The Packers Practice Squad Will Return Intact

This is the kind of hot stove transaction news that gets every fan's attention. The Green Bay Packers have signed eight players from their practice squad, and one from their injured reserve, to future contracts. Yes, that first sentence is total sarcasm.

This isn't big news, but it means all these players will get at least one more shot with the team in mini-camps this spring. That's assuming the lock out is over by the end of April. The players signed are WR Chastin West, G Adrian Battles, S Michael Greco, WR Antonio Robinson, LB Cardia Jackson, S Anthony Levine, DE Curtis Young, T Chris Campbell, and DT Jay Ross

Though none of those players had an impact on the field in the Super Bowl, I saw many of them at media events. They remained part of the team throughout the season. But if a die-hard Packers blogger doesn't have any questions for them, then it's obvious that the major media isn't very interested in either.

Is "hot stove" a good term to use for football's off-season?

Maybe “shorts weather”? Or “mosquito-bite”?

Nothing against Brandon, since everybody uses it, but I’ve always thought the term hot stove was annoying. …like everything about baseball.

“The hot stove league” sounds like something a grizzled 1840s prospector would come up with. “Con-sarn it, we need a hot stove in here, my tuberculosis is acting up. Jeb, put down that Winchester and fetch me some coal.”

Didn’t they call tuberculosis “consumption” back then?

I’d like to ask some of the players what they do in practice – such as, do they try to imitate other players’ style and tendencies when practicing as the upcoming opponent’s offense/defense to go up against our defense/offense? For instance, did Levine try to imitate Polamalu in practice against the offense before the Super Bowl? Or, “do you have any friends that can return kicks?”
