Nick Barnett's Twitter drama over, as is his career (likely) as a Packer

That's right, I said it. Mark my words, Green Bay Packers middle linebacker Nick Barnett, who is currently on the injured reserve list, will not be on the squad next season.

Why? Is it his public Twitter belly aching? No, not whatsoever, I am all for public cries for attention on the Internet! It's because he is due approximately $6 million (after bonuses) next season and the fact that the Packers have younger and much talented players than Barnett.

Who are they? How about AP Defensive Player of the Year runner up Clay Matthews? And let's not forget A.J. Hawk, who is having a phenomenal year, Desmond Bishop, who just got a nice pay increase, and newly acquired Erik Walden, among others.

Barnett is just expendable. He is not a good leader and is constantly injured.

Let's face it, he's more of a liability than an asset at this current time. Who's to say he stays healthy in 2011 for the tune of $6 million?

He doesn't deserve it. Barnett was primarily, some will argue (I sure will), for the Packers not advancing in the 2004 NFC Playoffs on the infamous 4th and 26 play late in the game against Philadelphia.

Not only did he not do his job there, since then he hasn't been much better. Very few interceptions, less tackles, less sacks and an overall lack of effort.

In my opinion, he has definitely regressed as a player since 2005. He had an average, at best career, made a few Pro Bowls, scored one touchdown and anchored the middle of the defense, but sorry Nick it's time to move on. Matthews, Bishop, Hawk and Walden (among others) are all excited (and very willing) to take your spot and move on without you.

Barnett has since taken his Twitter page down so he won't be doing many Tweets, I suspect, until after The Big Game Sunday (Packers vs. Steelers in Super Bowl XLV, Sunday).
