On Dirty Play, The Replacements, and Aaron Rodgers

Packers’, Lions’ Destinies Diverge | Cheesehead TV. While the 2011 Lions have developed a bad reputation, here's a look back at the mid-1980s Packer teams that had their own bad reputation.

Who are these Guys? Robert Francois, D.J. Smith and Evan Dietrich-Smith | AllGreenBayPackers.Com. A really good look at the replacements. Also, Dom Capers noted the difficult situation that Francois was placed in because he hasn't been active for most of the season and he rarely practices with the defense.

I don't think that's what he's saying

To me it sounded like at the time everyone thought it was ok because the franchise was stuck in losing ways. Looking back at themselves now though, they realize that was the wrong way to look at it and possibly should have been more vocal about it in the first place. Just my $0.02

My thoughts exactly.

The article itself is excellently written.

All is vanity.

About the last one...

I don’t think it’s only Aaron that’s running the train as far as wanting to repeat. He said himself early in the season, there’s 15-16 guys on that team that have rings that don’t feel like they earned them and didn’t feel like part of the team when we won. They want to win THEIR Superbowl ring! They will stay hungry and I hope so much that we repeat!

Does the guy writing the last article remember that the Broncos repeated in '98

Trust me, I angrily remembered the first part of that and when they repeated I was all like “Elway couldn’t have just waited one more year!”

Francois

While DJ Smith is the LB that seems to have impressed most people, I was very pleased and a bit surprised with Francois’s performance. He showed some speed and quickness in coverage that the Packers have been missing at LB. He didn’t always read correctly and get after the RB out of the backfield quickly enough, but he had the speed to catch up and not allow the RB to get away. For a guy who hasn’t had much chance to practice with the defense, let alone play, I thought he showed some potential. One of the weaknesses of both Hawk and Bishop is the lack of speed to stay with good TEs and RBs out of the backfield, and Francois showed that he might have that ability to be a coverage LB.
