Around SBN: NFL Players Ready To Welcome Gay Teammate

Congratulations

I would like to congratulate the Green Bay Packers football team, players, coaches, front office, owners and fans on their Super Bowl victory today. It was well earned.

Star-divide

I would also like to thank those folks from Acme Packing Company who have been chatting with us at Behind the Steel Curtain these last two weeks. It has been a pleasure. Hopefully we can renew the conversation in 351 days, give or take a few.

I didn't expect this.

Most Steelers fan are crying in their pillows right now. Thanks.

Rick Ross is an intriguing NFL prospect because of his combination of speed and size. He projects as a Nose Tackle in the 3-4. His upside is the reason the Panthers will select Ross #1 overall in the 2011 NFL Draft.

Your team earned the respect

You can talk history all you want, but its what you put out on the field that matters.

The Steelers don’t need to be embarrassed, they lost to a great team.

Look out next time…because there will be a next time

;)

But you keep pulling out your "refs-threw-the-game" card if that’s what you need for catharsis. You can use that card after every loss. It is a lifetime pass. Get it laminated. -Maryrose

The True Fans of Steeler Nation are Damn Proud.

Not many (media, haters) had us better than 7-9 this year, and we were a play away from making a difference in XLV, but alas that is not how history will be remembered.

Big Props to The Pack!

I as well.

I was in Arlington at a Pub mighty close to the stadium. After the game, as I walked/celebrated my way to the stadium I counted how many Steelers fans were jerks. Answer: 4. Of the thousands of Steeler fans I passed, 4. Many congratulated many just passed, 4 were jerks. That’s an awesome ratio Steeler fans. I would hope the Pack fans would represent our team in the same manner.

by gavitron9 on Feb 8, 2011 4:06 PM CST up reply actions

Well, 4 is pretty bad, considering the Packers won

Though, who knows if those 4 were true Steelers fans?

by Wiedmann on Feb 8, 2011 7:42 PM CST up reply actions

4 is not bad...

I’m glad to hear of all the fans he passed by only four were jerks. It goes to show how exaggerated a lot of fans (from all fanbases) can be when they say “all _ fans are jerks”. “All” is clearly not true, and even “many” in most cases is way off.

I have not yet begun to procrastinate.

You guys have been really cool over here.

Sure, sometimes it got a little snipey at each other. That is expected during the biggest game of the year. I really never had any interaction with any Steeler fan before, and a lot of you guys exceeded my expectation of a solid fanbase. All you of exude class and prestige, and you guys really are world-class fans.

Great game from a great team and a classy organization. In all honesty us Steeler fans had a hard time finding something about your team to dislike, and you played a hell of a game and deserved to win.

Seriously, let’s do a rematch next year.

The Steelers are an amazing team. Going for 7 Superbowls? Think about it, 19 Titles were on the field in this game. the 6 the Steelers have, and now the 13 that the Packers own.

And I hope every Packer fan out there wins as graciously as the Steelers fans are showing themselves to be. You have every right to be proud of your team. No excuses necessary. I thought for the entire second half that we were eventually going to loose. I was so worried that for about 3 hours afterwards, I felt sick. Within 5 years, the Steel City will have #7. As much as I loved him at WI...

…I don’t know how well he fits in our scheme. Too small for a 3-4 DE, and we shouldn’t have to wait for a 1st rounder to bulk up before he gets significant playing time. Besides, he more than likely will not be there at 32 anyway.

13.

by Wiedmann on Feb 8, 2011 2:27 AM CST up reply actions

JJ Watt

is actually the top rated 3-4 DE by Mike Mayock. He’s 288 lbs, right? Basically 290 lbs is the limit, so all Watt has to do is gain a couple more pounds. I think he’s the 5th rated overall DE, but #1 for 3-4 DE’s according to Mayock. I just saw that on the NFL Network.

by Wiedmann on Feb 8, 2011 7:39 PM CST up reply actions

He likely won't come to Green Bay

JJ Watt fits the RE position of the 3-4, which requires a big guy, but also someone quick enough to get after the QB. The LE is usally a fill in and 2nd NT. JJ Watt is too small to play NT or LE, but is at a good size to play RE and play in the Nickel Package inside for a 3-4 Defense. Considering we hopefully have Cullen Jenkins resigned and Mike Neal behind him, I doubt we will target JJ Watt.

Or

shift Cullen to the other side. He has more than enough power to make for little bit of size he lacks. The Mike Neal thing is still there though. I guess, if push comes to shove, we could just try to get Casey Matthews for the other OLB position instead. Can you imgaine the chemistry in our LB corps?

by Wiedmann on Feb 9, 2011 2:04 AM CST up reply actions

Is it worth spending a 1st Round Pick on a situational player?

Mike Neal showed his explosiveness and power while on the field last year, even in the limited time he was available. I’m confident he will be a find replacement for Jenkins in a few years, but would prefer to resign Jenkins while he’s still good. By doing this, we have Raji, Jenkins, and Neal availalbe as interior pass rushers (1 of which to rotate). Unless Watt falls big time in the draft, I don’t see the value in drafting him. I’m very high on Neal and can’t wait to see him in action again. The man is insanely strong and a quick burst off the line. He’s the ideal pass rusher for us once Jenkins is done.

If we want to spend an early pick on a pass rusher, it should be at OLB. This would be a player that would get far more playing time and will allow Dom Capers to be even more creative with his schemes.

Has been listed at 6’6", 292 all season. And his frame is such that he could easily put on an extra 15 pounds.

True!

Even in loss the Steelers are a Dynasty, which is why this loss doesn’t sting so bad. We were a play away but couldn’t get it done. This game exposed a weakness (which is repairable) which Rodgers was able to exploit. Rodgers is f’ing amazing. Big Props!

Trolls from other teams oozed over to BTSC and tried to rub it in but the general feeling was good, we are so damned proud of this team, the crap they had to get over this year, much like yours with all the injuries. The trolls bounced, I was embarrassed for them (looking at you Malor lol!)

This game scared the crap out of me. I wasn’t nervous for it but man I wasn’t confident we’d pull it off. When Ben got the ball back with 2 min, I almost crapped myself picturing all the blown games early in the season but the Packers D came through.

Thanks for being a good sport though (meant for the original poster). I get so frustrated when people can’t be a good sport about stuff…especially when its a game you aren’t even playing in! I mean my wife was sulking all night, I wanted to look at her and say ITS NOT EVEN YOUR DAMN TEAM, HAVE SOME CLASS HERE HONEY!!!! Give us this day, a stellar D and forgive us our bogus fines, as we (sorta) forgive Goodell who trespasses against us. And lead us not into defeat, but deliver us a Victory. For thine is The Steelers, the power and glory of climbing the STAIRWAY TO 7."

Thanks Steelers fans

There seems to be a correlation: Rooney = classy owner; Pittsburgh fans = classy fans. Jerry Jones = not my favorite owner; Cowboys fans = not my favorite fans.

Your team has a bright past, recent past, present, and seemingly bright future. I like Tomlin and I hope that over the next couple decades we see the McCarthy-Tomlin Super Bowl rivalry become a yearly tradition.

Here, here on Tomlin

I love that guy. His responses to the defeat are so spot on. In particular, I liked the response he gave when asked to assess Big Ben’s performance. He said something like: It was the same as mine, a losing performance. There is no sugar-coating with Tomlin. Losing does not meet his standards and you can tell he will use it to make every effort to avoid losing in the future.

Tomlin is a good coach

I know he used to be Minnesota’s Defensive Coordinatory, but he honestly doesn’t seem like an X’s and O’s kind of guy. He simply looks like a great motivator. Above all else, he’s a player’s coach and is the kind of coach any player would love to play for. He only accepts winning, but takes losses with dignity and respect. There’s no question that Tomlin is a solid Head Coach.

This will be a season long remembered.

It has seen the last of the Brad Childress, and it will soon see the end of Brett Favre.

Yeah, didn't we have someone yell at us

for going off on a Star Wars threadjacking a couple weeks ago?

Speaking of movies, during the offseason I usually do a movie post a week. Different genre every time. I make a list (usually top 10, but sometimes 15 if it’s a genre I particularly enjoy), and everyone puts their lists in the comments.

Then, we debate the merits of each movie. It’s also a good way to discover movies that you might not have watched before hearing about them in the thread.

I’m also thinking about doing up a “worst movies you have ever seen” series as well. Same basic premise, but movies you hated.

Most of you are invited to come around and participate in these threads, if you want.

But keep in mind, I subscribe to a totally different style of thought. As in, I’m a lifelong Wisconsin fan who can and WILL irritate the hell out of any Buckeyes/Wolverines you have on BTSC.

I do like Penn State, though. And that’s because of all the crazies on BSD who’ve “adopted” me…

We're all fans of football

Some might get on your nerves, but that’s kind of to be expected when there are so many personalities clumped together in one place.

There’s always that one guy (or girl, gotta be fair) in a group, that just gets under your skin that you can’t stand to be around. It’s like that in every aspect of life.

LOL

No way Tomlin would pull that! Only the desperate fools would sign an old QB that gives false senses of hope every year.

I couldn't believe Ziggy let Chilly do that

They had three young QB’s that were still developing (on the cheap, too), and he lets Chilly bring in a QB that’s older than Al Davis. Now they have a burned out old QB, that “might retire”, Patrick Ramsey, Rhett Bomar and Joe Webb. 4 QB’s? REALLY? Idiots.

Childress was just a bad idea from the get. I could never like the guy. He just seemed like a little bald shit, and that was only reinforced by how he handled the Moss thing.

Oh I get it now

Silly Arrested Development. David Cross is brilliant, however. Have you ever seen his “Mr. Show”? I think that’s the name…I haven’t had cable for 4 years.

Mr Show is brilliant

Its Bob Odenkirk who really steals the seals, IMO.

Yeah, Odenkirk

I couldn’t remember who the other guy was.

Was it Steve Odekirk, or Bob Odenkirk that did Kung Pow: Enter the Fist?

You know, a dude trying to run a modified West Coast offense through Tarvaris Jackson, Kelly Holcomb and Brooks Bollinger probably shouldn’t throw the first stone when we’re talking about ‘downside.’

My favorite:
George can QB as well if not better than Childress can coach.

George couldn’t throw his way out of a wet paper bag…Says a little something about Chilly…

We need a QB and George isn’t it. Perhaps Childress wants J.George in the same fantsy he is in and mabe hes not insulting him…..lol
