Just wanted to get your thoughts about the 2 young middle linebackers that have been forced into being starters on what could be the most pressured defense in the NFL. Being a current Appalachian State student, watching DJ Smith make the jump from small college stud to starting on the Green Bay Packers has been great. I had a feeling he would be a Bishop-like special teams star and have an opportunity sooner or later, but I did not see him coming out and playing so well right out of the gates. In college, he was an amazing ball hawk, but never really was a stellar playmaker. He was always just around the ball and possibly the most solid tackler that FCS had ever seen.
I don't know a whole lot about Francois, but he seems to be playing at a pretty high level as well considering the position he was thrown into. It was easy to pick he and Smith as the reason the Packers defense didn't play well against the giants, but I have been thoroughly impressed by Francois playmaking ability and his range in pass coverage.
It leaves me to wonder with the solid play of these two if we will end of letting Walden or Jones go this offseason. I think it is a really good possibility considering legal issues and the fact that Jones hasn't played well since his rookie season. Let me know your guys' thoughts on the two, and how great it is that even through injuries, it seems our depth may be the most experienced depth in the league, which is invaluable.
