Haynesworth released

I don't think I am interested...anyone interested? I know there are a LOT of people that are upset about our pass rush...is this the guy that you want to see on the team to help provide more pass rush?

Personally, I think he's too much of a locker room cancer kind of guy to take a risk of breaking up what we have going on here. I think the Eagles and Lions might have him on speed dial though. Heck he'd fit right in with the bad boy attitude the Lions seem to be going after.

Didn't he already wash out of a 3-4 system already?

Besides the general rule I advocate about not sorting through BB’s garbage, Hayneworth has now washed out of three different teams and one of them specifically because he didn’t want to play the 3-4 defense. Granted, they wanted him to 2 gap NT in that defense, but I don’t think his role would be radically different here. He would still be 2 gapping, just more as a DE hybrid whose job is to push the pocket in rushing situations rather than shooting gaps.

Well, he could take on Jenkins role last season, which was mainly as a pass rusher in the 2-4-5.

I highly doubt we’d ever pick him up but if we did I wouldn’t mind.

I would do it if the price was right

However, my price would be a one year contract for nowhere near as much money as he will be asking for (and someone will likely pay).

So, no chance.

Angelo: Right….so anyways Jay, I’m sure you understand that we needed to make this move and I wanna wish you the best of luck.

Cutler: (Swoops bangs out of eyes by throwing his head back) Whatever, I don’t need this team or you.

All incentive based

Give him a 1 yr contract at $1-2 mil, and give him incentives based on off-field actions, sacks, playing time, and team performance.

Otherwise, no thank you.

Let him clear waivers

Then sign him to a vet minimum contract. Thats assuming another team doesn’t pick him up, but I don’t see that happening… I would be OK w/ giving him a one year vets minimum and let him know this is basically your last shot. Cuz if he washes out w/ another team NOBODY will ever touch him. I don’t see Thompson doing this unless Capers says we need his interior pass rush. But sign him for the vets min, and give him a shot to help the interior pass rush we’re currently lacking. If he doesn’t play well or isn’t a good fit in the lockerroom you dump him and be done w/ him. No other ramifications to the cap and maybe a chance to play in a SB would motivate him a little.

That sounds better

I didn’t read the post about picking him up for the vets’ minimum via waivers until after I posted that.

Yes

8 Year, 100 million dollar contract, and we should fire Mike McCarthy and Capers and install a system to build our defense around Hanesworth. At least that’s what the Redskins did….

Well, they actually didn’t build it around Haynesworth — exact opposite really, going to a 3-4. But yeah, the Redskinds suck.

Actually

They were going to build around him, THEN they fired their coaches, if I’m not mistaken. I doubt Hanesworth would’ve gone to WAS if he knew he was playing in a 3-4.

I'd prefer to avoid him

but if he came at a small salary obligation, I wouldn’t mind taking a chance. As long as barely anything is tied up to him, I’d be good with it. The odds of that happening are slim to none though, which means Haynesworth isn’t going to Green Bay.

Side note

GB would be one of the only teams where he could pass the conditioning test…if gilbert and howard green have then I bet fat albert could too

NFLN said...

NE got rid of him mostly due to not fitting after they tried to make some 4-3 packags for him that just weren’t working, but had nothing to do with attitude. Also said if picked up off waivers his price tag would be 750k. If he passed waivers and then got picked up, could sign for vet minimum.

Apparently Eagles were in the running for him before NE grabbed him so that may be where he goes. I actually really wouldn’t mind bringing him in now that he’s basically been shown that not many want him, he’s not worth much money and he would only come in for the rest of the year on the cheap. I think his attitude has changed a bit since his career is on the line no matter where he goes.

lol, I guess I'm not surprised...

the excitement of the shiny new FA pickups kinda wears off when you can’t win games with them. Guess they have other things to focus on nowadays.

Quitter

He quit for the Patriots, why would he care here? He’s nothing more than a gap plugger at this point and doesn’t offer the pass rush we need. We have Howard Green, who’s better in the locker room

by GreenandGold4Life on Nov 8, 2011 10:06 PM CST reply actions

Hell no

I doubt he’d be easy on TT’s wallet and the Packers locker room would be better with a bipolar methhead than his presence there.

He would cost next to nothing!

NE is the one paying him his guarenteed money, due to a vets salary being guarenteed if on the roster to start the season. Packer could sign him after he clears waiver for the vets minimum and no guarenteed money. And if he didn’t fit you could release him w/ no cap hit or any other ramifications whatsoever. Probably won’t happen, but its certainly not going to be due his affect on Thompson’s wallet.

I thought about posting it as a challenge

Did anyone want to make a case for signing Haynesworth?

After reading what former Packers beat writer Greg Bedard wrote about the complete lack of effort Haynesworth showed in the third quarter, and watching the replay of him getting shoved out of the way for Jacobs’s touchdown run, it’s clear he’s no help to any team right now.

by Brandon on Nov 9, 2011 1:02 AM CST reply actions

For the speculated cost...

I wouldn’t mind a try for the rest of the year.

don't even worry about it.

He was claimed from waivers by Tampa Bay. Looks like we’re gonna have to play him instead of have him play for us.

Cool

I wouldn’t want him on the Packers, but I’m also kinda’ glad he won’t be playing for the Lions. That would’ve made me very nervous.

Yeah I think the Lions was the combo that made me the most nervous. I wouldn’t want to see Haynesworth and Suh lining up on Turkey Day side by side.
