In 2008, when Brett Favre was traded to the New York Jets, we recieved a fourth round pick with the option that if he completed certain tasks, the pick would grow as follows:
1st Round - Plays in 80% of the plays and Jets make the Super Bowl
2nd Round - Plays in 70% of the plays and Jets make the playoffs
3rd Round - Plays in 50% of the plays
Needless to say, we recieved the 3rd Round pick. I was curious who we selected with the 3rd Round pick and was suprised to find the following:
On draft day the New England Patriots and Green Bay Packers had a trade. Green Bay gave up a 2nd Round (41st overall used on Darius Butler), and two 3rd Round (73rd overall, traded to Jacksonville, who selected Derek Cox and 83rd overall used to select Brandon Tate.)
The 83rd pick was the Brett Favre pick, and it was used on Brandon Tate. Yet even better than that was what New England gave us. We recieved the a 1st Round (26th overall used to select Clay Matthews) and a 5th round selection (162nd overall used to select Jamon Meredith)
So in closing, I just want to thank the Jets and Brett for helping us get Clay Matthews. Even though we traded away the Brett Favre pick so New England could pick up Brandon Tate, we recieved Clay Matthews and we have been better ever since.
