Around The NFC North: Lions Make The Playoffs, Vikings Lose Adrian Peterson
Detroit Lions Are Playoff Bound - Pride Of Detroit. How can you not feel good for fans of the Detroit Lions. Their team made the playoffs for the first time since 1999. They have their first 10 win season since 1995. And they accomplished both tasks at home as they dominated a good Chargers team. If the Green Bay Packers meet the Lions in the playoffs, then I expect to see the Packers destroy them at Lambeau Field. But in the meantime, it's been a very good season for a long suffering franchise.
Sources: Peterson likely tore ACL vs. Redskins - NFL - Yahoo! Sports. While the Vikings technically won their game over the Redskins, they suffered two major losses for their franchise.
First, after the Colts had an improbable win over the Texans on Thursday night, the Vikings had moved into a tie for the No. 1 overall pick and the right to draft Andrew Luck. A third win doesn't do anything to turn that possibility into a reality.
Second, franchise RB Adrian Peterson suffered a brutal knee injury. A source said "I'll be happy if it's just the ACL." Clutch16 provided the ugly gif here. If he's torn multiple ligaments, then visions of Daunte Culpepper will be dancing in Viking fans' heads tonight, and it could mean he'll miss the entire 2012 season. Packers TE Andrew Quarless recently tore multiple knee ligaments and there's already talk of a lost season.

I'd like to see Flynn get the start
Wouldnt want the Lions to try and sweep the leg on our season by cheap shotting Rodgers. I wouldn’t put it past Schwartz.

Might've felt good for the Lions and their fans
Had they not become insufferable pricks throughout the year. The Peterson injury was awful, hate to see a guy go down like that and hope he has a speedy recovery.

Right and Packers fans don't act like they're impervious to failure?
Come on now. Sure Lions fans are jerks, but let’s not pretend that jerks aren’t part of every base. I’ve met plenty of Packer fans I’ve found to be a bit egotistical myself…
That being said, I wish you nothing but playoff luck unless you’re facing the Lions.

Heck, every fan base has 'THOSE' people
we do, thats for sure, I know the Bears do, as well as the Vikings. Some people may not like the way the Lions have come back, but after being ‘the laughing stock of the NFL’ for the past decade+, I think people just dont ‘respect’ the Lions, and the Lions are trying to gain that respect (though in some cases I don’t agree with their methods) by their play.

I agree that it's unfair to cast all Lions fans under that net.
It’s really only been a few that have tried to get cute with trash talk here at APC, but I know you’ve been pretty chill and participated in a couple of our game threads, Mule. Good to have you here, and congrats on locking up the playoff spot.
Thanks, hope you guys can clinch Homefield

I think a lot of this disdain for Lions fans on this site
has to do with them populating it in the weeks leading up to Turkey day, guaranteeing that the Lions were gonna destroy the Packers, that Suh was gonna take Rodgers out of the game, that the Lions at home were gonna run them right over… And then their team got smacked and they all ran home with their tails between their legs

FTFY
has to do with them populating it in the 10 weeks leading up to Turkey day
By Thanksgiving week, they were already well-established pains in the asses over here, for nothing more than their little four-game winning streak to close out last year, and their 5-0 start this year.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!

There is a huge difference
and, it is in what the teams have actually accomplished, lately.
And, even so, it doesn’t bother me to see the Leos’ fans talking shit like that on PoD; it’s when they come over here and do it.
Hell, the Packers are defending Super Bowl champions and started the season with 13 straight wins (one for each of our Titles, BTW), and I try to act better than that when I visit over there.

Ok, it wasn't right to lump all Lions fans into that category.
Still don’t care for the team much though, but that should probably be true of a division rival.

Awful news about Peterson
I know Capt Jerkoff at DN wishes all Packers to get ebola but nobody else likes seeing players injured much less a great one like AP
All the best to him

I did like how he managed to take a pointless shot at the Saints
And display that constant stream of self pity that only pre 2004 Red Sox fans can match. Always such a class act, that guy.

Saints fans oughta love the Vikings
if they weren’t so generous the Saints would never have gotten to the Super Bowl Lol
football does not build character, it reveals character.
well it's easy to pin it all on the old fart
but don’t forget about Peterson, Harvin, and Berrian, they were feeling pretty generous as well
football does not build character, it reveals character.
If he pulls that football down, he gains 5 yards easily on the ground...
And sets things up nicely for Ryan Longwell to kick the game-winning FG.
yeah, but if Peterson doesn't fumble three times, Harvin doesn't fumble just outside the red zone, or Berrian doesn't fumble in the red zone
Favre never has to make that play at the end, the game would have already been decided. Easy to pin it all on one play when it happens right at the end, but they had been throwing that game away long before that point

Except that it wasn't gone.
And they WERE about to win it till Favre, pulled… Well a Favre!!

Seattle is such a hard team to place
they have so many injured players, are far from a complete team, and yet manage 7 wins under Carroll despite oftentimes unimpressive offensive play.

Please no. I like what Carroll is doing here. We’re doing just fine without video-taping hoodies hanging around on our sidelines.

Sucks to hear about AP.
The NFL is a better place with him playing and he is a good man. I hope to see him up and playing at 100% soon.
There is nothing wrong with me cheering for players that are former players for my teams. Unless they become a Viking.

Oh and for all those claiming he is “all world,” just remember that he fumbled 3 times in the span of 10 minutes in the 2009 NFC title game…
He’s the Brett Favre of running backs. Puts up big stats but chokes in big games…

It's weird that you're suddenly confident enough to laugh at another's misfortune
Shouldn’t you be in a game thread fretting about the defense or lamenting why we didn’t resign Jenkins? AP may not be perfect, but who is? There’s no reason to mock a horrific, possibly career changing injury like this.

terrible terrible news on AP
They think we are supposed to be jumping up and down, but I never get excited over seeing one of the greats get a potential career changing injury. This is the kind of injury that may lose next season and could alter his career, that makes me sad. He is a true dominant talent.

Peterson
Feel sorry that this happened to AP. He’s a great RB but this is pretty much par for the course when it comes to RB. They are excellent till 27 or so, then the miles and punishment start to take a toll. Same thing happened to another Great RB that we know. Ahman Green!! Both were punishing RB who dished out as much punishment as the took, but this is likely only the beginning of the inevitable deterioration of Peterson. That running style just doesn’t lend itself to being Great for a long time. Green had 6 highly productive seasons after being wasted for 2 years in Seattle, and Peterson is in his 5th. He might have a couple left, but after that he’ll probably be done. Another Great punishing RB used up by the NFL.

good point.
i always kinda thought peterson reminded me of earl campbell. not with quite the same degree of anger in his running style, but mighty close. and look at earl today. his is a sad, horrifying story. hopefully the same fate doesn’t await peterson.

yep, Peterson is such a violent runner
and with him getting so many carries every year the toll was bound to catch up to him at some point.
Still sucks though, the league in general is always better when exciting players like him are playing.
football does not build character, it reveals character.
Besides his running style
Peterson is also kinda an upright runner, whereas Green ran w/ a much lower center of gravity. Peterson takes more hits due to being an upright RB too. Love watching RB like Peterson and Green, cuz they are violent and aggressive, but they just don’t last.
Our Biggest Challenge is how we deal w/ Success!
yup, fragile careers
Jamal Lewis would fall into that category as well
football does not build character, it reveals character.
The worst part about this for AP is...
that he missed his chance at a championship and that team is probably a few years away from contending again. Not that I weep for them as a Packer fan, but you hate to see great players toil away in vain until they breakdown, never getting to experience climbing to the peak of the mountain.

You mean like Earl Campbell or Ahman Green?
Favre threw away a couple chances for Green. Peterson just got a $100M contract from Minn, wonder how the Bears respond to Forte wanting a big contract? I’m betting that they decide to let Forte walk if his demands are pretty high, which it sounds like they are…
Our Biggest Challenge is how we deal w/ Success!
paying big long term money for running backs just isn't a great idea in general
too fragile, too steep of a drop once they hit a certain age
football does not build character, it reveals character.
Definitely count Green in that list....
he should be allowed a free right hook at Favre’s face for every stupid pick he threw in playoff games that cost them another shot at a SB.

You'd have to make it a fraction of all the stupid picks he threw in the postseason...
Otherwise, Ahman would end up in jail for murder.
You really have to wonder what's going to happen to Ray Rice
Harbaugh’s going to run the kid into the ground at this rate. Two years with close to 400 touches? That’s a LOT for a running back in today’s NFL.
