APC Open Thread #6: Where Butler Has Made Back-to-Back Final Fours
Hold on here: Brad Stevens's 2009-2011 Butler teams are the only ones in the history of Indiana college basketball to have made Back to Back Final Fours. THE ONLY ONES.
Not even Bob Knight did that.
If you can get something at a small school with almost no athletic budget that not even Bob Knight had with then-powerhouse IU...well, that's amazing.
The Open Thread For the Coming Days. March Madness approaches its end, Baseball prepares to kick off (which means I have to brace myself for the day the Brewers lose to the Pirates. Again!)

If you think of yourselves as helpless and ineffectual, it is certain that you will create a despotic government to be your master. The wise despot, therefore, maintains among his subjects a popular sense that they are helpless and ineffectual.

I like VCU over Butler too. They defend so well, especially in the post. I think they’ll be able to slow Howard down like they were able to do with the Morris twins’.

Pieter,
what direction were you thinking of going? What was on top of your list?
Go Suns, Packers, Jays, and Huskers!
Green Bay Packers: Super Bowl XLV Champions!!!!
This was my list
Aldon Smith, J.J.Watt, Cameron Jordan, Derek Sherrod, Tyron Smith, Mike Pouncey, Gabe Carimi, Justin Houston, Muhammad Wilkerson, Cameron Heyward
You like Sherrod that high?
he might be available, unless he goes to the Bears.
Go Suns, Packers, Jays, and Huskers!
Green Bay Packers: Super Bowl XLV Champions!!!!
I know I have him higher than most
let’s see. I like Obrien’s list too.
I was trying to be a little realistic.
Given where we pick, I fully expect Costanzo, Carimi, and Solder to be gone. Of those three, I’d most prefer to have Carimi.
Does that make sense?

Ah, okay
I think it’s more realistic to have Solder fall to us than Carimi, so if I were putting together a potential list I’d have him on it. but I get where you’re coming from. I think Solder is the most likely to be there of the three, and I would take Costanzo if I had a choice.
13.
Here's my first round list...
Gabe Carimi, OT, Wisconsin
Justin Houston, OLB, UGA
Cameron Heyward, DE/DT, Ohio State
Torrey Smith, WR, Maryland
Adrian Clayborn, DE/DT, Iowa
Mike Pouncey, OG, Florida
Corey Liuget, DE/DT, Illinois
Stefen Wisniewski, OG/C, Penn State
Rodney Hudson, OG/C, Florida State
Derek Sherrod, OT, Mississippi State
Carimi’s the only one gone thus far.

Mix of key position and BPA
I did not expect most of these guys to last obviously.
Trade ideas are a must.
TT usually moves around a bit.
My idea was to send Green Bay’s 2nd and 4th round picks to Miami to move up in the 2nd round. Got any others?

An interior OL for that team is a must.

They wanted to get a guy to play opposite their stud like us.
But Kerrigan at OLB might be a little iffy and they have a lot more needs than we do.
Go Suns, Packers, Jays, and Huskers!
Green Bay Packers: Super Bowl XLV Champions!!!!
I find it seriously hard to believe that they'll pass on an interior linemen in the next round.
That’s something that they need. But they’ve gone defense-heavy in the first round (Tyson Jackson, Glenn Dorsey, Derrick Johnson, Tamba Hali, and Eric Berry). This pick doesn’t totally surprise me.

Should we try and
jump ahead of saints to steal ingram? the idea is tempting. at the same time we could easily fill a need sitting at #64
I don't see Ingram nearly as much of a need, though.
It would be very nice if he fell right to where we draft, but I’ve not gotten a really good look from the Colts (we’d have to give up our 2nd and 3rd rounders to move up to 53, and that would mean we miss out on the later interior OL and CBs (Moffitt at 96 would be a good pick, but we can’t make it if we don’t HAVE the pick).
At this point, I’m willing to go with the picks we have and make the deals tomorrow.

Not bad.
I wouldn’t take any C unless he is also able to play G. Versatility is awesome, especially when you already have a pretty decent C that has stayed pretty healthy.
Go Suns, Packers, Jays, and Huskers!
Green Bay Packers: Super Bowl XLV Champions!!!!
That's what I'm not sure about when it comes to Barnes.
Has he played center? Can he play center? I don’t know.
Moffitt, on the other hand…I KNOW he can play center.

I was also watching the cricket
surprised to see that there were others into cricket here.
Anyways…my list for round 3
Clint Boling, James Brewer, Christian Ballard, Randall Cobb, Ras-I Dowling, Curtis Marsh, John Moffitt, Casey Matthews, Kevin Sheppard, Jabal Sheard
Crossing guys already taken off the list...
Ballard, Cobb, Dowling, Matthews, and Sheard.
That leaves Boling, Brewer, Marsh, and Moffitt. I’d cross off Sheppard (we have pretty good ILBs already), though.

What do you think of Greg Little?
His skill set is perfect for WCO
has issues
but great ability. Worth a shot here actually.
Eh, I think there are better receivers available.
We should go CB or OL with this pick. The last of the good CBs are going to be gone by the end of this round (Chekwa, Gilchrist).

if he is there. I heard Jeff Maehl struggled in drills on his Pro Day so not so hot in him (kept slipping and could not finish one of the drills).
It was the 3 cone that kept giving him troubles.

Not in the parts I watched. I think she had like 36 points, and was right around 50% from the field.

Huh.
Last time they lost she had like 15 points on a ton of shots I believe. I guess you do need more than one star. Losing Tina Charles (WNBA ROY I believe) really hurt I guess.

Yeah, Notre Dame went on a little stretch where they couldn’t miss from 3 so that helped quite a bit.

Too bad they couldn't hit any shots....
they were at 16.3% from the field at one point & trailing by only 11.

The truly sad thing is
Calhoun will likely be forced to forfeit this title, and this entire regular season. The guy was on probation, for heaven’s sake. If the NCAA had a backbone, they’d have slammed him out of the NCAA Tournament itself.
But because UConn’s a cash cow of the basketball world? Nothing. NOTHING.

That looked like a Wisconsin basketball game lol. I wish Butler would have shot like that against the Badgers, sigh.
Oh well, I like UConn. Yeah, Calhoun broke some rules, blah, blah, blah. The guy is a good coach, and made some tremendous second half adjustments.

Keanu's accent is atrocious
And any Rolling Stones song from ‘67-’72 is pretty much good for me in any flick. I wish two things: That it had come out earlier (no Keanu and maybe get in before Pacino’s “phoning it in” phase, which continues to this day), and that Scorsese had directed it. It would have cut down on the ridiculousness by about 2/3.

That seems to be what most Cubs fans are thinking.
Most of them seem to be counting the days until Fukodome and Soriano can be gone. I actually had one friend last year who jokingly (I hope) offered to trade Soriano straight up for Suppan.

I think it had more to say about how worth less and frustratingly overpaid both players were to their franchises than anything else.
Plus one on the Sox. I used to like them when they were the underdogs, but they and their fans are acting more and more Yankee-like by the day.
"I'm tired of pretending I'm not a rock star from Mars."
Trust me,
I live among lots of Red Sox fans, and I can attest to that. What you see above is a photoshop I made for a Yankees fan I work with.
