What Fran Tarkenton thinks......
Disclaimers first:(1) I'm not trying to pull a chicken -little here, but my optimisum is being tempered by the following (below disclaimer). (2) consider the source- an ex NFL QB, but a Viqueen QB that is clearly supporting Pitt next week. (end disclaimer)
Fran Tarkenton was on Atlanta radio this morning saying that Arod is hurt and that he won't be effective next week. He focused on the shoulder injury occuring on the first TD run where he supposedly winced after scoring (i never saw that). He cited the ineffectiveness for the rest of the game as his primary proof. he went on to say he has had the same exact injury and it takes a long time to recover - no way he is close to 100% next week.
My rebutal is that rodgers led them on another TD drive right after that and any ineffectivness was more apparent after the Peppers hit than from the hit on the TD run.
I don't doubt that Rodgers felt the hit the next day, but two weeks is hopefully enough time to recover and Fran is full of it. First of all, each injury is slightly different and for him to determine the exact severity of the injury is ridicoulous. Again, he probably hates GB, and he really likes to hear himself talk (he opines on anything Farve or remotely conected to him).
I still think GB has the better team and they will show it on Sunday, but this got me thinking a little.

Nah..
Watched the replay last night…it still seems like Rodgers had enough zing on the ball. Few days of rest and I’m sure he’s fine.

It worries me...
Fran Tarkenton knows about Super Bowl losing QBs.

The funny thing is
Bears and Viking fans on many sites (as well as idiots like Skip Bayless) point out how “ineffective” Rodgers and the Packers offense were in the second half, and claim that this is somehow “proof”. They conveniently ignore the fact that, as bad as Rodgers QB rating was, and as bad as the Packers offense was in the second half, Big Ben and the Steelers offense was even worse.
The talking heads and writers on places like ESPN and SI.com have talked all week long about how that second half could be the sign that the Packers are going to lose, and gloss over the Steelers second half as if it never happened. As if nearly letting the Jets come back from 24 points down in Pittsburgh is somehow better than nearly letting the Bears come back from 14 down in Chicago.
Oops, part of that somehow got cut out
should say "….somehow “proof” that the Packers are going to get creamed in the Super Bowl……"
Bayless’ points are moot; he makes a living blowing Brett Favre + hating Aaron Rodgers.

Bayless
His job is to create an argument for the sake of entertainment. After Favre retired in March 2008 Bayless said, “Favre isn’t a Top 5 QB. He isn’t even a Top 20 QB!” From there an argument ran wild. That’s just an example. ESPN is there just for the entertainment.

ESPN is useless
Unless they’re televising a sporting event.

Really, with one QB, Caleb Hainie
A QB that did not have a gameplan in place by one of the best defensive coordinators in the league. Pit almost got burned by Sanchez, a QB who was prepared for the whole week by LeBeau. If that play at the end of the first half was ruled a forward pass rather than a fumble, we may be talking about an all-green SB, rather than an all-gold SB.
The Steelers played to kill the clock.
And that’s what they did. It worked, didn’t it?

How is that any different from what the Packers were trying to do?

Don't blame us
because Jay Cutler can’t beat our defense. How many points did you give up to Mark Sanchez again? How many did we give up? Oh, yeah…..0! Not to mention you lost to Mark Sanchez the first time…..in Pittsburgh!

No truth in that statement whatsoever.
Cutler was held to 0 points. Collins was 0 for 4. And you can have all the almosts you want, but it doesn’t make it so.

Good point. And for as “bad” as he was in the second half, he was the reason we were even able to put 14 points up in the first place.
I’m convinced that part of the reason the offense started to sputter so much was because McCarthy got pretty conservative in the second half. It’s hard to get any rhythm and flow going when you’re running the ball pretty consistently on 1st and 2nd down, gaining -2-4 yards from those two runs, and facing a third and long. Not too mention, Clifton going out for a bit definitely hurt the offense as Lang had a tough time with Peppers, and I’m sure McCarthy had to compromise his play calling a bit because of that. And the Bears probably just adjusted well to what we were doing on offense.

well to be honest
while watching it I immediately said Rodgers looks hurt. I was guessing wrist, but shoulder made more sense when I thought about it. Instead of doing “the belt” he just pointed at his waist cause it looked like it would hurt to much to actually do “the belt”.
That being said I don’t think he looked bad going forward. IMO it looked like the offense dominated so much in the first half that they just got bored and lost their edge in the second half. The first half felt like it should have been 31-0, not 14-0.

I forgot
to add that Tarkenton saying he had the same injury is ridiculous. Going off of the ‘Tarkenton Theory’, I’ve had surgery on both shoulders as well as more dislocations that I can count… so I can safely say I’ve had the same injury as Rodgers and he’ll be BETTER than he’s ever been because of it…
