With no obvious need, when it came time for the Green Bay Packers to select in the SB Nation NFL writers mock draft at Mocking The Draft, I selected Mississippi State OL Derek Sherrod.
As Dan Kadar mentions in the post, it's not fair that the Packers can sit back and choose from the quality players that slip to the bottom of the round. I don't really expect that they'll have their choice of Sherrod, or Iowa's DE Adrian Clayborn, at the end of the 1st round, but it's nice to speculate. Sherrod is just a solid, future left tackle prospect, who could be very valuable by 2013 if LT Chad Clifton is retired. I'm a big fan of Clayborn, but his Erb's Palsy does give me a little pause.
Basically this is the benefit that's hard to determine. There should be one or two good options for the Packers at the end of the 1st round, but it's hard to tell who it will be.
