For the love of...

It is a given that a majority of the posters here at Acme Packing Company support/love/just plain go crazy for the Packers. However, we each have our own rooting interests outside of Green Bay as well. Here are some of my teams and a short account as to why/how I became a fan:

I’ll start with the Packers. As a kid, I would watch football but didn’t really have a rooting interest until I saw these guys in green and gold playing the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XXXII. Can’t really put my finger on it as to why I liked them, maybe it was the way Brett Favre played or just my dislike of John Elway (courtesy of the sob story of him having never won a ring until then). But from that night on, I was hooked.

The Dallas Mavericks. I live smack-dab in the middle of Spurs country (ugh), but I never liked them; not before Duncan, not after Duncan. But, I was a big fan of Dirk Nowitzki, Michael Finley, and Steve Nash prior to Mark Cuban purchasing the team in 2000. What really cemented it for me was the 2001 series against the Jazz; down 0-2, they fought all the way back to win that series 3 games to 2.

The Houston Astros. Another homer pick, this is the one team I’ve always loved since I was a kid. Jeff Bagwell and Craig Biggio in the Astrodome days were pretty special. 2004 w/ Carlos Beltran, Jeff Kent, the Killer Bs, Pettitte, Clemens was just amazing for me to watch. The 2005 World Series team had the same great pitching, but no offense (Damn you, Morgan Ensberg :( ).

And lastly, my college: Texas A&M-Kingsville. Besides the obvious rooting interest, it’s the home of Javelina greats/Hall of Famers Gene Upshaw, John Randle and Darrell Green, as well as former Packer great Al Harris and… Eva Longoria?!? :P heh

Okay, Acme Packing Company. Your turn.
