Kick Returner To Visit Packers

Stay connected for news and updates

When I read that the Green Bay Packers had an upcoming visit scheduled with Utah WR Antoine Smithston, at first he looked like an interesting wide receiver project with some value as a kick returner. But it appears that his only value so far has been as a returner in college. From the National Football Post:

The Walter Camp All-American selection ran in the low 4.5 range at his Pro Day workout. The 5-foot-11, 202-pounder led the nation with a 19.72 punt return average and had four 100-yard punt return games. He returned two punts for touchdowns and was named second-team All-Mountain West Conference.

Without any mention of him as a receiver. According to CBSSports.com, he's barely on the radar as the No. 67 overall wide receiver prospect. But apparently he's shown something special on film as a kick and punt returner to earn a couple visits from NFL teams. And the Packers could certainly use an upgrade at returner.
