Johnny Jolly Charged With Possession AGAIN

PROMOTED: Here's the link to the JSOnline.com post on the report that Green Bay Packers DE Johnny Jolly was busted (again) for felony possession. I can't imagine there's any chance he'll be reinstated in 2011. Apparently I should have kept my mouth shut.

Don't expect Johnny Jolly in green and gold in 2011, this could be the end.

Star-divide

"Houston police stopped Jolly’s Escalade for a traffic violation at 12:45 a.m. on the 9900 block of Westpark. Jolly presented a state identification card rather than a driver’s license, and police learned that his license is suspended and is not eligible for renewal.

While searching the vehicle, police discovered that Jolly was in possession of 600 grams of Codeine, which is a felony charge. Police also discovered another unidentified substance, which has been sent in for testing."

simple analysis: Jolly is an idiot.  Will this impact the Packers plan's going into the draft?

WTF

What is with this guy. Jackass

by Yankees10 on Mar 25, 2011 1:20 PM CDT reply actions

What a waste

He has the talent to make it big in the NFL and even elsewhere than GB though he has just burned his last bridge as far as I am concerned, unless a Bengals team takes a chance on him I am thinking Jolly is done for good.

I don't think the Bengals will have a chance to tak him

He was suspended for a year and was just applying to get off suspension. Goodell’s going to kick him out of the game.

Maybe we can use his salary to resign Jenkins. With Jolly & Harrell we need help on the DL.

Does this mean we have to re-sign Jones

This shocked me a little bit at first,

but then I realized this was kind of typical behavior out of any drug user/drug dealer. To have that much codeine in a vehicle is really shocking. He obviously isn’t primarily using it, he is selling it. The courts gave him a second chance and he slapped the judge in the face. He will never play football professionally again and he doesn’t deserve another chance IMO. He is facing 20 years in prison and will more than likely be sentenced by the same judge that let him go lightly the first time around. The judge will not let that happen again. No wonder why teams are so crazy about having players with “high character.” Goodbye Johnny Jolly, can’t say it was a pleasure.

Nice of him to do this BEFORE the draft.

At least now the team won’t entertain any delusions that he’ll contribute next year (or ever). It would have sucked if they’d counted on him and passed by a good DL in this deep draft, only to have him get arrested afterward.

Took one for the team, he did. What a guy.

I think Jenkins is still gone! Other side of the DL… Its gonna force the Packers to move LDE up on the priority list tho. Wilkerson just became more likely.

You've been Stroh'd™!!!

by Strohman on Mar 25, 2011 4:38 PM CDT up reply actions

Neal is still a RE

He will also most likely be a pass rushing DT in the nickel. RE and LE are two different body types in the 34. But yeah, were gonna need him to play good next season.

Starting lineup is looking like Neal – Raji – Pickett. Agree with Stroh though, Wilkerson is looking more and more like the pick. I hear his stock is on the rise though.

by Shoes31 on Mar 25, 2011 8:46 PM CDT up reply actions

Actually

I was looking over some stuff, and Neal filled in for Pickett when he was hurt and Jenkins was healthy. Maybe he or Wilson could step in at LE making it less of a need?

by Shoes31 on Mar 25, 2011 8:59 PM CDT up reply actions

I think Neal was already on IR

By the time Pickett missed games… Could be wrong. Either way Neal is much more suited for Jenkins position than he is for LDE!

Jolly

Can’t say I’m stunned but really expected Jolly was going to turn it around! At least it happened before the draft. Packers have time to make adjustments to cover for Jolly’s stupidity!!! Have to move DE to near the top of the priority list. Looking more and more like Wilkerson might be the pick at 32. He was already in the conversation and this news just makes it that much more likely.

Too bad for Jolly. Hoped he would stay clean for his own sake… Slums claim another life! Not that I feel particularly sorry for him…

The Bright Side

This has been said a few different times and a few different ways….but here are some of the positives from this:

1. Neal and Wilson are getting healthy and have showed something.
2. This happened pretty damn early for this weird offseason and so the Pack aren’t scrambling.
3. Jolly’s appearance was something a bonus for the Pack, so really TT was playing with house money on his coming back or leaving….thus we aren’t losing much.
4. We don’t have to worry about a dumbass headbutting penalty again in close games.

This really brings up the question

How do you deal with repeat offenders? I really hope Jolly’s attorneys are good, because his sentence will undoubtedly be longer and more severe this time.

I can’t even see him fitting in with Oakland or Cincinnati (he definitely has the reputation to go there given the issues guys on those teams have). This being said, I don’t think he’ll ever play in the NFL again.

I think Jolly, and really Pickett for that matter, are products of the defense we run. It fits them perfectly. Both are big guys, who don’t provide any push but also don’t get pushed back much because of their size. I really don’t think it should be too hard to replace either of them, and hopefully we’ll eventually upgrade from both of them by getting a guy who can hold against the run, and also offer a bit of a pass rush.

07’ and 08’? I guess we’ll just have to agree to disagree. The biggest weakness of our defense in the 4-3 was right up the gut. I can’t even remember how many times I saw him get completely pushed out of the play. Both he and Pickett were extremely average players in the 4-3 defense imo.

by packallday555 on Mar 26, 2011 11:06 AM CDT up reply actions

‘07 season the DL play was one of the strengths of the team. They had a deep DL and everybody was valuable and had a role! Jolly was the starter over Williams that year at DT and played well in base D w/ Williams coming in on pass downs. That worked very well till Jolly got injured and Williams had to play alot of snaps down the stretch and didn’t produce!

’08 was a disaster of a season on the DL… Williams gone and Harrell out.. Really hurt our rotation… Think Pickett missed some games that year too. Happeded to get Sanders fired Thankfully, otherwise we might not have gotten Dom!!!

You've been Stroh'd™!!!

by Strohman on Mar 26, 2011 11:17 AM CDT up reply actions

I think the other side of the coin in 07 was the Offense took the lead allowing the defense to be more aggressive, in 08 even though the Offense was efficient I remember that it sometimes started slow and made the Defense have to do more than it was capable of, especially with little depth and injuries (and Bob Sanders being < to Dom)

Wait a sec...

The police said that his license was suspended since 2007. How did they miss that fact in 2008 when they pulled him over and found codeine in his car?

Wow, shame

Regardless of team, you hate to see a guy with all the talent in the world to piss his career away like that. Hope he gets his life in order.

Kinda hard to do that in prison don't you think?

He broke his probation from his 1st arrest. I always liked him, but some guys just have demons.

Hard yes. Impossible no.

Former tight end Mike Barber runs a great prison ministry in Texas that includes numerous success stories. Hopefully Jolly can be one of them.

The goverment

Just one theory on why social deviants stay deviant to the norm. This is in reference to the low number of success stories for people turning their lives around.

Gotcha... And agree.

Thought you were accusing me of labeling him…

by Strohman on Mar 27, 2011 8:55 PM CDT up reply actions

It talks about why the majority of deviants stay deviant

The state labels a certain behavior as “criminal”. A person commits that behavior and thus is a “criminal” and is punished as one, typically with jail time. So you throw that person into jail with other “criminals”. What you have now done is put a bunch of “criminals” together, creating and reinforcing a deviant culture. Thus once that persons time is done, he/she exits the jail with a label as a “criminal” and having spent x months with other “criminals”. Sound like a great way to reform people?

This has been taken further to address how society responds to “criminals”. This includes the affect of that label on getting jobs, loans, houses, how neighbors and friends react to you, etc.

At least that’s how I remember it from my criminology class a while back.

Hmm, that’s actually a pretty interesting theory. Thanks for sharing that.

Of course not...

But considering all the gang action going on in prisons they have ALOT more to worry about than improving themselves… Like staying alive! Rehabbiilitation in prison is a joke!

Unless you want to run a winery.

Then you can create fantastic mixed drink recipes featuring these ingredients:

A Sealable Bag (Ziploc or a heavy-duty garbage bag with rubber bands)
10 Peeled Oranges
1 8oz Can of Fruit Cocktail
50 Sugar Cubes
6 Teaspoons of Ketchup
Tap Water (I just googled this Strohman – no really)

Yes

Whats even more yummy sounding is that the mixture is – lol I’ll just give you the link. But from I’ve seen and read, if you’re sentenced to prison for any length of time, you basically learn to “live off the land” so to speak.

Similar to what Caretaker did

in “The Longest Yard”. Caretaker (James Hampton) also played Michael J Fox’s dad in the 1985 movie “Teen Wolf”, which is mildly interesting and I didn’t realize till now.
