Around The NFC North: Last Week In Minnesota
UPDATE: Due to a problem with the original post, which is below the jump, I've re-written the post above and closed the comments.
Metrodome construction nearing end | National Football Post. Yep, they've almost got the old dome back together again. They won't be replacing the artificial surface, so I wonder how that's going to play next season.
Antoine Winfield: NFL's Most Complete Corner | ProFootballFocus.com. I've always thought highly of Antoine Winfield. He's missed some games due to injuries in 2007 and 2009, but he's remained pretty healthy throughout his career, and certainly been one of the better unrestricted free agent signings that I can think of.
Vikings stadium remains stuck behind stalled budget talks | ProFootballTalk. Their new stadium is caught up in the ongoing stalemate in Minnesota.
The Metrodome Will Soon Be Raising The Roof - Daily Norseman. Yep, they've almost got the old dome back together again. They won't be replacing the artificial surface, so I wonder how that's going to play next season.
The Best Cornerback In The NFL Plays For The Minnesota Vikings - Daily Norseman. I've always thought highly of Antoine Winfield. He's missed some games due to injuries in 2007 and 2009, but he's remained pretty healthy throughout his career, and certainly been one of the better unrestricted free agent signings that I can think of.
A Special Session For The Stadium Bill...In September? - Daily Norseman. Their new stadium is caught up in the ongoing stalemate in Minnesota.
No. Just. . .No. - Daily Norseman. Even if some columnists speculate about the return of Brett Favre, it looks like most Viking fans have moved on already.

Just say no, Minnesota.
It’s SO not worth it.

Oh, Gates, you toolbag.
Although we as Viking fans appreciate what #4 did for us during the time was here. . .in direct contrast to the ungrateful fans of his previous employers…
I don’t suppose he’d know WHY QB4’s previous employers hate his guts…

How is this jackass still a mod?
Just compare Brandon of APC (a pro) to this fanboy, Gates, and you see he has no business having ANY kind of power on SBNation.

Now now, take it easy....
obviously there is a difference between us and them. They had 16 yrs of hating him, then magically overnight loving him for 2 yrs and now he is in their (some of the fans) Top Vikings to Ever Play list simply for getting them to a NFCC game (to be fair, that game is like their Super Bowl since they never go any farther). We had him for 16 yrs and watching him take the organization hostage while not winning anything for over a decade, then had another young QB come in and win another SB.
Obviously when you are a fan of a historic, winning franchise you have a real set of standards.

Amusing
He defended himself over on the Norseman site to ensure that folks would have his back. His complaint being that he can’t put into words why Packer fans have had a hard time dealing with Favre over the last couple years.
…I can’t seem to do so without using some combination of the words "ungrateful," "whining," "crybaby," and "douchebag."
I’m confident that those terms could be thrown at a fan of any rival team, but his journalistic integrity and general use of hyperbole somehow blocked the most important adjective associated with the Packers and their fans: “Super Bowl Champions.”

The ironic thing is that...
the only one who seemed ungrateful was Favre. He made 100 million dollars doing what he loved to do for this team and yet couldn’t follow the rules that everyone else had to follow, and when asked to, threw a tantrum and ran to a rival to “stick it to” the team that made him.

Minnesota giving Favre a multi-million contract for this past year was comedy gold.
Charles Barkley knows a TURRIBLE deal when he sees one…

I have a GREAT reason why no one talks about Antoine Winfield
Outside of this website, you don’t hear it very often at all. Why? Well, outside of the team he suits up for and the uniform he wears on Sundays, there really doesn’t appear to be a good reason. At least, I certainly can’t seem to find one.
Because, simply, no one gives a DAMN about the vikings
aaron rodgers gets 2 concussions in a season and wins superbowl mvp...jay cutler goes down in the biggest game of his career with menstrual cramps, than fakes an injury and an MRI... Need I say any more?

No one cares about crappy Minnesota teams.
That is, no one outside of Minnesota.

I live in Minnesota
No one here cares either (until there is a chance of a playoff berth, of course).
Antoine Winfield
Winfield is a good CB, but he’s not shutdown, elite, or the best by any regard. You pretty much summed it up well, he gets his hype from his fans, but outside of Minnesota, he simply isn’t feared as much as Tramon, Woodson, Asomugha, and Revis. He’s still a good CB though and is a heck of a tackler.
I ran out of quotes.....
How can Winfield be the leagues best when he's not even the best in the division?
Oh, it was an article written by Gates…Can I assume before reading that he makes a comment about how nobody gives any Viking player credit?
it was an article written by Gates
You mean that idiot is still writing articles, much less commenting? Thats funny!!! Gates is a complete FOOL!
You've been Stroh'd™!!!

What are you talking about? He runs the best Vikings site on the internet.
He brings nothing but fair, unbiased opinions and interesting vie……Ok, I’m sorry I couldn’t keep that up any longer. That guy and his site are a joke, Ted Glover should be running it.

Yeah...
to me, on these sites, comments are fair game. We all take cheap shots at each other’s teams and so be it. It makes it fun. But I generally hold the authors to a little higher standards. I don’t really think authors should be taking shots at other teams, at least not in their articles. Those articles are put on the front page of SB Nation and are read by everyone. It just looks unprofessional. Brandon certainly doesn’t do it, and the Lions and even Bears authors (from what I’ve read there) don’t do it. Nor have I really seen that kind of thing from other team’s authors in other divisions either, though I haven’t been around those sites much.
It’s his site and he can write whatever he wants, but for claiming to be the best Vikings site around, those little things make him look a little immature (like the rest of us that comment).
