Clay Matthews Is Not Defensive Player Of The Year

Stay connected for news and updates

It was widely reported that Green Bay Packers LB Clay Matthews was expected to win AP Defensive Player of the Year, but instead it went to Steelers S Troy Polamalu. WearShades wrote a Fan Post earlier. From SB Nation:

He was not expected to win the award, with Rich Eisen’s interview of Green Bay Packers LB Clay Matthews moments before the announcement seeming to end any drama that could’ve been built up.

Multiple media outlets reported Matthews as the winner before NFL Network actually made the announcement. He was the favorite coming in to the event, and finished only two votes short of the winner.

He's the Packers defensive player of the year, and that's my only concern. I've got him on the short list for Super Bowl MVP, so that's the award I would really like him to win.
