NFL Network's "Top 100 Players of 2011" Thread #4

Due to the Comments closing on the last thread, I have copy/pasted the list and posted it here. It is complete.

For those of you who are priveleged enough to have NFL Network, I'm sure you are aware of the series they have running called the "Top 100." They previously ranked the top 100 players of all time, and now they are ranking the top 100 active players for the 2010-2011 season. This list is actually voted on by current NFL players, not analysts and writers like many other ranking shows. I thought I'd create this FanPost as an open thread for debate and discussion about the list. Read the list, and offer your opinions. Who is on here that shouldn't be? Who is too low?

The appearance of this

So if I remember this weekend, I will put the top 10 here instead of starting a new thread.

Numbers 11-20

Filled with some high-quality players. It makes it hard to argue with those rankings. I think Vick might be a little high, but he’s such a dynamic player that it’d be just as easy to argue that he’s too low.

Yeah, he's a tough one.

For much of the season he completely dominated. For other parts… not as much. His raw talent alone gets him into the top 20, but his limitations keep him from the truly elite.

Ridiculously high.

Or #1. It really wouldn’t surprise me to see Ty Law 2.0 really high on the list.

How well did he really play last year?

Sure, he was ridiculous 2 years ago. But with the hod out and the injuries last year, I don’t remember him having such a spectacular season.

Neither do I.

This list is pretty heavily influenced by hype. Revis had an amazing 2009, but his 2010 season was fairly unspectacular. If NFL officials ever got their heads on straight, they might call him for mugging the receiver before the catch. Instead, he gets away with DPI and Illegal Contact (the calls that make your head spin when Tramon Williams gets called for them).

Revis is like the LeBron James of CBs. He’s an amazing talent, but the crap he gets away with is sickening.

Because LeBron only plays for 1 team.

Kobe plays for another, and after that? 28 teams free of douches. Miami absorbed them like a sponge.

I am reading this thread to see what people are saying about the worthless

Why not?

Have you looked at the season he had last year???? I implore you to click this link and take a look:
http://www.nfl.com/player/peytonmanning/2501863/careerstats?id=MAN515097

Granted his QB rating was slightly down from his best years but DUDE, the guy was missing his #2 WR and #1 TE for most of the year. The Oline is patchwork and that is being nice. He had virtually no running game, yet he put up 4700 yards and 33 tds! That is RIDICULOUS! I’d take him over everyone out there…well almost everyone.

He’s only one year older than Brady and has a history of his team needing everything he has to win (whereas Brady seems to have a little more support around him…ie a great D). I think Manning is rightly located in this vote.

here’s the thing. Would you take his awful performances against San Diego, New England, and Dallas (Seriously, DALLAS!)?

Definitely. Just because Dallas under performed doesn’t mean they didn’t have a talented team (they most certainly did). I didn’t see the SD game but I remember the NE game, and I certainly wouldn’t call his performance “awful” in that one. He was the only reason the Colts were even in the game. In what universe is throwing 400 yards and completing well over 70% of your passes not good? That was a crappy way for the Colts to lose too. Though I suppose it was pretty fitting for his OL to let a guy through to disrupt his throw. It wasn’t like that was something that he didn’t put up with all year.

It's not good

when you throw three picks, all of which were somewhat preventable, including the moonball pick to basically seal the game.

Manning statistically was incredible despite all the personnel losses, but at the end of the day, he contributed massively to three games that the Colts could and should have won (Dallas in OT, New England, and Philadelphia). The first Jacksonville game was fluky as any game I’ve ever seen; Indianapolis just got the short end of a tossup game.

The moonball resulted because one of the Patriots hit his arm as he was throwing. I can’t remember who that throw was intended for but they were actually open.

Not only was he statistically incredible, he somehow managed to put that team on his back and lead them to the playoffs. You stick any other QB on that team, and they don’t make it. Period. And they probably don’t have anymore than 6, maybe 7 wins. Last year was what, the first time in like 5 or 6 years that Manning’s Colts didn’t win 12 games or more right?
