Graham Harrell
Now this has nothing to do with my weekly polls, I just thought of this and decided to ask you all about this just to see what you think. I think it is a safe bet to say that Matt Flynn will walk at the end of the season and sign with a different team under the circumstances that he will start. He is better than almost half of the starting QB's in the NFL so I don't see him returning to the Packers. My question is about Graham Harrell. Would you be comfortable with Graham Harrell as the Packers backup QB for the next couple of years?

I don't see how we can know yet
The reason we’re so comfortable with Flynn is that we’ve seen him play well in regular season games. The only time we’ve seen Harrell play is in preseason games against scrubs, most of whom ended up not even making the rosters of their respective teams.
The better question might be, are you comfortable with the Packers’ ability to develop quarterbacks? Given their track history with Rodgers and Flynn, I have faith that the Packers will select and develop the right guy to be the backup for Rodgers. If the Packers are comfortable with Harrell, I think that says a lot.

Lord...

Looking forward to the Packers three-peating and visiting President Ron Paul at the White House in 2013
IF they can keep their QBs coach
I seem to recall there being some speculation he might be a prospect for other teams

Clements is important...
But not more so than McCarthy. Remember, its McCarthy’s QB school, not Clements. Thats where it starts and Clements build off it and is important, but McCarthy is the one that had the reputation of being the QB guru when he got hired, not Clements. Clements has done a great job, but it starts w/ McCarthy!
You've been Stroh'd™!!!
I remember
reading somewhere that he loves his job and couldn’t imagine being a OC or HC, but then again don’t all coaches say that?

Really hard to say
Next year will be interesting when he has more time to work with the good players. REally though we don’t have much to go off of, he’s just a work in progress.
The Green Bay Packers...Putting bad coaches out of their misery since 2010
Yeah, I agree that we don't have enough film of him to accurately judge.
It will be interesting to see this upcoming training camp his progression and gain a better understanding of where he’s at.
Good times never seemed so good!
If I'm forced to decide now
I’d say Harrell is not the answer as a backup. Even with low expectations as the likely practice squad QB, he wasn’t all that impressive last preseason. They’ll certainly give him another opportunity next preseason, but he’ll have to show improvement.
It’s still possible Flynn could return as a backup, though I’m not expecting him back in 2012.
I think they’ll spend a late round pick next season on another developmental quarterback for the practice squad, and let Harrell backup Rodgers. But I wouldn’t be shocked if they went another direction either. A lot depends on how Harrell is progressing in practice, and if the coaches see something in him.
Waaaaaayyyy too early to tell
Right now this is not even on my radar. Wait three or four months on this one before we really start to dive into the merits of Graham Harrell. He has shown some improvement, but he hasn’t gone through QB school yet or a full offseason here. Let’s just ride out this season and let him grow and work with the coaches in the offseason stuff before we start to talk about whether he’s got the chops to be the back up or not.
Agreed.
Right now this is not even on my radar.
For me, nothing that will happen after February 5, 2012 is on my radar.

The Munsters of the Midway still suck!
One thing they might do is finagle it so he is somehow on the active roster at the end of the season so he can go through all of the Packers offseason programs under contract.
why?
He’ll still be on the 80 man roster. If he hasn’t been signed so far he’ll probably not be snatched away at this point. Really he can still go through all those same offseason activities as a part of the PS.

He cant go to the Packers QB school unless he is under contract(Practice Squad does not count) at the end of the season.

You sure on that?
I remember past years where they would bring in guys to fill out the attendance there who weren’t on the roster during the season. The main person that comes to mind for this is Chris Pezzolinni. I know he did some stunts on the PS but I don’t think he ever made it up to the active roster.

They can sign him to a reserve/future deal once the season is over & no one else has claimed him
We did this exact thing with Chastin West & Anthony Levine this last offseason. The lockout prevented a lot of the offseason stuff, but they could have participated b/c they were under contract.
