SB Nation's 2010 NFL Preview Of The Green Bay Packers
Below is an excerpt from a lengthy preview of the 2010 season for the Green Bay Packers. My entire preview is posted at SBNation.com:
The team is relatively healthy and playing with a lot of confidence so far this preseason. Predictions of a Super Bowl appearance have been written about in many publications and for good reason: this is a very good football team.

Agree with the 13-3, are defense has a couple question marks that can’t be answered until we have all our starting players on the field and run schemes that are game plan specific. IMO those questions will be answered. Also it is my belief that when the time comes we will be on the winning side of those shootouts that we seemed to lose last year. Our offense is going to be something special and be fun to watch
If we went 13-3
I’d be ecstatic. I just want to make the playoffs, because I know this team can beat anyone in the NFL on any given Sunday.
Considering our schedule though, 13-3 is wildly optimistic in my opinion.

13-3 wildly optimistic?
Looking at the schedule… assuming everyone stays reasonably healthy, and they play at the same level as last year, I can see the Pack getting to 12 wins (7 home, 5 road). A couple balls bouncing the right way could easily make that 13 wins.
Of course, this all assumes that the pass defense is going to do their job, and the offense won’t have to score 46 points every week to win a game…

Is it just me or does Jmike need to wear a cup?
Also, don’t bring that prediction to FO, as their comments section will enjoy belittling you and will generally act like arrogant assholes towards any opinion that carries any hint of fan bias. I’m expecting 12-4 or 11-5. It would be nice to have an elite level record but the defense just wont carry them that way. Of course things happen and predicting record before a single play is quite a risky proposition.
All is vanity.
Tougher Schedule
Two plays cost the Packers the divisional title last year. Early in the season, Favre hit Sidney Rice with a desperation 4th down heave against the Niners to pull out a last second win. The Packers lost to the Steelers on a similar last second throw. If those balls fall incomplete, the Packers win the division despite the two losses to the Vikings.
I think 11-5 will win the division. In 2009, the Packers and Vikings played the 31st and 32nd easiest schedules based on opponent records. That definitely changes this year. The Packers need to get off to a 5-1 or 6-0 start as the early games are the easy part of their schedule. The Vikings, meanwhile, face a murderers’ row the first month and a half. The Pack needs a 2 or 3 game cushion after those first half dozen games.
Good review of the team in the SB Nation article. I agree with the comments about Slocum; why he wasn’t fired and Bobby April pursued is beyond me.
I'd say 12-4, although 13-3 would be nice.
And I’m not gonna call the Pack Super Bowl contenders as of yet…. we need better pass coverage first, then we’ll talk.
