where is Mr. Rodgers?

even tony romo is organizing team work-outs. where is A-Rod? i must be missing the article that lets us know that the Packer players are having an off-site workout together. i might miss one but the jets, saints (who we open against), cowboys, ravens etc...all of there QB's are organizing off-site work outs/ get to know you again secessions. where is Mr. Rodgers? i do hope that they are not awaiting the delivery of their rings. don't get me wrong here. i'm just asking...how hungry are they? heck, they won't even get their rings until the season starts. are they still hungry enough to repeat?

First, I kindly ask that you use the shift key

when capital letters are the norm.

Second, I think the player workouts are more of a PR move by the players. I mean Drew Bress practically held a media day at his. I wouldn’t put too much stock in the importance of them. The team wins because of the talent and hard work, yes, but just as much if not more because of our great coaching staff. As AJ puts it in that interview on the front page, it’s mostly about bonding with teammates. I personally don’t believe anyone is gaining a true advantage with these team workouts.

All is vanity.

I use punctuation to emphasize what I want to. I might overemphasize at times, but thats not bad grammar.

So women wouldn’t say it? What a stupid comment to make dude. What does being a woman have to do with it.

For the record, you are wrong. I meant it as a broad statement that applies to anyone who does cutesy things to try to make themselves stand out, I guess that would include you then too. Is that “man” enough for you?

I actually do have a "style" I like to write my blogs in. I have only written one here but i write fairly often on the Silver and Black Pride.

I like to write in bold for the first line, and then bold and italic for the second line. It usually involves a joke for the second line thats related to the first. Is that the type of “Cutesy” stuff you mean? I like doing it because i like the way it looks lol

Offseason workouts

McCarthy wasn’t planning on bringing the Packers in for offseason workouts and OTA’s until after the draft. I think most of the players were waiing for that time to come before scheduling anything amongst themselves. Packers played alot longer last season than most teams, so it makes sense that they would wait longer to get started on organized workouts. If this goes into June, then I can see someone, and Rodgers and Woodson would be the most likely to take charge, starting some organized workouts. Mostly tho I think they are for PR reasons and the players already workout on their own. Its not like getting together is gonna help w/ learning techniques much or anything like that. The player organized workouts aren’t like OTA’s where they work on technique, study film or those learning tools. I think its just to get together as a team and stay in shape.

This.

The Cowboys stopped playing one month before the Packers. The Saints one week after that. Why aren’t reports from the Steelers working?

Not only that, but those practices aren’t serious. There’s no tempo to them, there’re no pads, and there’s noone coaching them. Plus the facilities aren’t top notch. Like Lombardi said, practice doesn’t make perfect, only perfect practice makes perfect.

All of these player organized activities are just a way to bond the players together and evolve some kind of chemistry. It can work to keep players in shape, and it can work to form QB/WR chemistry, but Rodgers has plenty of chemistry with his receivers.

The Packers core has been together for 5 years. They have overcome adversity, gone through hell and back together. Do you think they need to bond?

Not to mention that it seems that in almost offseason there are skirmiches. Do we really want to see those happening without coaches around? Do we want to see some cliques forming?

What I worry are players not keeping in shape. But, like I said, the Packers have been working out one month longer than almost everybody else.

Wake me up when may ends…

by PackersRS on May 11, 2011 2:07 PM CDT up reply actions

But I don't think it hurts either...

especially with new guys getting the feel for certain practice scenarios. Like Cobb. It wouldn’t hurt to build a relationship with Rodgers and get down his breaks and cuts before they need to in practice. Lots of QB/WR tandems practice outside their required training to become almost perfect.

I think Manning used to (or still does) do that with some of his receivers outside of practices.

by PhoenicianPakFan on May 11, 2011 9:37 PM CDT up reply actions

Manning used to

but now he’s too busy filming commercials to do anything else but eat, sleep, and piss.

Like I said

It works between QB and WR, but nothing much.

But when you take into account the ammount of injury this club usually has, and that they spent 1 month more working than everybody else, it could, very well, hurt. Literally.

"IT IS TIME"

by PackersRS on May 12, 2011 2:44 PM CDT up reply actions

That would be the biggest drawback....

we haven’t seen it yet with these teams practicing but once a star goes down during one of these player practices….. everyone will shut them down.

by PhoenicianPakFan on May 12, 2011 2:56 PM CDT up reply actions

It's kind of a catch 22

If the players are working hard enough for these practices to be valid, they risk an injury.

If they work out not intensely enough, so that they avoid injury, the practice doesn’t serve any purpose.

"IT IS TIME"

by PackersRS on May 12, 2011 3:33 PM CDT up reply actions

I think it was Hawk that made the point

If a player gets injured in these practices, it’s equivalent to a player getting hurt playing a different sport. Any marginal players would be stupid to practice when they could get injured and subsequently cut by their team.

Right now, there is only so much you can do. The almost universal word from players around the league is that these workouts are a waste right now.

I got no problem at all with no player organized workouts for the Packers going on right now, they earned their rest and will be better for it i think.

As for the workouts around the league though, I dont understand why these millionaires are not HIRING COACHES THAT ARE NOT PART OF THE NFL to organize it. Go and hire Jon Gruden or something! I mean yes, they cant teach you the playbook but organizing these activities is something that they all really know what to do. At this point it would be about focusing on techniques anyway, why not hire Gruden or Parcells or anybody else that had coached in the NFL but isnt on anybody’s payroll currently to coach you on the general points that are what you would be doing right now anyway!

hire Jon Gruden or something

Thats actually a really good idea. The former coaches might not be interested to do that to the teams that might one day be interested in hiring them again tho…. Good idea tho, and I’m sure some of the former coaches would do it.

Meh...

I think this stigma is dead along with the “I don’t want to be a player rep because of what the team might do to me” thinkg.

They want to win, and will hire anyone that can.

by PhoenicianPakFan on May 11, 2011 12:36 AM CDT up reply actions

Great thought…although who are these people they are going to hire?

-I am sure there is some concern about what kind of information these extra “coaches” would have or would be given. Confidentiality.

- There is also the aspect of if they were good enough to be coaching pro players, wouldn’t they be doing it?

- There is also the final aspect of knowing the system. They can’t just know football but they have to understand the system the team is coaching.

I like the idea in theory but I am guessing its more complicated than that.

As long as they are in the same area they would be able to do their regular jobs and work with the players.

A lot of the techniques that the players have to play with are universal. Its pretty much just having somebody thats job is to specifically organize the activities, even a high school coach would be able to come in and do that as long as they know football. A lot of good coaches that are not in the NFL anymore (or ever at that matter) were not able to hack it in the NFL due to their systems, not to not knowing techniques and universal procedures. They would at the very least still know how to teach the fundamentals. Im sure your right it is more complicated than just hiring them, but i would still think it would be better than having Drew Brees running it. They would not be able to involve the playbook AT ALL but at this point the playbook wouldnt be involved yet if mini camps had started in general.

really the coaches should get somebody that they know to "offer" their services to organize the activities.

That way the coach would have given the OK to the players on the guy being ok to work with. I just feel like at least have some sort of strength and conditioning coach there to help insure that they dont get hurt. I like that the Packers are not working out on their own for that reason, what if they get hurt? the owners would be able to not pay them and say that it was the same as if they got hurt playing a pick up basketball game like a certain baseball player that finally got back and struck out 9 in 6 innings for his first win as a Brewer!

I like this idea.

However, I think these non-Packer coaches would have to volunteer to do it; otherwise, if the Packers hire them, they’d be associated w/ the team and therefore not allowed to have contact with the players.

Kinda like hiring a trainer to help them get in shape for the season. Except that they could do drill work and technique work and things like that.

good in theory, not sure the players would actually DO it though. Not sure the owners would want to do anything to help the players at this point either though.

Packers Don’t Need No Stinkin’ Organized Workout!
AJ Hawk talks about how the organized workouts aren’t really beneficial to the players’ skills at all, that it is more of a get-together for teammates who are friends. The most they do is simple running drills (without pushing themselves too hard) and 7-on-7 2-hand touch scrimmages. The player organized workouts are only smart for guys like Sanchez and Romo who have been questioned about their leadership.

don’t think its a troll. I actually wondered this myself when the other team’s players started working together. Its getting about that time where, if they felt it was beneficial, then they could start doing it. Not sure it would hurt anything, and might make the fans happy…..don’t really know how much it helps, but at least it allows them to keep each other in check a bit.

If it’s not then I apologize. But everything from the all lower case, to the title, to the comment that “even Tony Romo” is organizing workouts makes it sound like either another team’s fan or someone who has to find every little thing wrong with ARodg (i.e. the last remaining Brett Favre fan)
