Edgar Bennett
If I were Edgar Bennett, I would sit down w/ James Starks and say "That is the guy we didn't trade for cuz we like YOU!!!" Put the onus on Starks to make a run like that, or at least give that effort on a run! I wasn't entirely sold on a trade for Lynch, but make me RB coach for a day, and I sell that to Starks like a Mother F*cker!!! We wanted YOU instead of THAT!! Is there a better way of motivating a player?!! No Way!!
As most of you know, I'm a big Starks supporter, but I wouldn't miss an opportunity like this to send a message! Whether its this year (hopefully) or next year or the year after, I don't care... I make a copy of that run and make sure that James Starks knows that we didn't make a trade for that guy cuz "the GB Packers wanted YOU instead!"
Starks already has his hands full just trying to make the coaches happy w/ his practice performance, but why stop there... Let him know thats what we want from YOU, cuz we could easily have had him instead of you!

Light a fire
I’ll bet Edgar is texting something like that to Starks as we speak!
Different guys have different ways of being motivated, but this seems pretty sure-fire, and doesn’t have the potential blowback of a benching. I’m definitely a believer in the “light a fire” strategy, though. No such thing as a running back running too fiercely.
That run reminded me of Tommie Frazier’s big run against Spurrier’s Gators – everyone was so busy trying to rip that ball out of there that they forgot to tackle him. Still a good run, but the defenders were the football equivalent of “enablers” on that one.

To be fair
Lynch’s production hasn’t been that great. Yes, that was a hella run, but few and far between. Good teaching tool, tho.
Please please stop the Starks hype
I am now officially tired of the Starks talk here. It seems anytime we talk about the offense people want to see him get more carries and I just can’t figure out why. Pretty soon I’m going to start calling him Underwood 2.0. Seriously think about it….all we here about is the kid’s potential, but he’s not working hard enough in practice to get on the field and was a relatively low round pick. He’s not done much, but really everyone seems to think he’s the answer. I don’t get it.
Don’t show me his college highlights.
Don’t talk about his one good game (Jackson has had one or two good games too I don’t think he’s the answer either).
I’m not officially tired of it. We are in the playoffs and that’s not the time to take a chance on a sixth round flyer who has not shown a consistent presence in practice or on the field. What we need is to go back to what we do best…passing. What we need the ground game for is the 3rd and 1’s and goal lines….and you know what? In those situations it’s not 44’s number being called. It’s not 32’s number being called. It’s not a dude in dreads going out either. It’s 30. He’s going to pound it or we are going to pass. That’s the answer ladies and gentlemen.
So please, let’s give Starks and offseason and training camp. Let’s see how he grows into the role we are hoping he can become and not get our hopes up for anything too much this season.

I don't care!
I’m sold on Starks and think he’ll be a better RB than Grant! As good of speed, better vision and balance, falls forward in the same manner as Grant, better reciever… The list goes on! Starks is an UPGRADE over Grant in many ways… just not production… Yet!!
I’m not trying to fool anyone! All of you know my feelings about Starks as a RB… I’m sayin it now. I think he’ll be better than Grant and it might not take next year to see it!
You've been Stroh'd™!!!
Production is all that matters in the NFL
I’m not going to believe in the better balance and vision until I can see him consistently hitting holes. Too often people are thinking that he’s a high round pick. He might of had the raw talent, but there are reasons why he fell to where he did. Injury problems and really old tape with nothing recent to back it up. I don’t see how that’s changed.

Agreed
I saw his college videos and they looked great, but he wasn’t playing against Ohio State or Alabama so the competition can sometimes make a player look better than he is. I’m hopeful he’s the real deal but he hung in the draft for a reason. Even though Ted has a knack for finding a gem we have had obvious running back issues since Grant went down and he has barely sniffed the field that has to tell you something. When a player has that obvious of talent they coach him up and get them on the field (example Shields a position much harder to make a impact as a rookie)
draft
He “hung” in the draft cuz he was hurt! Otherwise he would have been a 2nd rd pick… Not just my opinion either. If you watched his vids you know he has vision, cutting ability, speed, instincts and good hands! Those are things that are noticable and translate from one level to the next, no matter level of competition! I expect between 10 and 15 carries from Starks today!
You've been Stroh'd™!!!
Hope your right
But I’ve watched video of players who look great against inferior competition and been fooled. Talk to any Packer personel person and that’s the biggest challenge they have when drafting a D2 or D3 player and even players from inferior conferences because the level of competition does matter.
watched video of players who look great against inferior competition and been fooled
Then you were looking for the wrong things… Some things translate some don’t! The things I listed above are translatable (is that a word?)…
You've been Stroh'd™!!!
(is that a word?)
Does that matter to you?
Go Suns, Packers, Jays, and Huskers!
And go Shawn Watson and Barney Cotton! Seriously, leave Lincoln. Now.
+1,000,000
Looks like your predictions were right after today’s game. He’s just a much better runner than Grant is too me. He hits the hole so much faster, has much better vision, and actually breaks tackles and almost always falls forwards.

Working hard
but he’s not working hard enough in practice to get on the field
I don’t think it’s a problem of Starks not working hard enough. I read an article the other day that quoted Edgar Bennett defending his work ethic. He said “[Starks] has a tremendous work ethic… It’s just more the detail of it.” So I think it is just the adjustment of going from college practices to NFL practices and picking up some of the nuances of the NFL game at his position such as blitz pick up is the reason why the coaches don’t completely trust him yet. I think it will probably take OTAs and training camp for him to get up to speed with those things. But, there is no denying that he is the best rusher on the team right now.

I'm sure Edgar Bennett will do his job,
but unfortunately all I could think upon seeing that run was: I sure wish Ted Thompson had pulled the trigger on that trade for Lynch. And, I don’t care to hear about how productive he hasn’t been for the Seahawks. I feel very confident that our running game would have been significantly upgraded if we had added Lynch when he was available. That’s all I need to know. This team was way too talented to trust the running game to our current stable of RBs, and this is a rare example of Thompson dropping the ball.
Bev Pear: A jar? Girls don't pee in jars.
Randy Pear: Oh, right. Sorry. Jason, we're gonna need a jar and a funnel.
Yeah I felt the same way too
It’s funny…for every Sam Shields and Erik Walden who seem to come out of no where to rock the party there is a Marshawn Lynch who we just watch and wonder “what if?” We have now reached far enough into his tenure that we know that’s what going to happen.
We can complain and say “Ron Wolf wouldn’t of done that.”
We can point to the lack of splashy moves.
We can bitch and complain….
Really though, the ultimate judgment comes at 3:15 tomorrow on that one and hopefully next week as well. There are no style points in the NFL, there are simply wins and losses. So far TT has carried us pretty far and given the Packers a good shot to win. Hopefully a win tomorrow will justify some of his sitting on of hands, and we can make a nice deep run this year.

I am not going to wonder if for Marshawn Lynch...
As you said above…
Don’t show me his college highlights.
Don’t talk about his one good game (Jackson has had one or two good games too I don’t think he’s the answer either).
That is pretty much all he had this year. One or two good games (CAR and NO). I am fine without Lynch.

Exactly my thoughts on Lynch
"Why do they call an orange an orange, but they don't call a banana a yellow?" - Andy Rooney
yeah but...
you’re asking a rookie who has hardly played this year to try and do something big in the playoffs… I hope it happens, I REALLY hope it happens… but I think by doing that you’re just asking him to press things and start to make mistakes. Like not securing the ball and trying to get extra yards when we just need one or two, which ends up us not getting those one or two yards.
I love Starks and I hope he gets some carries cause I think he’s full of potential… but leave the ball in Rodgers’ hands for the next 4 games and let Jackson/Kuhn worry about the “heavy” lifting from our RB position

It’s asking a lot of a guy who hadn’t played much football in the last year and a half to come in and be a big contributor in the biggest game of the season.
I like Starks, but I don’t expect much until next year.

You aren't even willing to consider that fresh legs had something to do with Starks performance?
Greinke: "It’s not about the guacamole itself. I just don’t want to let them win."
Didn't say fresh legs didn't help...
But that in no way should detract from the oustanding play of Starks!!! Funny how his “fresh” legs meant nothing in wk 11 (or when ever it was) when he had his other really good game tho!! Do you think it matters more than his talent, his ability and his effort?!!
You've been Stroh'd™!!!
And Trevor didn't say that talent et. al. didn't help
Greinke: "It’s not about the guacamole itself. I just don’t want to let them win."
No...
But he did minimize his performance!! Which is what I said from the start!
You've been Stroh'd™!!!
No he didn't
He pointed out a valid fact that likely factored into Starks performance.
Greinke: "It’s not about the guacamole itself. I just don’t want to let them win."
From Trevor...
“underestimate the impact of a guy who is totally fresh playing against guys who are beat to hell”
Sorry but to me that says the reason he was successful was others being beat up, NOT Starks ability, talent and effort! In effect overestimating the fact that others are beat up and sayin Starks wouldn’t have done as well in a game earlier this season and any RB could have done as well if he was fresh!
You've been Stroh'd™!!!
For someone that gets upset about others reading into what you say
You sure seem to do it a lot. And you admitted that Trevor didn’t say anything about what you’re complaining about.
Greinke: "It’s not about the guacamole itself. I just don’t want to let them win."
Everyone does it...
Even Greg!!! Might be shock to you that your not perfect either!!
You've been Stroh'd™!!!
Yeah, but I don't complain when people do it to me.
That would be the difference.
Greinke: "It’s not about the guacamole itself. I just don’t want to let them win."
All I do is point it out! If thats complaining so be it!
And I’m also pretty sure that I qualify myself here as much or more than anyone about it being “My opinion” or “I think”…
You've been Stroh'd™!!!
Whatever
I’ve made my point.
Greinke: "It’s not about the guacamole itself. I just don’t want to let them win."
So if someone misinterprets what you say.
You don’t try to correct them… EVER? LMAO
You've been Stroh'd™!!!
That wasn't my point
My point is you constantly complain when people “read into” what you say. That is not the same as correcting someone. But nice try.
Greinke: "It’s not about the guacamole itself. I just don’t want to let them win."
Really
So misinterpretting and reading into something someone says doesn’t have the same outcome? I mean either way they are taking something you said in a manner different than what you intended… But if I do it its complaining and if you do it, its not? LMAO more!
You've been Stroh'd™!!!
You don't just correct people
You constantly say things like “I said just what I meant to say!” and “You’re putting words in my mouth!” in a very defensive manner. That isn’t correcting people. Correcting people would be saying “That isn’t what I meant. What I meant was…”. But if you don’t think you complain about it, I guess we’re done here.
Greinke: "It’s not about the guacamole itself. I just don’t want to let them win."
Blunt!
I’m blunt, I’ve never denied that! And really to you thats complaining.
And since when is attributine someone accomplishments (Starks) to someone elses alleged frailty (Wear on the body) not minimizing what that players accomplished? Its clearly taking some of the accomplishment away from them and using an excuse to explain it! Thus minimizing the accomplishment…
You've been Stroh'd™!!!
So "blunt" translates to "I can say whatever I want"
Right, got it.
You know what, fine. Go ahead and think that’s “minimizing” Starks’ effort. You yourself admitted that him being fresh likely contributed to his performance, so I don’t see why you’re throwing a fit over Trevor saying something that you agree with. It’s not “minimizing” his effort. “Minimizing” his effort would be saying that he was fresh and going against a team with a poor run defense that did not gameplan for him and anyone in that situation would have had success, which is clearly not what Trevor said. He gave a valid point about a contributing factor to Starks’ performance.
Greinke: "It’s not about the guacamole itself. I just don’t want to let them win."
Being fresh helped a little
But thats like saying I got a little cold and can’t cover someone instead of saying I got beat!!! Excuses dont matter in the playoffs do they?!
And I never said being blunt gives me a right to say anything… It simply means I don’t sugar coat something to make you feel better! If that hurts your feeling thats YOUR problem!
You've been Stroh'd™!!!
Props Stroh..
