It's regress to the mean week in the NFL....

… and the Vikes are gonna crush the Lions.

I think.

Unless of course Brett decides to throw 4 picks.

Secondary is a weak point for the Lions

Favre might decide to throw 4 picks, but that doesn’t mean the Lions will catch them!

I've got the choice of Lions-Vikings

Or Giants-Titans (aren’t those the same thing?). They will both lose to the Cubs home closer at 1:20, though. Sorry NFL, but nothing you can show in Week 3 is gonna make me miss baseball any less.

Not sure I understand your statement

How does Allen Barbre relate to a ridiculous statement about Jared Allen being overated?…. I seem to remember AR being on his back against a much lesser D line in your first two games. Not sure I get this whole Allen Barbre suggestion.

by PurpleJesus on Sep 26, 2010 8:32 PM CDT up reply actions

Go look at last year's stats and tell me he didn't pad against bad opponents

7.5 of his sacks came against us and our line was a sieve almost all last year. Besides those, he has seven in fourteen games. I’m sorry but the guy is hugely overrated.

1) He plays next to possibly the best DT combo in the league. Now that the wall is starting to break down, Allen has what? One sack in three games? Plus, that sack was hardly impressive.

2) He’s one dimensional. He gets sacks, that’s it. Because of his over pursuit on every play, he is worthless in run defense.

3) This has nothing to do with his play but he’s a giant tool bag. Everything he does or says is so tired and lame. 69? Haha hilarious. A mullet? What a crazy guy. That retarded sack dance? What a douche.

Now again, please tell me the last time Jared Allen showed up in a game where he wasn’t playing a slowly dying Green Bay offensive line?

by Charlie Kelly on Sep 26, 2010 8:55 PM CDT up reply actions

Look..

Not here to piss in your Wheatie’s… You guys are better than us this year so I am not here to start any crap… Wouldn’t if we were ahead either….

But, JA overated? No! Not even close. In fact, the statement in itself shows how stupid it is….

Facts: Probowler (every year) who has more sacks over the last 3 years than anyone in the NFL. Hustles, non stop every play, makes tackles all over the field and makes the line what it is. They were nothing before he came here.

Can he be stopped by bigger NFL linemen with good footwork and some quick reactions over certain games? Of course he can. So can every other DE in the NFL in any given game.

Look, we have a LOT of Overated players on our team. JA isn’t one of them…

by PurpleJesus on Sep 26, 2010 9:06 PM CDT up reply actions

I think the Williams wall is more essential to that line than Allen is

As you can see with Phat’s decline. Sure they looked alright today but that was against the Lions (I don’t care how many people hop on that bandwagon, they are still the Lions) But oh well, we’ll just have to agree to disagree because I feel that he almost always stat pads when playing lesser teams and you disagree. Neither of us will change the others mind. I will say though, I don’t think I’ve ever seen him have a good game against a top tier LT.

by Charlie Kelly on Sep 26, 2010 9:15 PM CDT up reply actions

I guess all fo the NFL analysts and me are wrong

And you, and a few Packer fans are right. Logical….

And, Phat Pat is defintely overated. Too old and does nothing for us anymore. Jimmy Kennedy plays much better than Pat.

by PurpleJesus on Sep 26, 2010 9:33 PM CDT up reply actions

Analysts are as susceptible (and often enough more so) to relying on stereotypes and hype as anyone.

There is no doubt that Jared Allen is a good player. But there are a lot of great pass-rushing DEs and I don’t think he’s any better than the rest of them.

by Omaha Sun on Sep 26, 2010 11:07 PM CDT up reply actions

Well...

The measure for DE’s is sacks. He did it before coming to Minnesota (led the league) and has continued since having the most in the NFL since coming to the Vikes.

In all honesty, I am very objective when it comes to my team. And in this case, he makes the line better, not the other way around. We were a less than average line with the Williams wall before he came. Now, Pat Williams is made to look good when he is actually less than average.

As I said before, we have a lot of overated players, it is just JA isn’t one of them. Cocky maybe, not overated…

by PurpleJesus on Sep 27, 2010 6:52 AM CDT up reply actions

He’s a good defensive end just not what a lot of Vikings fans make him out to be. He’s probably top 5 in my opinion just not the best like I seem to hear so often. I’d take Freeney, Williams, Mathis, and Peppers over him in a second. Those guys all do more then just speed rush, and those guys don’t disappear in big games.

by packallday555 on Sep 27, 2010 6:52 PM CDT up reply actions

I’d agree top 5. It is hard to say who is “best” unless you say who you would build your team around. I would take any of them, except Peppers. He can disappear for seasons at a time.

by PurpleJesus on Sep 27, 2010 8:41 PM CDT up reply actions

How 'bout we bet an official NFL jersey

You can’t keep him without a sack on Oct 24?

by PurpleJesus on Sep 26, 2010 8:14 PM CDT up reply actions

Of course he'll get a sack

He’ll be against either…

A) A veteran who’s best years are far behind him.

B) A rookie who shows promise, but is still a rookie.

C) God forbid, Darren Colledge.

by Charlie Kelly on Sep 26, 2010 8:59 PM CDT up reply actions

I see...

And the rest of the NFL doesn’t line up against these same three options. JA just always gets the bottom of the barrel.

Again, not here to start crap…. Saying JA is overated is an uneducated statement, sorry. You would take him in a minute!

by PurpleJesus on Sep 26, 2010 9:08 PM CDT up reply actions

50 sacks last year

and not all of them are Jared Allen’s. Plenty of guys padded their stat totals against the Pack line last year.

No, I would not take Jared Allen. We’re running the 3-4 now, and we saw what happene trying to convert a DE to an OLB last year. Kampman wasn’t so great last year, and he skipped town this summer.

Yes he’s a very good player and yes he’s over-rated.

by Omaha Sun on Sep 26, 2010 11:10 PM CDT up reply actions

LOL

Mentioned consistently by people more qualified than you or I as the “best” DE in the game. Not my fault your team can’t double team him effectively to shut him down like many others are.

And yes, he doesn’t fit the 3-4 so I get that. Still doesn’t take away from what he has accomplished against any NFL offensive line. Many other teams play that same Packers line. How many walked away with the quantity of sacks JA did? Answer: None.

by PurpleJesus on Sep 28, 2010 8:03 AM CDT up reply actions

Yes, he’s overrated. He got 7 of his sacks against two back-up players against us. Whoop’te’do! The fact of the matter is he piles up his numbers against lesser players, and virtually disappears against good ones.

He’s also weak against the run. So yeah, he’s overrated.

by packallday555 on Sep 27, 2010 6:48 PM CDT up reply actions

Now you are way off

But frankly I don’t care any more… The fact he apparently irks you tells me that you know he’s good. Also, maybe you should look at tackles for loss before making such an absurd statement? Plus he changes games! But whatever….

by PurpleJesus on Sep 27, 2010 8:46 PM CDT up reply actions

Oh, and I'll remind you

Aside from the holding call that took the Lions out of FG position....

… I’m not saying the refs are making bad calls. But the Vikings are getting bailed out by the refs in this game. That’s the second TO the Lions have lost to a penalty, and both times the foul was there, but could have been overlooked.

The Vikings are lucky to be winning this game, imo. They’re the better team, but the way they’re playing, this could easily be a game the Lions are up by 7 or 10 in right now.

Not the end of the world. I mean who REALLY expected them to lose to the Lions? Until Rice gets back, the Vikings offense is really gonna be hurting. And they’ll really be hurting against any team that can generate a good pass rush against them, which doesn’t look very difficult to do.

They weren't as bad as they thought at 0-2.

They didn’t really play any better today than they did the last two weeks. They were just playing a worse team. The Vikings are dangerous. They’ve got a lot of talent and if they figure things out they’re going to be very good. But they didn’t figure things out today. They played poorly (except for Peterson, who was fantastic), but they got bailed out of 3 turnovers and the Lions showed that, while better than they were, they still don’t know how to win.

Cardinals are redefining bombing out of the playoffs...

Maybe Koa Misi and Jared Odrick would be Patriots if Bill Parcells wasn't Comedic.Sans's father...

Their starting pitching has had to be outstanding

I thought the Cubs had some butchers on defense – sheesh.

I feel really bad for my friend.

He’s a St. Louis sports fan. Hopefully the Rams can win today to brighten his weekend.

TD Manning.

Can’t make those mistakes against the Colts.

All the good games ended

I’m stuck watching Kyle Orton in panic mode. Not pretty.

Isn't any game with Kyle Orton as the quarterback

considered panic mode, especially when The Tebow is the 2nd string QB?

My very thoughtful GF bought brats

But no brat buns – I’m taking a shot at making them myself. Any tips from anyone on that?

My dad might have some suggestions...

Sorry. I’m not in a mood for food given A) I just ate dinner and B) I’ve got a nasty throat ache and a nose stuffier than Charles Woodson’s pass coverage…

Ha!

Seattle up again after a 99-yd KO return. That may win me $50 at my favorite bar.

And there's the victory

All I need now is a Jets win tonight, and the $50 bar tab is mine.

Of course, I have to figure out a way to get back to San Francisco to take advantage of it…

Christ

Who’d be a Raiders fan, eh?

Every week they find new and more unlikely scenarios from which to snatch a defeat. You’d need a heart of stone not to laugh…

But their fans are truly classy

In both defeat and victory. Well, I’m sure they’d be classy in victory if ever given an opportunity.

They were certainly classy against Farve

after the death of his father.

Their players were even classier

For so respectfully declining to cover Packers receivers so that Farve could throw for like 400 yards. That was such an awesome night.

The PA system at Sun Life Stadium is ridiculously loud

I’ll not be planning to attend a game there any time soon.
