. We’re going to give them all a chance to come back tomorrow.

Since Wednesday's practice wasn't open to the public, I've got no idea how it turned out. It's possible anyone and everyone could play on Thursday, except the three guys who haven't yet passed their physical. I wouldn't expect they'll be too aggressive about getting guys back on the field if they're concerned at all.

As far as the Colts go, Stampede Blue has a good rundown on the players who missed practice this week. Honestly I didn't recognize the names of five players listed. The big names that are not expected to play appear to be C Jeff Saturday and TE Dallas Clark

Seriously.

I’m ready to play Philadelphia in Week One.

I didn't believe it last August, but it turns out that love survives.

The worst thing about the 18 game schedule...

.. is that they’re still going to keep the week after Labor Day as the starting weekend. Or at least that’s what the league wants to do so far. There would only be 2 preseason games, but the month of August is still going to be brutally free of real football. I don’t know why they can’t go back to the old Labor Day weekend startup they had when I was a kid.

BCB free since 8/24/10 and happier for it.

Labor day

They don’t want to start till after labor day cuz on labor day people are on vacition alot. I would imagine the TV ratings were down on that weekend, even though it was opening game… Too many people just aren’t home on labor day.

Maybe...

but the NFL started or years on Labor Day weekend and I don’t think the ratings would be down all that much.

eh its not the date they start on, its how long the preseason games go on. I don’t think it will feel so bad if there are only 2 games to suffer through.

Looks like The Colts have more to worry about there

With Dallas Clark and Saturday gone, there’s 2 of their best offensive players right there. Now if Clay Matthews is healthy, then they really got something to worry about. As far as our guys, from what I heard Burnett is doing a decent job filling in for Video Game and maybe Tramon Williams can fill in for the loss of Harris for now. As long as it’s NOT Jarett Bush, it might be all good. We’ll see come gametime.

I'm looking forward to this one...

it looks like Bush and Donald lee are getting less playtime…that means more playing time for Shields, Quarless and Crabtree…that should be kinda cool. And maybe more Newhouse and zombo, test these guys agianst first teamers. Should be fun.

I’m going to be keying on number 91 J Harrell, looks like he had a tough game against Seattle. Hope he rebounds and makes the team.

I’m gonna watch Harrell too. He looked quite good in our first game. Hopefully he’ll step it up tonight.

Zombo might actually start the game from what i’ve heard. Doesn’t sound like Jones is ready yet, at least not that i’ve read. He’s the guy IMO, that could step up and become a good compliment to Matthews. He needs experience in coverage, but seems to have better pass rush ability than Jones. At least thats what I see. Doubt he would start this season but maybe he can replace Jones mid-season, if he continues his growth and knowledge of the D.

Newhouse should play a good part of the game too. I think he’s already made the team unless he collapses in this game.

You were right on Zombo stroh! The kid can rush the passer. He looked good against the Colts starting OT’s. He’s got a decent bull rush, and it looks like he uses his hands pretty well. If Jones doesn’t impress, I could really see Zombo being the starter. I know it sounds crazy but the guy is a football player.

Give me a heaping helping of some ZOMBO!!!

And start him over Jones right now… He’s already made more plays vs good OT than Jones did all last year! AND for a kicker he made a game changing play vs. Peyton Manning of all people, another thing Jones didn’t do all last year!

I was trying not to get too excited and put him ahead of Jones already, but screw that!! Zombo should be the starting OLB along w/ Matthews vs Philly!

by Strohman on Aug 27, 2010 2:12 AM CDT up reply actions

You called it...

You were all over Zombo before the game, and you’ve been vindicated!

by PackFaninFL on Aug 27, 2010 9:40 AM CDT up reply actions

He’s certainly been impressive. It’s nice to know that we now have 3 capable outside backer’s as opposed to just Matthews and Jones. I could see him starting if Jones doesn’t impress in this last preseason game.

Gotta agree here

Zombo deserves the starting spot at OLB opposite of Clay. He has a good pass rush and can stop the run.
