We're gonna hear about Thanksgiving 1962 all week

And just to stop all the pretty parallels in their tracks: Yes, it’s in their house, and yes the team will be motivated and the fans will be loud.

And the Lions may be playing with a chip on their collective shoulder, but it’s not nearly as big as the chip the ’62 Lions were carrying. They were [quite upset] that the Packers had managed to squeeze out a 9-7 victory in Week 4 that year and were looking for revenge at home. They installed some novel (for the time) defensive schemes that could have back-fired horribly, but they executed them well enough to keep the O-Line on their heels all game long.

OTOH. this Lions squad beat the Packers the last time they played. They don’t have them to blame for a controversial (to them) early-season loss that would have left them tied atop the standings had it gone the other way. And I doubt there is any defensive scheme that they could put on the field that MM and the offense haven’t seen before.

Yes, there are some parallels, and some may invoke history to write cheap stories on a holiday week, but the truth of the matter is that it’s an undefeated #1 GB vs. #2 DET in their house on Thanksgiving. That’s where it ends.

The Lions' story is very cute, but f*** them.

Everybody keeps talking about how loud Ford Field is going to be; somebody remind me, is Aaron Rodgers a rookie QB? No? Aaron and our OL are more than capable of running either a silent count or going by signals.

As for 1962? Cool story, bros. A game played 49 years ago will have ZERO impact on the game being played on November 24, 2011.

Yeah, things were pretty loud in Atlanta when we had our two back-up OT’s in, and everything worked out just fine.

they said the same stuff about the Georgia Dome last January

how’d that loud dome work for them?

football does not build character, it reveals character.

You're right... "F" THEM>

Domes aren’t loud and they don’t and can’t affect the Packers in any way.

Impossible.

Totally.

see, there lies YOUR issue...

Its not “RODGERS”, it’s a god given fact for any QB and ANY Offense in the NFL.

The only history I'm worried about with this game is the concussion of Rodgers last year.

The Lions got a chips on their shoulders, the Packers got chips on their shoulders, fans got chips on their shoulders and laps, coaches have chips and unknown handshakes on their shoulders/minds but,the only chip I want to remain on a shoulder is the one that Rodgers keeps replacing with everything he does to remove the previous.
May his bag of chips(brand optional) be bottomless.

Adversity and Challenge

McCarthy has done a very good job of keeping this team fairly focused considerering the lack of real adversity that they had last year. All the players say the right thing, but I think they mean it. I have no doubt Rodgers was sincere after the Tampa game. It’s pretty human that in spite of all that, the team may have been looking past the Bucs a bit. But, Thursday is a test that’s been circled for many reasons. I expect the offense line to have a stellar day, and I expect better defensive performance.

I love how all of the media is "How the Lions will beat the Packers"

since their good start – the Lions haven’t done a whole lot. They got beat by the 49ers and Falcons and SMASHED by the Bears. They have scored big in 2 wins against the Broncos and Panthers, two below-average defenses. Yet apparently they’re going to beat the Packers (according to the media).

The biggest problem for them will be the running game. If Kevin Smith can be productive, they have a chance. But if that defense can key in on the passing game almost exclusively, it’s going to be tough sledding for them. I already think Stafford will struggle a bit against the blitzes and reads – and the Packers actually have the personnel to match up with them.

Offensively for the Packers, the Lions front four is elite, but the rest of that defense is pretty average. Their secondary is going to have a really tough time covering, and because their D-Line lines up wide and goes after the passer, I think there are going to be decent running lanes for Grant (or Starks is he ends up playing) as well as Rodgers. I think Rodgers ability to extend the play will serve him well in this game.

Read this over on a Detroit paper's website..

“One game later…

Lions Perfect Possible Scenario In Mid November!

Consider this: This is still a possible scenario in MID-NOVEMBER!!

Lions win out; 13-3
Bears win out; 13-3
Packers lose only 3 games (Bears & Lions); 13-3

Lions win NFC North Division because Head to Head v Packers; only 1 Division lose v Bears
Bears win 5th seed because of only 2 Division losses v Packers
Packers win 6th seed because of 13 wins and 3 division losses.

Packers then beat the NFC South Division winner (Atlanta or NO) and go to San Fransisco and beat them.
Lion then beat the winner of the Bears v Giants game in Detroit then…

Lions HOST the NFC Championship game v the Packers then…

Lions win NFC Championship game beating the Packers a FOURTH CONSECUTIVE TIME and ….

Lion go to the Super Bowl and win it.

This is still a possible scenario.

So MAN UP and ENJOY the rest of the Season!"

That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever read. First off, neither the Bears or Lions are winning out. Period. The Lions will lose to the Saints, and I highly doubt they sweep us. If a sweep happens, it’s going to us doing the sweeping. And there’s no way we lose at home to Hanie and the Bears.

I swear if you read most of the Lions fans posts and did not know they were playing the Packers...

you would be forgiven for thinking they were playing a 1-9 or 0-10 team on Thanksgiving.

I guess your reading comprehension is lacking....

To sum it up…. Most of the discussions don’t even mention the packers. Why? Because as fans we’ve witnessed a young, growing, two faced team all season. Only one game this year have we witnessed a complete game from our Lions… Denver. Besides that, its been all intermittent, up and down, great and shitty, (insert another cliche`) performances.

Everyone knows who and what the Packers are capable of. Every fan knows the level that the Packers are playing at. 10-0… DUH.

So when fans like you take offense when an opposing team’s fan pretty much ignores your team, its pretty F’n laughable.
The Packers are a veteran team and Superbowl champions and bring their best game EVERY GAME. How do you argue with perfection? you don’t.

Its up to this young, upcoming Lions team to bring their A game… not the Packers. That is why the Media is talking Lions, Lions Lions… that is why Lion fans are talking about what they need to do to compete at the perfect level that the Pack has established.

So enough with the ignorant, cheap digs about “you would be forgiven for thinking they were playing a 1-9 or 0-10 team on Thanksgiving.”…. Cause you couldn’t be further from the truth.

I hope the Pack comes out on fire for this game like the Bears did in the second game against the Lions

The Bears handily beat the Lions in

thanks to 2/3 phases of the game…. Defense and Special teams. We can only hope that mid-season beat downs like this make our team stronger.

That's how Chicago wins games

It certainly isn’t Jay Cutler lighting up the scoreboard.

I was not impressed with the effort

of the Lions ST and Offense in that game…. whether it was Staffords finger/gloves or what… they played like shit and did everything in their power to make for an easy game for the Bears.

Its frustrating to watch this young team… cause they play like shit on minute, then can flip a switch and light a team up.

Who knows how tomorrow’s game will unfold.
