I haven't paid a lot of attention to the other NFC North teams while trying to decide who the Green Bay Packers should select in the upcoming draft. Each of them could use help at multiple positions, so there are options for each team.
In the ESPN blog network mock draft, Kevin Seifert chose TCU QB Andy Dalton for the Vikings. He's already gotten teased about the pick by an unnamed colleague, but he's got a point. If the Vikings wait for a quarterback in the second round, the pickings are going to be slim. SB Nation expects six quarterbacks to be drafted in the first round.
About the Vikings, Seifert said "they won't move forward as a franchise without beginning the process of building toward a long-term answer at the position." It's ironic he picked Dalton because he wore Number 14 in college, and he reminds me of another quarterback who wore that number for the Vikings: QB Brad Johnson. That's not a high ceiling, but they might be happy with 10+ years of that type of player. As for our SB Nation mock draft, they said the Vikings would select Auburn DT Nick Fairley. His arrival would come at the same time that DE Ray Edwards is expected to depart, so any addition Fairley brings as a pass rusher would be offset by the loss of Edwards.
Back to ESPN, Seifert chose Nebraska CB Prince Amukamara for the Lions. Their secondary could use the help because they're looking at starting former Bears CB Nathan Vasher otherwise. Amukamara wouldn't be available in our SB Nation mock draft, so they have the Lions trading down and selecting Clemson DE Da'Quan Bowers. I'm a big fan of the Lions defensive line as-is, so I don't see how they've gotten much better by adding Bowers.
For the Bears, ESPN has them selecting Wisconsin OT Gabe Carimi. In nearly every mock draft, it seems like the Bears are always drafting an offensive lineman. But they could use help on the defensive line and at wide receiver, so I'm not 100% sold on them at offensive line. Over at SB Nation, they selected Baylor G Danny Watkins, who would be an excellent pick for them too.
