Cyril Obiozor.  Opinions?

Hello Packer fans.  The Cardinals picked up Cyril Obiozor off of waivers.  They are hurting for OLB depth and need a quality player to put in the rotation, not just a practice squad body.  What are your opinions on this guy?  Can he be a contributor?  He could end up with a lot of playing time with the Cardinals if he pans out.  Anything you can tell us about Obiozor, good or bad, would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Obi

The coaches loved the guy, he was a project for our LB coaches and they kept him around last season even though he was raw raw raw! This year his spot as the young project with a lot of potential was stolen by a guy named Zombo…who might (as you said about Obi) end up seeing lots of time on the field. Most of us in here really liked Obi but had a hunch he could be a casualty this year. We wish him the best. He’s a hard worker and is a great project. I don’t know that he’s ready to be a regular contributor but you’ve got a solid guy who knows how to play the game. Congrats, I hope he does well for you guys.

Takes some BALLS to just CAN your former 1st rounder with NO compensation and no one to really take his place. I hope that doesn’t come back to bite you guys too much. You might knocked us out of the playoffs, but I’ve always liked cheering for the Cards.

Leinart?

We’ve got last year’s worst QB in the league and an undrafted rookie back up. What’s there to worry about? Thanks for responding . Appreciate the knowledge. The Cardinals starting OLBs are Joey Porter and Clark Haggans, both 33 yrs old. The only depth they had before bringing on Obiozor was Will Davis. Unless they get another body that means Obi will be seeing play time.

Live in Phx, but born in GB.

So I watch both teams alot… Obi is a decent prospect as an OLB. Has the physical tools, but lacks any instincts for the game. Always seems a step slow, not due to speed but cuz he can’t anticipate whats coming or see it coming! I don’t think the light will ever go on for him. He was the same at Texas A&M… Decent enough backup, but don’t see him ever making plays or being a good pass rusher.

Lienart as I’m sure your aware got in Whisenhunts doghouse. Max Hall has alot of Moxie and is alot like Matt Flynn. Excellent leader but marginal talent. Both are likely to be career backups and well respected backup. The other QB???, has a talented arm if he can’ learn the game he could be a long term answer at QB. Anderson is pretty much a stopgap starter, IMO.

Still making the transition to LB

He was a college DE so I’ve seen some improvement from him in coverage and in the open field. Appears to be a sound tackler. He doesn’t provide much pass rush despite playing DE in college. He’s a high energy guy who could give you an exciting play or two on special teams or in a limited role on defensive. I’d be disappointed if he was my everyday starter. But if depth is a real problem, having a fundamentally sound LB who stands tall at 6’4" might be a help to you right now.

Thank you.

I was hoping you would say he was a sack machine but that was a bit much to hope for wasn’t it. ;-)

If he was a sack machine he wouldn't be leaving town

OLB is one of those positions we are light at as well. You should hear how much people worry about our pressure on the QB around here.

Same worries here.

At least from the OLB position. We were pretty good at getting sacks last season but they were spread out among the defense. I think 8 was the most any individual had. Still looking for a dominant edge rusher to scare the pants off the opposing QB. We’re counting on Joey Porter to still have it. It was only 2 seasons ago he had 17 sacks.

I didn’t figure any one picked off waivers would be too amazing. Honestly just hoping he’s serviceable in rotation for now.

Campbell and Dockett

Are far better 34 DE than what the Packers have and are ideal 34 DE… Both have some pass rush, where we’re still mostly using 43 DT from the old regime. Thats great vs the run but sucks is pass rush! Only one of our DE that really good as a 34 DE in Jenkins. Pickett is a true NT having to play DE. Our young guys from the draft are the future DE. Neal and Wilson have some abiltiy to help in pass rush down the road.

With good reason.

BCB free since 8/24/10 and happier for it.

No doubt

Hens why if Obi was a silver bullet for sacks he probably wouldn’t of been shown the door.

He's got an awesome name

Cyril got lost in the depth we have here. I don’t see him as much more then a Special Teams guy this year, but he could get extended playing time later in the year and into next season.
