On Rodgers, The Pass Defense, Security, and Randall Cobb
There was a lot to be said after the Green Bay Packers defeated the Denver Broncos.
Tom Oates: Rodgers' brilliance not to be overlooked amid thrilling weekend. Six touchdowns scored even drew some praise from Broncos head coach John Fox.
Packers coaches looking to fix safety problem of leaky unit - JSOnline. Did you see WR Brandon Lloyd running wild? A combination of inexperience by Morgan Burnett and the continued absence of Nick Collins has a lot to do with it. Burnett is good, but he still plays like a rookie (only 8 games of NFL experience). He should continue to improve.
X's & O's: Decker's TD Reception | Cheesehead TV. Anything written by "Paul Ott Carruth" on the nuts and bolts of the game is worth reading. His basic point on Charles Woodson is well taken. While Woodson made a big play on an INT he returned for a TD earlier in the game, he gambled and lost on a later touchdown. Maybe we'll just have to expect the Packers defense to surrender a ton of yards each week, but force multiple turnovers.
Packers vs. Broncos: 5 Observations from Green Bay's 49-23 Romp Over Denver | AllGreenBayPackers.Com. I like Zach's list of every touchdown Rodgers scored.
PACKERVILLE, U.S.A.: Treasures from Green Bay. As usual, Mr. Lambeau has some great pictures. And a little bit more on the Lambeau Field security fiasco.
Mea Culpa, Randall Cobb. | PocketDoppler.com. While I expected he'd be good, he's been better than I expected too. He's had few opportunities as the No. 5 WR, but he's 4th overall in receiving yards despite having only 8 passes thrown to him in his first four games.

What stands out most,
comparing this years offense to last years?
The WR’s are not dropping passes.
The improvements are dramatic.
I was so glad when the Cowboys grabbed last years (under-achieving) WR coach, Jimmy Robinson.
Edgar Bennett is a very good detail oriented coach, with a bright future in coaching.
He has helped turn a very good core of WR’s into a truly elite group.
Sooner than later now, the rest of the league will start grabbing the Packers coaching staff.
i bet
Winston Moss gets a head coaching job within the next few years
I'd be surprised
to see many of these guys stay over the next five years. Especially if we repeat. Look at what happened to the coaching staff of the Patriots dynasty*.
Right.
Weis went to a Notre Dame team, lucked his way into Brady Quinn, and managed two blowout BCS losses and a losing season. Romeo Crennel went to a Cleveland team that couldn’t beat a paper bag in most seasons.
The Patriots survived, but they were 10-6 in 2005 (and frankly, it was a fairly crappy 10-6). Still, they managed to advance past their first playoff game in each of the next three seasons.
Oh, and the asterisk is cute. Stop.

They all got head coaching jobs and were quickly fired because they didn’t have Tom Brady to make them look good.
McDaniels – Tebow is more Brady Bunch than Tom Brady
Mangini – Fired 2×. Not horrible as an analyst though.
Weis – (College) Recruited Jimmy Claussen as his next Joe Montana and forgot that he needed to recruit anybody else
Crennell- Do the Browns even count?
Also they didn’t acquire the skills needed to be a head coach because Coach Hoodie never delegated any real authority.
I can see Moss getting a shot somewhere. Trgovac and Greene I think will be here for a couple years. I think/hope Joe Whitt is being groomed to be the replacement for Capers when he chooses to retire. Whitt is the star coach in the making on this team. Bennett is very good and being a Packer legacy I can see him staying here over any offers from other teams for similar roles.

I think teams will be wary of hiring Green as a HC.
He seems like a great motivator, but I’m not sure he can handle the responsibilities without a great staff behind him (See Singletary, Mike).
I already told you! I deal with the god damn receivers so the linebackers don’t have to! I have coverage skills; I’m good at covering people! Can’t you understand that? What the hell is wrong with you people?!
The Pats had the horses
On offense and defense during their best years. Brady run the machine but that D, Tedy Bruschi always always seemed to make a play. They were six linebackers deep, and Rodney Harrison cleaned up the secondary. Brady may be the only Hall of Famer of the bunch but that linebacking core is one of the best in history.
I don’t see Belichick as this master genius. Sure, he’s good at stockpiling picks, but they’ve dropped a number of high picks over the years. Maybe he’s a great defensive taskmaster, but if you ask me, his horses made him into this master genius by making him look good back in the early 2000’s
