Pre-Game Focused Preview: What To Expect From The Safeties?

Perry, Packers confident in Burnett - JSOnline, One of the more concerning things about the Green Bay Packers has been that their pass defense hasn't shown much, if any, improvement this season. The pass rush could be better, but nearly every defensive back and linebacker has had some problems in coverage.

It's hard to evaluate safeties because they might be cleaning up a broken coverage instead of responding late to their responsibilities. S Charlie Peprah had a rough first start against the Bears, but he hasn't been obviously exposed since. Burnett had a bad missed tackle (see Rams TE Lance Kendricks's 45 yard reception) when during his first game with a cast. Burnett has also played fewer than 16 NFL games (after missing most of last season with a knee injury) so he's still learning. Improved play from the safeties could really provide a boost to a pass defense that has given up a lot of yards passing this season.
