Charlie Peprah poll

Hey everyone, thank you all for voting in the Ryan Grant Poll last week and thank you for your insightful comments. Based on the success of the Grant poll, I have decided to throw another name out there and I plan on doing one of these a week. As the season moves along the names in these polls will get more and more debatable.

This week lets discuss Charlie Peprah. He filled in well last year late in the season when called upon and this year he has been called upon to start in the absence of Nick Collins. Now we can't make a 100% guarantee that Collins has played his last NFL game, but I think we can pretty much assume he has. Honestly, it would be stupid for him to consider playing again. Now back to Peprah. Charlie Peprah has made some nice plays this season but he has also been a liability in deep coverage most of the time. He improved last night against the Vikings, but still that doesn't give me a lot of faith in him long term, even for the rest of this season. However, Peprah does have value as a backup.

So, should the Packers bring back Charlie Peprah in 2012?

Definitely keep him

With Collins likely never to play again, he’s the best we have and until we can find someone else, he’ll have to do. I can’t imagine he’ll cost a ton to retain either.

Keep him for depth...

move Woodson to safety, and start Shields opposite Tramon. As for the other backups, draft and see what you can find off the scrap-heap.

Do you think Shields is ready?

Personally I love the kid but he still has some fits with biting hard on Play Actions and a tendency to try and go for big play over coverage. What about MD Jennings?

This might actually be the opportunity for Wood to make the move…though I really was hoping it wouldn’t be to take the place of our pro bowl safety!!

He's playing pretty much exactly how you'd expect a good backup to play as a fill-in starter

Does he give up some plays? Sure. If he didn’t, he wouldn’t have been a backup to begin with.

But I don’t know if there is another backup safety currently in the NFL who could play as well and provide the stability that Pep does.

Definitely bring him back as a backup, look for starting-quality safeties in the draft/free-agency. And if that doesn’t work, move Woodson back (that is, if he’s still around. If we manage to win the SB again, I think he might want to go out on top ala Elway.)

Angelo: Right….so anyways Jay, I’m sure you understand that we needed to make this move and I wanna wish you the best of luck.

Cutler: (Swoops bangs out of eyes by throwing his head back) Whatever, I don’t need this team or you.

What I like about Peprah is he improves with play

He makes good with his opportunities. Glad as hell he’s a Packer.

He'll be back!

Absolutely no doubt about it… First of all he just signed a 2 yr contract if memory serves, so that trumps all else… If under contract there is no reason whatsoever not to bring him back. Even if Collins were healthy and a guarentee to play next year he would be back. He makes some plays and generally plays his position very well. This year is turning out much like last year for him. An injury thrust him into the starting lineup and the longer he is there, the better he plays. He doesn’t miss tackles, is aggressive and is assignment sure. He isn’t a top athlete like Collins so not the playmaker, but he makes the plays he can. The guys has 6 INT’s since late last year to this year. How many teams would love that from one of their safeties? I doubt any team would pass that up! His only thing keeping him from being a very good starter is limited athletic ability. But he is smart tough and dependable!

That’s my biggest obstacle as well
