CUT DOWN OPEN THREAD

Shouldn't be a fan post, but I'm not a mod so...

Star-divide

Silverstein's Twitter account indicates they're trying to trade Havner.  Chery's gone.  They've turned down offers for Spitz and plan on keeping him.  Dillon's gone.  Talley's gone, though they might try to sign him to the practice squad.  Toribio's apparently in the same boat.  Giacomini practiced this morning.  Underwood and Blackmon did not, though that's probably due to injuries.  Both punters were still around this morning.

Anyone hearing anything else?  I'm still making the rounds so their might be more info out there.

If Havner's out, that means Quarles is going to stick, probably.  Lee too, though I don't think there was ever much doubt of that.  Crabtree's probably destined for the practice squad.

No word on the FB's yet.

PG says Blackmon is gone...

… I’m a little surprised by that. His shoulder must be bad enough to keep him out a month or so, at least.

But who's the return guy then?

Mr. Ordinary…. I mean, Jackson?

Shields and Jackson I guess. They need to figure that out this week I guess.

by TheSwish on Sep 4, 2010 2:45 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah

How could they release Chery who also fumbled but at least showed something by returning a punt for a TD but keep Shields doing the same thing? Doesn’t make much sense to me.

I agree

It’s either Blackmon or Chery returning punts. Jackson is a kickoff return man, but that’s it.

maybe

the coaches see something in practices that we don’t. I’m sorry to see Havner go.

by bigbill992001 on Sep 5, 2010 6:46 AM CDT up reply actions

Probably because he can consistently catch it. (Not a good enough reason too me.)

I’m disappointed we got rid of Blackmon. He looked good to me returning punts when he played this preseason.

me too

i mean how much money did we save cutting him with an injury settlement vs. putting him on pup and seeing if he could get better.

by jpulido on Sep 6, 2010 6:16 PM CDT up reply actions

No idea but it couldn’t have been that much, and the difference between he and Nelson/any other option is night and day. When healthy Blackmon is one of the best punt returners in the league.

Maybe we’ll find a waiver gem. There was one dropped by Buffalo and a few others that I saw when scanning the cuts.

Word is...

Lumpkin will be cut, which means they will be keep three FBs.

Good God

that’s dissapointing. but i guess they are pinning their hopes on this Starks guy

Ugh.

Starks should be IR fodder. My guess is they’re counting Kuhn as the #3HB in their heads and using that to justify the ridiculous 3FB decision.

I think you're right

And here I was pinning my hopes on a great season, and I’m already dissapointed…..

Meh, I’ll probably get over it by tomorrow morning. haha.

BLACK SATURDAY

Allen Barbre: HE GONE. I haven’t seen Jarrett Bush’s name pop up yet here.

I want Zombo to stay.

by vitaminx on Sep 4, 2010 2:37 PM CDT reply actions

Word is

Zombo made the team.

Jaruis Wynn on the other hand, did not.

Evan Dietrich-Smith won’t be on the roster either, one way or another.

by TheSwish on Sep 4, 2010 2:39 PM CDT up reply actions

Barbre is also on his way out, supposedly.

Spencer Havner gone!

Noo :( I always liked watching him even from his days at UCLA. Too many TEs already, I suppose.

Cut?

Or is it the same report saying they’re trying to swing a deal with him?

Same report

But for all intents and purposes, gone whether by trade or cut. Shame, this was a guy who would score a touchdown and then go right to special teams doing kick coverage after and play LB. He would do anything the coaches asked of him and worked his tail off and caught a lot thrown his way.

by vitaminx on Sep 4, 2010 2:42 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah, I liked him too.

He didn’t help himself with that offseason incident, and the writing was sort of on the wall when they started playing him at LB again.

So here's the tally so far

DT Anthony Toribio cut, likely to be on practice squad.
DE Ron Talley. Don’t even know the guy, but he’s also practice squad fodder.
WR Charles Dillon gone.
WR/KR Jason Chery gone. No other kick returners on the roster. Shields?
LB/TE/GRIDIRON MAN Spencer Havner gone. Shame.

Notable no-cuts so far: Worst player in the NFL Jarrett Bush, Jason Spitz (good! he shouldn’t be going anywhere!), Giacomini, one of the two punters. I think Masthay has the edge on Bryan right now.

by vitaminx on Sep 4, 2010 2:46 PM CDT reply actions

Also

“Evan Dieteich-Smith was told he’ll be released if Packers can’t trade him.” (per Bedard) So that’s leaving open the question of who exactly the long snapper is going to be.

And LB Alex Joseph is gone.

by vitaminx on Sep 4, 2010 2:48 PM CDT up reply actions

Bush is going to stay...

… barring an unlikely deal for another CB. They don’t have the guys on the roster to let him go, and I doubt that Ted will find someone he likes better on the waiver wire, regardless of what I think.

I mean really, if Ted would just pick up the phone, call me, and do what I say, he’d be much better off. :P
