No panicing here...
I am just PISSED OFF! Pathetic performance from a team that should be above this kind of awful performance.
Yeah, thats how I feel as well
I can get over the loss, more games to be won, but the way they played below their level really upset me.

Silver lining
At least the penalties are correctable. I’m not even too angry about the blocked FG (Peppers is insane at those). If we want to go far though, we will need to have some semblance of a run game.
The Bills are reportedly listening
to offers for Lynch, again.

I have never spent so much time during a Packers game yelling at my own team. Pretty disgraceful from a group of guys that want to be considered Super Bowl contenders.

He's playing here in Omaha right now...
and can’t sign with a team until the UFL season is over (7 more games).
But I fully expect him to be back sporting the Green and Gold as soon as he finishes leading the Nighthawks to a UFL championship.
In the words of Verbal Kint...
I believe in God, and the only thing that scares me is Mike McCarthy. We have a superbowl caliber team and a coach who is below mediocre. I am not even talking about the penalties, but his in game management is just not up to the class of this team. I panic because this coach will cost us a shot at glory.
The biggest blunder last night, except of course for the boneheaded penalties, was McCarthy’s horrible challenge after JJ fumbled. That was as clear a fumble as one can have, the ball was nowhere near out of bounds, and that timeout he wasted would have enabled us to get the ball back with 44 seconds, not zero seconds left.

Thome Walks-Off Sox, Twists Knife, Continues To Make Sox Brass Look REALLY Stupid - White Sox Season Recap
Cowher is going to come w/ a huge price tag
and possibly some form of player control. Look at how many teams have wanted him recently and he’s said no to.
If (and I stress IF cause I’m not off the MM wagon yet) we are looking for a new coach the only name that really comes to my mind of someone I’d want would be Gruden… Ya know, if he’d take time to stop salivating over Peppers and coach
by Goldenarmadillo4 on Sep 28, 2010 5:09 PM CDT up reply actions
Cowher wants a winner
Hence the reason he said no to many teams. Was he ever offered the Colts or the Saints job?
This team is built to win NOW…can’t have a coach F it up big time…ain’t no Aaron Rodgers or Drivers or Jennings or Finleys growing on trees, ya know?
MM is another Mike Sherman (who I still blame for that 2005 loss to the Eagles), good enough coach but not a winner. He does not have the guts or the IQ to win in NFL. He’s good enough to take you to the playoffs, but he doesn’t have that winning edge that puts coaches over the top. It’s all the little things I’ve seen on the field over the years that makes me a non believer. I don’t think MM has got it.
Cowher takes this team to the promised land. He’s used to winning and has guts to call the right play in a crucial time.

This team was not built to “Win Now.” This team was built to possibly win this year, do better next year and the years after.
The Vikings were built to “Win Now.” “Win Now” means “We’re putting everything we have into this one season and if it doesn’t work out we’re f*ed.”

It's too early to jump to that conclusion
Under Mike Sherman, our team never really improved. it was always about the same. It was an alright team, good enough to make the playoffs, but never a serious Superbowl contender. Frequent misses on draft picks helped contribute to this mediocrity. Finally, it fell apart in 2005 having an aging team, salary cap issues, and a lack of confidence in the coaching staff was probably a big issue as well.
Under Mike McCarthy, our team has gradually improved. He started out rebuilding in 2006 with a new team fresh off the “spring cleaning” of the depth chart. We finished that year winning our final 4 games and going 8-8 on the year. In 2007 we made huge strides in the WR corp, which contributed to one of Favre’s best years and we reached the NFC Championship, finishing the Regular Season 13-3. 2008 would be considered a rebuilding year to several experts considering our change at QB, which is never an easy transition. Although the QB play was better than experts thought, our team was devastated with injuries and had a set back year going 6-10. 2009 we were back on track again with our young emerging franchise QB going 11-5. Now we have what many experts are considering a “Superbowl Contending Team.” We have a lot of work to do in order to accomplish that goal, but it goes to show the steady improvement under the McCarthy tenure. This team is young, talented, and improving. It’s far from being in “Built to win now.” It would be nice considering the age of our CB’s in Charles Woodson and Al Harris, but with the centerpieces of Bryan Bulaga, Aaron Rodgers, Greg Jennings, BJ Raji, and Clay Mathews, it is ridiculous to think they will suddenly not be good anymore. This team will continue to get better. 5 years from now will be a better time to evaluate McCarthy as the Head Coach. He has a young team yet, so be patient.

Game management poor
But bringing up Rodgers? Five stars.

Overreacting
While I’m not condoning the challenge, as it was pretty foolhardy, to claim that McCarthy will cost us a shot at glory is a little over the top. This is a guy that took a 4-12 team to the NFC Championship game in two years and then, after losing a star player, didn’t miss a step and still kept his team a contender.
The challenge didn’t cost us the game. The penalties did. Stupid personal fouls and pass interference calls cannot happen.
Not Happy
Not at all happy w/ all the penalties, but this game was over as soon as Urlacher made the play stripping Jones of the ball. The timeout was a really bad decision, but what are the chances the Packers drive 75 yds w/ 45 sec left in the game? Below slim and next to non-existent!!!
not 75 yds...
Don’t forget we need only 3 pts….
by Rodgers_for_MVP on Sep 28, 2010 12:28 PM CDT up reply actions
I’m not saying Lovie Smith is a genius either, cause with 1:40 to go and one timeout left for GB they should have taken three knees at the 9 yd line and kicked the FG. But one could have seen this coming when our boneheaded coach burned that second timeout on a stupid stupid challenge.
by Rodgers_for_MVP on Sep 28, 2010 1:17 PM CDT up reply actions
Who's to say Forte doesn't then pull an MJD and sit down on the 1 yd line?!!!
No matter how the Packers chose to play it, the bears had the ability to run all the time off the clock… Its not as easy as saying let him score! Always other variables that you didn’t think of if they do that.
Push his ass across the line! :P

overreacting?
It’s time to face the reality. The Packers of 2010 cannot lose to the Bears of 2010. When we should have finished them off, we didn’t. When we should kept our cool, we didn’t.
That challenge was McCarthy panicking. This team is too good not to make the playoffs but my fear is that they will be a much bigger chance in a much brighter spotlight in January and this coach is going to screw it up.
by Rodgers_for_MVP on Sep 28, 2010 12:36 PM CDT up reply actions
I don't know that McCarthy necessarily panicked,
it’s just as likely – in fact, probably more so – that he got bad advice from the guys upstairs. On the other hand it’s his job to know the situation, and with the Bears having the ball at the Packer 40 and only needing another 15 yards or so to give Gould a shot, risking that timeout probably wasn’t the wisest move.
I think the Packers handled the ends of both halves very poorly. The Packers had the ball at the end of the first half on their own 42 with 26 seconds and a timeout. More than enough time for Rodgers to hit a couple big passes and get the team into field goal range. instead, we see a play where Rodgers runs around for 15 seconds, a run into the line, and then a heave into the end zone that got knocked down. Seeing as how the Bears had just scored, getting a field goal there would have been nice, and would have sent the team into the locker room with some momentum.
At the end of the game, with only one timeout and the Bears at the Packer nine-yard line, the play there is to let them score. Keep your timeout, and give Rodgers a chance.
Guys like you piss me off! No matter what he does you think its the wrong call/tactic. Like 08 NFC Championship! He gets called out for not running more, but if he does you yell at the TV and say “Why the hell is he beating his head against a wall and running when its not working?”
Doesn’t matter in the least what he does… You are compelled to critisize it!! If your so brilliant why aren’t you coaching? Oh… forgot… Your not so brilliant!
you should take anger management
It’s done miracles for Carlos Zambrano for example. Made him a pitcher again.
I don’t want to start arguing with you dude. Let me just say that I really hope this team is good enough to overcome the shortcomings of its coach.

Count me as another who disagrees with your opinion of McCarthy.
You may not like the way he says it, but I agree with Strohman’s points (including those of the exclamation variety, btw. lol).
Let me guess.
You were one of those who wanted TT to hire Childress, right?

The glass is way, way, way more than half-full.
As far as I am concerned,
it is still too early even to make that comparison.
As Jabooty pointed out above, five yrears from now would be a better time for such a comparison.
Or, maybe even longer.
What if Peyton never wins another?
Hell, Holmgren didn’t.
Just think.
McCarthy only has to win two (in spite of himself, in the minds of those who will never give him credit for anything, lol) to be a better coach than Holmgren. :)

The glass is way, way, way more than half-full.
which comes back to coaching
he has no discipline in his team. i say drop him to OC and atleast offer the job to cower or bring in Gruden. or look for other coaches that are not HCs currently (remember how hot Garret was for a year or so. im not saying he is the answer but you get my point) look at Tomlin he replaced cower and kept winning, or how about Caldwell with the colts who took them to the SB in his first year harbough over in Baltimore isn’t doing to bad either. or the guy from Atlanta (cant think of his name at the moment) there are coaches out there. just gotta look. i really wish we would have gotten Sean Peyton when he wanted the GB job…
I prefer the old school version

Packers
Hey, they weren’t going undefeated, they just now have to win a game most of us thought they might not win.
"It's 4th and inches and the Giants are going for it. You gotta love sports!"
Another thing to remember is
that the Broncos started out last year in similar fashion – even being given a game by bad officiating – and they ended up somewhere around 8-8.
Not panicking ...
Here’s what I basically saw:
1. The Packers could move the ball almost at will – it appeared that the Bears were absolutely committed to stopping the big play (hence Jennings only getting two catches int he game). Rodgers was patient enough to take what was underneath. However, the Bears (correctly) guessed that the Packers would make enough mistakes to stop themselves – the flase starts and holding calls were really what stopped the Pack. We saw how badly this O-line struggled last year, but over time I believe it will improve, especially as Bulaga is incorporated into it.
2. There were at least two different plays in which chance conspired to hurt the Pack – sometimes these things can’t be helped. The fumble near the end of the game bounces out of bounds probably 9 of 10 times – I’m still shocked that it stayed. The penalty on Zombo was one of those calls that tend to happen – I believe you can’t try to take the aggressiveness out of your players. It just happened at the worst possible time.
3. On the other hand – the sheer volume of penalties was inexcusable. However, this can be corrected. This was a defense that started 3 rookies tonight, there are bound to be some growing pains. I think the defense will be downright nasty by the end of the year.
4. Ultimately, these games happen – the Saints had one this week, the Vikings had one in last year’s NFC Championship. I’d rather have it be now, so the team can develop soem resiliency for the future.
I know 18 is an anomaly
but this penalty thing should’ve been correct 2 or 3 years ago instead we consistantly rank at the bottom (or is it top) in penalties and penalty yards

I would not worry
It is one game. Everything can be fixed in practice imo.
"Sorry bro, he Jason Bourned me"- Drama
They have had 4 years to fix it. if they havn’t fixed it in four years what makes you think they will fix it now?
They only allowed a total of 3 penalties combined in weeks 1-2 though, right?
If I heard that correctly, it’s a little premature to conclude this season is ruined with injuries already. Hopefully it gets corrected, but the first couple games were relatively clean of injuries. If it happens next week, I will be concerned.

That’s how I look at it too. Special teams and penalties were supposed to be a major focus this offseason, and while we looked better the first couple of weeks, we sure didn’t look good last night. We looked like the same undisciplined team that we’ve been in past years.
