2011 NFL Draft: Projecting The Packers Needs

Stay connected for news and updates

I have not thought much about the Green Bay Packers draft needs this April. But here's the first of many 2011 NFL SB Nation mock drafts for your consideration. Consider this an open thread on the topic.

The writers at SB Nation have initially penciled in LB Justin Houston from Georgia, who would be coming out early. Here's a complete bio from NFL Draft Scout. He's big and fast (for his size) who could be an ideal 3-4 linebacker. He was suspended in 2009, but the Packers don't avoid players with character issues. They drafted TE Andrew Quarless (who was almost kicked off the team at Penn State), but they didn't risk too much with a 5th round pick either.

The Packers don't have any glaring needs. But they've had a lot of injuries to their defensive front seven. And they'll have some tough free agent choices on players like DE Cullen Jenkins and LB Desmond Bishop. I'll probably focus on players who can play up front and rush the passer (like Justin Houston) for the next few months.
