APC Open Thread #6: Where Butler Has Made Back-to-Back Final Fours

Hold on here: Brad Stevens's 2009-2011 Butler teams are the only ones in the history of Indiana college basketball to have made Back to Back Final Fours. THE ONLY ONES.

Not even Bob Knight did that.

If you can get something at a small school with almost no athletic budget that not even Bob Knight had with then-powerhouse IU...well, that's amazing.

The Open Thread For the Coming Days. March Madness approaches its end, Baseball prepares to kick off (which means I have to brace myself for the day the Brewers lose to the Pirates. Again!)

/ducks from THE WRATH OF TED SIMMONS SPEED CAMP®

Rules of the thread:

NO POLITICS

NO RELIGION

NO THREATS

NO NAME-CALLING OTHER POSTERS ON THIS BLOG

Absolutely NO SAYING YOU'RE THE FIRST PERSON TO POST

With those rules in mind, have fun.

Tip #1 as to NOT get banned from SBNation itself

Don’t EVER, under any circumstances, post the picture of an admin, and then accuse them of being a pedofile.

It was so awful, it wasn’t funny at all. There are people who deserve to get banned, and R4F was one of them.

I like VCU over Butler too. They defend so well, especially in the post. I think they’ll be able to slow Howard down like they were able to do with the Morris twins’.

I've been thinking that we move up a little bit in the 2nd round.

Maybe try and bundle that with the 4th round pick for Miami’s 2nd round selection. I’d like to see who’s left in the 1st before making that decision, though.

I was trying to be a little realistic.

Given where we pick, I fully expect Costanzo, Carimi, and Solder to be gone. Of those three, I’d most prefer to have Carimi.

Does that make sense?

Ah, okay

I think it’s more realistic to have Solder fall to us than Carimi, so if I were putting together a potential list I’d have him on it. but I get where you’re coming from. I think Solder is the most likely to be there of the three, and I would take Costanzo if I had a choice.

Here's my first round list...

Gabe Carimi, OT, Wisconsin
Justin Houston, OLB, UGA
Cameron Heyward, DE/DT, Ohio State
Torrey Smith, WR, Maryland
Adrian Clayborn, DE/DT, Iowa
Mike Pouncey, OG, Florida
Corey Liuget, DE/DT, Illinois
Stefen Wisniewski, OG/C, Penn State
Rodney Hudson, OG/C, Florida State
Derek Sherrod, OT, Mississippi State

Carimi’s the only one gone thus far.

I find it seriously hard to believe that they'll pass on an interior linemen in the next round.

That’s something that they need. But they’ve gone defense-heavy in the first round (Tyson Jackson, Glenn Dorsey, Derrick Johnson, Tamba Hali, and Eric Berry). This pick doesn’t totally surprise me.

Should we try and

jump ahead of saints to steal ingram? the idea is tempting. at the same time we could easily fill a need sitting at #64

by pieterzen on Apr 1, 2011 9:53 PM CDT up reply actions

I don't see Ingram nearly as much of a need, though.

It would be very nice if he fell right to where we draft, but I’ve not gotten a really good look from the Colts (we’d have to give up our 2nd and 3rd rounders to move up to 53, and that would mean we miss out on the later interior OL and CBs (Moffitt at 96 would be a good pick, but we can’t make it if we don’t HAVE the pick).

At this point, I’m willing to go with the picks we have and make the deals tomorrow.

Ixnay on Austin.

Not only would he have to break into a completely different scheme, he also got the boot from a Butch Davis coached team (which should be just about impossible to do) and hasn’t played football in over a year. Ballard is a safer pick, IMO.

I've got

Roy Helu, Tandon Doss, Terrel McClain, Willie Smith, Kendric Burney, Jordan Toddman, Andrew Jackson, Cedric Thornton, Zach Hurd, Dwayne Harris

Not sure who all are gone from that list

by pieterzen on Apr 3, 2011 12:13 PM CDT up reply actions

Hmmm...

Hurd was taken by the Panthers (the compensatory selection after we picked up Clint Boling), the Bears took Tandon Doss. I think Kendric Burney’s also gone, but I’m not sure.

Justin Boren’s still available, as are Maehl and Titus Young, I believe.

Take Titus Young

if he is there. I heard Jeff Maehl struggled in drills on his Pro Day so not so hot in him (kept slipping and could not finish one of the drills).

by pieterzen on Apr 3, 2011 12:28 PM CDT up reply actions

It was the 3 cone that kept giving him troubles.

Otherwise, he half 33 and a half inch vertical, 4.65 40, 3.95 short shuttle.

At the combine he destroyed the 3 cone drill. Hopefully he can bulk up some and not lose his quickness.

Young is gone. I think Greg Salas form Hawai would be good fit.

I would sooner take David Gilreath with the 32nd pick in the 7th round than Salas in the 5th. How about Daniel Thomas or Dion Lewis here?

And any Rolling Stones song from ‘67-’72 is pretty much good for me in any flick. I wish two things: That it had come out earlier (no Keanu and maybe get in before Pacino’s “phoning it in” phase, which continues to this day), and that Scorsese had directed it. It would have cut down on the ridiculousness by about 2/3.

Plus one on the Sox. I used to like them when they were the underdogs, but they and their fans are acting more and more Yankee-like by the day.
